<title><![CDATA[Hyperwords - a choragraphical operation]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[Too often searching the web or browsing the internet&#8211;a gamed based in words, words as the conn]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal">Too often searching the web or browsing the internet--a gamed based in words, words as the connectors ( i.e., keywords)--we work under the illusion that we can link, look, or "go" anywhere.  We generally don't question, don't critically investigate this illusory freedom (Sean Williams has done work in this area).  Instead, we move through the www as if we were in control of the navigation, of the connection, the links we make.  While there are certain freedoms we exercise in online environments, and those freedoms are noticeably greater than in the literate apparatus (the linearity of text), we still do not make moves as "freely" as we would believe.  In truth, hyperlinks are done by web authors--they/we determine what you can (and cannot) link to from any given page they/we have created.  Search engines work based on algorithms determined by programmers.  Web connectivity, as we traditionally approach it, only occurs on pre-set lines, even if very fluid lines; connections established by authors, not users.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We might look at a site like StumbleUpon as starting to change this relationship, but it doesn't push the bar far enough.  Enter Frode Hegland's <em>Hyperwords</em>.  This add-on to your (firefox) browser, "makes every single word or phrase on a [web] page into a hyperlink—not just those chosen by a website’s authors" (from <a href="http://www.economist.com/" target="_blank"><em>The Economist</em></a>, click <a href="http://www.economist.com/printedition/displayStory.cfm?Story_ID=11482527" target="_blank">here</a> for full article).  It makes browsing choragraphical, perhaps even paralogical, and it subverts the dominant hierachy of the web browser's relationship to web author.  Check out the video below to see some of the potentialities involved with <em>Hyperwords</em>.</p>

<description><![CDATA[As part of the invention of word metaphysics, Aristotle appropriated the Greek spatial concept ]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>As part of the invention of word metaphysics, Aristotle appropriated the Greek spatial concept "topos" for use as a rhetorical structure.  The commonplace method for storing and retrieving textual information developed by means of "topics."  Electrate rhetoric frames the literate topical system with another Greek category of space, chora (region).  The invention of a choral operation for storing and retrieving data is in progress (here).  A relay for this invention is the <em>I Ching</em>, the Chinese oracle known as the<em> Book of Changes</em>, which is the most highly evolved demonstration of how an image metaphysics functions.  The heuretic rule is not to copy the I Ching, but to discover an equivalent for our own apparatus.</p>

<p>The I Ching is a kind of collective memory palace.  The ground of "places" of memory is a generic "Mountain-Water" (landscape), abstracted into eight features (expressed in trigrams of open or closed lines) -- Heaven, Thunder, Water, Mountain, Earth, Wind, Sun, Lake (the names of the features vary).</p>

<p>The Landscape is in motion, passing through seasonal time.  The time-space of the seasons serves as interface for a collection of other cultural and natural systems, including the human body, family kinship, the political system, the historical dynasties, along with a range of qualities of experience.  These discourses in turn are coordinated with the worldview of the civilization, emblematized in the <em>Tai Chi</em>, manifested as Yin and Yang, the interacting forces of the universe whose waxing and waning is the motor of all events and relationships.  To consult the oracle (by flipping the coins for example) is to receive a snapshot of the propensity of things in one's situation at that moment:  <strong>the tendency or direction of energies, the attractors at work</strong>. The final layer interfaced with the landscape is a syncretic correlation with the wisdom traditions of China -- Taoist, Confucian, Buddhist.</p>
<p>Leibniz, <a href="http://www.editorialsunya.com/leibnize.html">learning of the I Ching</a> from some Jesuit friends, praised the Chinese for having developed a knowledge of practical reason (relevant to ethics and politics) that exceeded anything to be found in the West.  The oracle is<strong> a decision engine, connecting individuals and their quotidian problems with the collective learning of the civilization</strong>, as gathered by the sages over hundreds of years.  The heuretic principle is "to seek what they sought" -- to find for our apparatus a holistic imaging system supporting decision-making, the deliberative reason of an Internet public sphere.  Operation Superfund is a prototype for the kind of observational experiment needed to do the work of the sages for our own epoch.  The position of sage now is distributed, a wiki-sagacity.</p>

