Five years ago I was assigned to write an article about cell phone forensics. At that time, no one knew much about it; I remember panicking because I had found exactly one source for the article, and he wanted to remain anonymous. Then one of my editors recommended the International High Tech Crime Investigators Association. I just needed one more source.

I can't remember if my HTCIA source recommended the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force by name, or if I Googled "cell phone forensics" (or something similar) and arrived at the site that way. I believe what happened next was that I emailed their generic address and hoped like heck they would get back to me (cops not being the most trusting of media). One investigator did, and ended up being tremendously helpful, someone I got along with better than I'd expected.

I didn't expect him to keep in touch; only one other source has, and only because we reconnected on a site for crime fiction authors. (Ironically, I also interviewed her in 2003, for an article in the same issue. Her name's Felicia Donovan; go check out her website.) But he did email me again, several times in fact, soliciting article ideas. Over time our professional relationship developed, and from there became more of a professional friendship. And that's when we decided to collaborate.*

I don't know what the chances were that he versus another investigator would have answered my email. Maybe he was on "media duty" that week, or maybe he was considered the "go-to" guy for media in general. The point is, if you get along well enough with a source or another creative person, don't be afraid to follow up. Don't think there are "boundaries" you need to respect; if you think they're open to working more with you, ask. That's what I did this past week, when another source dropped a few hints about writing such that I asked if he wanted to collaborate. He does, and we're negotiating.

What's my point? I have "chance" on the brain because I'm about to take a big one-not just the collaboration, but kicking off my freelance career as a whole once more. I've always been a "go with the gut" person, and my business has for the most part been successful for it. Still, I keep wondering what on earth I'm doing. I still have one (rather needy) child at home, and even though most of the sources I plan to work with have no problem hearing his little voice in the background, it's a chance I've never taken before. But it, like the collaboration, feels like the right chance to take. And in my mind, that makes it worth the risk.

* I don't mind dropping Felicia's name, because she's trying to sell books. However, my collaborator is still active in law enforcement and not trying to draw attention to himself. You can probably figure it out if you read enough of my articles, especially in upcoming months, but really high-tech crime -- at least the way I write it -- isn't that terribly interesting!

We started off at Picasso in West Bend.  I would HIGHLY recommend this studio for weddings.  Not only are the hairstylists all brilliant, but the studio itself is just beautiful and a photographer's dream!

In the last few months, I’ve been working on more articles with him. A friendship has developed, and along with it, the beginnings of what we both think will be a strong long-term collaborative relationship. I get his ideas, the kind of information he's trying to impart to our audience. He gets the way I work, my values as a writer. He has talked me down from creative panic (over an unwieldy and unfocused article that simply needed a little direction) and backed up my instinct (to use a source’s information for sake of balance even if it challenged his relationship with his peers).

I am amazed that this has even happened. At the start of my career, one of my dreams was to find a collaborator. I remember talking about it on and off with various people with whom I seemed to hit it off, but nothing ever came to pass. Wrong time, wrong people, I guess. Ironically, although I have always gotten along great with this particular source, I never thought of him as a potential collaborator... until this past spring, when he mentioned the possibility of working together on a book.

So? Good news, right? For the most part, yes. And at the same time, not such good news for my fiction. Developing this relationship, trying to discern the next stage in my career, has taken up huge amounts of emotional energy. It’s all tremendously positive, so I don’t mind. Yet it’s left