Permeability denotes the state in which the categorical distinction between the city, body politics, and the text written on that body, dissolv<strong>e</strong>. On this body, one can "read what was never written," as the German writer Hugo von Hoffmannsthal once said. <strong>Porosity is the image of this (un)written text which defines the physical and political (pre)modernity of Beirut</strong>; it constitutes a continuum in the shifting identity of the city and its social body. <p>We are using the analogy of how the Greeks invented Philosophy (literate metaphysics) out of spoken Greek in the context of alphabetic writing, in order to invent an image metaphysics out of filmic media (the movies as General Cultural Interface).</p>
<p>Relay:  <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2006/07/23/movies/23roht.html?n=Top/Reference/Times%20Topics/People/R/Rohter,%20Larry"><em>House of Sand</em></a>, directed by Andrucha Waddinton.  The interest of this example is that the film originated in <strong>a single snapshot of an elderly woman standing in the doorway of a flimsy hut surrounded by dunes</strong>, taken in the arid and poverty-stricken northeast of Brazil.  The image evoked for the producer and filmmaker the whole experience and history of that region.  Thus it recommends itself as a relay for understanding <strong>choral images</strong>.  Waddington unfolded the snapshot into a narrative, demonstrating how a site implies a diegesis (a "world").  The Popcycle of discourses is active in this diegesis.</p>

<p>1) The story for the site emerged as a hybrid, sparked by a dream, in which Waddinton mixed parts of his memories of the Japanese film <em>Woman in the Dunes</em>, with the information about the Brazilian region (Entertainment Discourse).</p>
<p>2) The subplot of a visit of scientists to the area was based on an actual expedition in 1919 by a group that took astronomic measurements to prove Einstein's theory of relativity (History Discourse).</p>
<p>3) The other relief from the women's isolation are the neighboring residents of a quilombo community of runaway slaves (Public Policy disaster).</p>
<p>4) The theme of the film -- the indifference of Nature to human intentions -- expresses a feeling, an attitude, a mood experienced through this place (Expression).</p>

<p class="western" style="margin-bottom:0;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size:small;">Sentei logo atrás de Marli, uma capixaba de 1,87mts, que costumava usar calças de cós baixo. Um desenho a la Yakusa aguçava o meu pescoço para frente.</span></span></p>
<p class="western" style="margin-bottom:0;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman, serif;"><span style="font-size:small;">Depois da serpente que descia não sei para onde, tomei contato imediato com um fiapo vermelho que acompanhava, um pouquinho mais para cima, o risco final do jeans. </span></span></p>

Mulheres, transex e homens com gostos duvidosos costumam ver em Wando o pólo oposto, aquele que atrai como um imã aquilo que está diametralmente oposto a você. Mágico.</span></span></p>

"Não haverá um único dia na minha vida em que não estarei pensando sobre a Microsoft, sobre as grandes coisas que estamos fazendo e que desejamos fazer", afirmou Gates, que enxugou algumas lágrimas quando um grupo de funcionários se levantou para aplaudi-lo de pé.</p>
<p>Em um evento com funcionários da Microsoft realizado na sede da empresa, em Redmond, Gates subiu ao palco ao lado do executivo-chefe da empresa, Steve Ballmer.</p>
<p>Ballmer, um colega da Universidade Harvard que foi trabalhar na Microsoft à convite de Gates, ficou emocionado ao descrever o impacto de Gates sobre a empresa e sobre a sociedade em geral. "Não há uma forma de agradecer ao Bill. O Bill é o fundador. O Bill é o líder', afirmou Ballmer. 'Este é o bebê do Bill."</p>
<p>Ballmer afirmou que pensou em abandonar o emprego um mês depois de ter ingressado na Microsoft. Gates pediu veementemente que ele ficasse. "Foi isto o que o Bill me disse: 'Você não está entendendo. Você não está entendendo. Vamos colocar um computador sobre todas as mesas e em todos os lares", afirmou Ballmer.</p>
<p>Gates deixa toda uma vida dedicada ao desenvolvimento de software e concentrará suas energias em promover a descoberta de novas vacinas ou o financiamento de projetos em países em desenvolvimento.</p>
<p>A Microsoft continuará sob o comando do executivo-chefe, Steve Ballmer, do chefe de estratégia e pesquisa, Craig Mundie, e do chefe para arquitetura de softwares, Ray Ozzie. Em junho de 2006, Ozzie já havia assumido o posto de Gates como responsável pela arquitetura de software da Microsoft.</p>
<p>Como é o maior acionista da Microsoft, Gates continuará a ser o presidente do conselho da empresa e a trabalhar em alguns projetos especiais de tecnologia. A participação de 8,7% que ele detém na companhia vale cerca de US$ 23 bilhões.</p>
<p>Ballmer e a direção da Microsoft, no entanto, terão de enfrentar os novos desafios da companhia que viu cair seu lucro no último trimestre em 11% e perdeu a batalha pelo controle do mercado de buscadores da internet para o Google, especialmente após seu fracasso em adquirir a Yahoo!.</p>
<p>As inúmeras críticas recebidas por seu último sistema operacional, o Windows Vista, com problemas de compatibilidade com outros programas e periféricos, não impediu que sua comercialização vingasse, já existindo mais de 140 milhões de variações no mundo todo.</p>
<p>Muitos usuários e empresas continuam, no entanto, ligados ao seu antecessor Windows XP, que tem seus dias contados. Entretanto, aumenta a popularidade dos sistemas operacionais gratuitos como o Linux e cresce a fração do mercado dos dispositivos da Apple, concorrente da Microsoft que utiliza programas próprios.</p>
<p>Gates sai justamente quanto é considerado o terceiro homem mais rico do mundo, com uma fortuna que atinge US$ 58 bilhões, segundo a revista "Forbes".</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><em>Trouble</em> is an attractor forming Region (chora), as a relationship with an egent (discovering my egency, my electrate identity).   Which one  calls  (for example, a Superfund site)?  It started way back, a long time before me.  The approach of arsenic toward the acquifer supplying the drinking water for my community affects not just me:  it is the Plague.  Event and its reach (it calls).  It is happening (a certain temporality).</p>
<p>What does wisdom advise (to collect and organize a wisdom for now is our purpose, pedagogy for the distributed sage)?  In the bygone one way lived hidden, and became a target of Plutarch's curse:  <em>There is in truth but one penalty for those who have lived ill: obscurity, oblivion, and utter effacement, which carries them off from Lethe to the joyless river and plunges them into a bottomless and yawning ocean, an ocean that sucks into one abyss all failure to serve or to take action and all that is inglorious and unknown</em> (Plutarch, <em>Moralia</em>).</p>

<p>A situation becomes region through measure.  <a title="Oblio Genre" href="http://www.nwe.ufl.edu/~gulmer/disseminar/sumbebekos1.html">Oblio</a> writes the measure of measure, since what remains to be learned about electracy is a path of movement through the dataverse.  What measure organizes the ratios, proportions, functions of relationship, allowing thought to move from the given to the unknown, circumspectly?  Conduction (the fourth inference).   The practice of reflective judgment must be updated, replacing analogy with digilogy (analogue digital).   The ratio jumps, if still guided by beauty.  The sublime conditions of modernity overwhelmed Western beauty (the classical proportions of the Renaissace), but did not necessarily exceed the range of beauty itself.  The vanguard arts experimented with new functions to replace ratio, but never forget the multi-cultural, syncretic character of those experiments (importing from every non-European tradition its alternative experience of beauty).</p>

<p>This hospital where in May doctors provided me with a total hip replacement is a place from which to learn region (chora).  If there was any doubt about the wisdom of the decision to have surgery, this post from Lindsey put them to rest.  Her Yoga instructor  “gave the example of those swamis who have spent so much time in their lives in the lotus pose that they destroy their hips and can't walk anymore. These swamis are so revered for their transcendence of practical necessities (such as being able to walk) that on holidays, their students celebrate them by carting them around like statues. At the end of the celebrations, they are packed up and put in their caves for the rest of the year.”  She warned me not to count on my students to be so devoted.</p>
<p>A hospital in its institutional form is a scene of constant measurement.  The staff hierarchy extends from the Orthopedic surgeon (Peter Gearen) to the orderly who empties the trash basket in my room at midnight.   During my stay (May 22-25) the gossip featured the firing of the Dean (Dr. Kone) for having admitted a politically connected young man without the approval of the admissions committee.   Each patient is a set of vital signs continuously monitored.  My condition was assessed by these human norms, embodied in the organs and their operations (the interactive systems of blood, air, bowels, bones, nerves).  What is pain?  One must assign it a number every few hours, 0 – 10 (from none to unbearable).  How quickly the customs of modesty, privacy, status give way to material access to the organism.   The other FAQ was:  when was your last bowel movement?  You can’t go home until the next one.</p>
<p>This material institution is the vehicle for hospital as tenor, as figure, as in Baudelaire’s “Anywhere out of this world.”   “This life is a hospital where every patient is possessed with the desire to change beds; one man would like to suffer in front of the stove, and another believes that he would recover his health beside the window.”  Here is the register of the image category that is to electracy what concept is to literacy.   The material hospital manifests the achievements of literate metaphysics:  the mastery of the material literal order.   Electracy is to the figurative what literacy is to the literal world.  If this oblio were a remake of Baudelaire’s poem, the narrator’s conversation with his soul would be different.  Baudelaire’s soul fails to respond to any of the proposals of  travel to an exotic place that might please it, finally crying out “anywhere, so long as it is not in this world.”  My soul’s nature, rather, is stodgy, rooted in its locale, uninterested in adventures or elsewheres, to the point that the narrator must chastise it for failing to use its potential for movement.  It might as well be in the body of a Swami.</p>

<p>Yet I have journeyed from time to time, even if after each sally, during the return, I wondered what had been accomplished.  Most recently there was the consultation in Washington, D. C.  In the limo on the way to Reagan National at dawn the movement of the car along the curve of the highway positioned us to receive full in the eyes unexpectedly the flash of the rising sun reflected in the glass facades of the high-rises along the river.  This flare I recognized at once as an indication, a graphic of illumination (afterwards, in retrospect).  It just reminds us that there is a gateway, perhaps as the Tao says, a door or window to the collective subtlety.  This register beyond language, formless, has always been the target of art, such as Czeslaw Milosz’s Unattainable Earth. His method for approaching the inexpressible sense of being was to collect his own writings together with whatever else he experienced during a certain period (1981-84).   “He lived among people, was feeling, thinking, getting acquainted with others’ thoughts, and tried to capture the surrounding world by any means including the act of the poem, but not only.  In everything he wrote then the same striving and the same tone could be discerned, as we move in our life through successive renewals and incarnations, each of which has its own tone.  Why then separate what is unified in time?” (Milosz).</p>
<p>What is the gate, according to the Tao?  It is the energy that is life, in every dimension and scale, whose vital signs may not be recorded by putting one’s finger into a machine.  And yet it is the basis for Chinese medicine.  That breakfast tray, when the green ceramic cover in the style of the hospital’s crockery is lifted, the hot pancakes produce a steam in the chill of the cold room.  The steam from boiling rice gives the character for ch’i (chee), which is the name of this energy or spirit (the original character combined the signs of sun and fire).  Aristotle coined “entelechy” to describe this force, and the observation evolved through the Western tradition in every attempt to name a life essence:  daimon,  genius, monad, conatus, dasein, duende.   Milosz cites D. H. Lawrence, to say that if the pancakes are not eaten with all the senses awake, if they are just hogged down, that is “the feeding of corpses.”  Where in this scene is the indication of duende (Lorca), beyond my corpse hunger?  The flare of the window on the way to Reagan National was a clue.</p>
<p>The staff were curious about the young man in green scrubs who kept returning to my room at all hours, staying sometimes for an hour or two at time.  It was not a specialist treating me, I explained, but my son, Tyson, who is a Resident at Shands.  He was there when the physical therapist came the first time to get me out of bed, to introduce me to my walker, and take me out for my first stroll.  Outside the door of my room, she pointed to the window at the other end of the corridor.  That window was the destination of my roundtrip.  Ty accompanied me as I inched along, and a memory occurred to us simultancously, of a similar journey, roles reversed, when he was fourteen, recovering from abdominal surgery, taking his first walk with my assistance.  His troubles of those years became the motivation for his career path.</p>
<p>When we discussed this shared memory later I thought of the puzzle once discussed by Koestler, about how to locate the exact place of intersection on a path traversed by a Monk climbing a mountain one day and returning the next.<br />
Discussions of this puzzle in cognitive theory provide a formal structure in which to record the measure we seek.  “The solution preferred by Fauconnier and Turner is to imagine the monk walking both up and down on the same day, a scenario constructed by taking elements of two separate input spaces, one for the monk walking up the mountain on one day and one for the monk walking down the mountain on a different day, and blending them into a single image (blended space).  A generic space, containing everything the two input spaces have in common (the monk, the mountain path, and a day beginning at dawn and ending at sunset), is required to support the blend.  In the blend, the mountain slope and the two separate days are fused into a single mountain slope and a single day, but the two monk images cannot be fused, because they move in opposite directions, so they map into the fourth, blended space, as two separate individuals” (L. David Ritchie, “Lost in Conceptual Space: Metaphors of Conceptual Integration”)</p>
<p>Chora may be composed as a blended space.  Here is a dialogical image, blending past and present, two shufflings along a hospital corridor, each setting a goal of the window illuminated with light of the outdoors, even if that view is otherwise obscured by frosted glass or hanging blinds.  One helps the other, repaid in kind.  This blend fuses more than two space-time incidents, but introduces the coherence of a vortex into the disparate chaos of the institution.  It is not a matter of yards or meters, yet fully a measure.  The distance from room 18 to the window and back, along the corridor busy with the traffic of care and healing, of pain and Code Blue, is the measure of this time-space region. Window light.  Life is a hospital, in which we help each other to the bathroom.  Why?  This question stumps only the corpse.  Corridor window @ Shands hospital:  the @ marks the object (a), the expressible standing in for the inexpressible.  In electracy we are learning to take the measure of this unattainable earth, and to apply this measure to the play of well-being as a political force.  In the electrate apparatus there is a coming institution dwelling anywhere out of this world.</p>

Mal se aguentava em pé, chegou mesmo quase a cair em palco! Tiveram que a ir ajudar... já para não falar que não se percebia metade das coisas que dizia, pois tinha a língua enrolada e algumas letras tiveram que ser improvisadas.<br />
Chegou mesmo a chorar no palco, tal era o estado alcoolizado em que se encontrava.<br />
Enfim... muitos compraram o bilhete pela existência do nome dela no cartaz e foi a desilusão total... corpo presente apenas....<br />
Grande mérito para a banda.. que entreteu o pessoal todo e ajudou várias vezes.</p>

<title><![CDATA[Illusions of Reform and the Need for Integrated Governance]]></title>

<description><![CDATA[Over the past week or so, I’ve had the privilege to get some high level access to some of the lead]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Over the past week or so, I’ve had the privilege to get some high level access to some of the leading academics and government officials in Chinese environmental policy and law here in Beijing.<span>  </span>I was an observer at a private high-level roundtable discussion on Chinese environmental governance held at Tsinghua University this past Sunday [<em>Note: due to the non-public nature of the event, I do not refer to members’ names below</em>].<span>  </span></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Times New Roman;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Times New Roman;">One of the first insights I gained was the skepticism a few members of the room expressed about the recent <a href="http://greenleapforward.com/2008/03/12/bureaucratic-streamlining-and-rule-of-law/" target="_blank">ministerial elevation</a> of the State Environmental Protection Agency to the new Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP).<span>  </span>While it is true that the MEP now gets a voting seat on the important and powerful State Council, decisions on the State Council, it was noted, are in practice made by consensus.<span>  </span>Not only is it unlikely that manpower at the MEP will be increased as I had hoped in my earlier post, but the MEP is still grappling with fundamental questions about internal structure (for example, the relationship among the MEP in Beijing, regional environmental supervision centers and local environmental protection bureaus)<span>  </span>and its relationship with respect to other ministries.<span>  </span>One member charged that the current ministerial reforms were piecemeal should urgently be replaced with an overall farsighted blueprint.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Times New Roman;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><strong><span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">The need for an integrated approach to government</span></span></strong></p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><strong><span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;"><img class="alignright" style="float:right;" src="http://www.softwaremag.com/archive/2001-08/images/E-BusIntegration.jpeg" alt="" width="350" height="311" /></span></span></strong></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">Perhaps the most striking comment was one made by a US law professor, and seconded by a senior policy advocate from a clean energy think tank.<span>  </span>The former suggested that the fourth generation of environmental regulation (the first three being “nuisance law” approaches, command-and-control regulation, market-based tools, in that order) is integrating environmental policy and planning functions with other governmental functions, such as finance, construction and transportation.<span>  </span>The latter took the idea one step further, saying that China has every incentive to accelerate this so called “fourth generation” approach to “first generation”—the phenomenal growth of China’s economy necessitates it.<span>  </span></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Times New Roman;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">China is the fastest growing economy in the world, and coupled with its absolute size, its global impact is nothing short of profound; I have already previously observed that China accounts for around half of the world’s construction activities.<span>  </span>In terms of law and policy reform, China is trying to accomplish in a decade or two what the US has taken more than a century to achieve—deregulating state companies, establishing rule of law, creating well functioning capital markets, introducing laws relating to intellectual property protection, anti-monopoly and bankruptcy, and even experimentations with democracy at local levels.<span>  </span>It is shock-therapy of a different sort and scale, driven by a combination of desire and necessity to integrate with a globalized market moving at internet-speed.</span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Times New Roman;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">But if China adopts merely a piece-meal approach to environmental considerations, as many critics charge, the time will soon come where a prioritization of environmental concerns would be too little too late.<span>  </span>We are starting to see hints of integrated environmental governance in China, as evidenced by the <a href="http://greenleapforward.com/2008/03/11/sepa-unleashes-green-whirlwinds/" target="_blank">Green Whirlwinds</a>, which integrate environmental criteria into the regulation of the capital markets, credit, insurance and trade sectors.<span>  </span>Most pressing is the integrated regulation of heavy industry (power production, cement, steel, etc.) and what better lever point is there than scrutinizing the <a href="http://greenleapforward.com/2008/04/08/china%e2%80%99s-construction-boomdoom/" target="_blank">construction industry</a>?<span>  </span>Buildings and their fixtures are made of or consume just about every industrial resource available (cement, brick, glass, steel, plastics, water, electricity).<span>  </span></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Times New Roman;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size:12pt;">But even the <a href="http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2008-02/26/content_7674368.htm" target="_blank">greening of construction</a> alone is insufficient.<span>  </span></span>Discrete buildings are part of an integrated whole.<span>  </span>Integrated urban and transportation planning would take into account efficient and ecological planning of land use and transportation networks, which is why all levels of government, from the Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Transportation to municipal urban planning authorities, but to name a few, need to come to a shared vision of sustainability.<span>   </span>While the recent surge in renewable energy technology investments across the world, and <a href="http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/bizchina/2007-06/22/content_900323.htm" target="_blank">especially China</a></span><span style="font-size:small;"><span style="font-family:Times New Roman;">, is encouraging, less thought is being put into managing energy demand, and even less is being put to how to implement and deploy renewable energy systems on city-wide or regional scales.<span>  </span></span></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Times New Roman;"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin:0;"><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Times New Roman;">One group is taking an integrated approach, however, is <a href="http://www.chora.org/" target="_blank">Chora</a></span><span style="font-size:small;font-family:Times New Roman;">, a non-profit urban planning and architectural organization, which is undertaking a city-wide urban eco-planning initiative involving the deployment of a series of renewable energy projects.<span>  </span>An inside source has informed me that Xiamen City, in the southeastern province of Fujian, is a candidate city for their initiative.<span>  </span>I look forward to reporting more about Chora in the not too distant future.</span></p>

<p>O motivo? No último final de semana morreu a sua cadela Patchanga, que a apresentadora adotou ainda filhote, há 12 anos, e chamava carinhosamente de Tcham.</p>
<p>"Quem me acompanha sabe do meu carinho pelos meus bichinhos e principalmente pela Patchanga. É uma dor muito grande, afinal, foram 12 intensos anos. Dividimos grandes e bons momentos, mas agora ela está olhando e cuidando de mim em outro lugar", postou emocionada a apresentadora em sua página pessoal no "Bloglog".<img border="0" align="absBottom" width="20" src="http://mauricioaraya.files.wordpress.com/2007/12/aspas_2.jpg?w=20&#38;h=20&#38;h=20" height="20" /></p>

E chorando muito, afinal, os games produzidos pela empresa tiveram uma queda nas notas de avaliações, de 77 para 72 no ano passado inteiro no site <a target="_blank" href="http://www.metacritic.com">Metacritic.com</a>.</p>
<p align="justify"> O presidente da empresa, John Riccitiello, disse que isso é inaceitável, afinal as notas das avaliações dos jogos influenciam diretamente nas vendas.</p>
<p align="justify"> Mark Doyle, que fundou o Metacritic em 2001, disse que o site têm muita importância para a indústria dos games, já que muitos gamers baseiam-se muito nas notas dos sites expecializados para decidir se devem ou não comprar um jogo,  o que é diferente em outras mídias, como cinema por exemplo.</p>
<p align="justify">  Bom só o que resta agora é trabalhar para melhorar os games ou então chorar como Emo <strong>Eletronic Arts.</strong></p>
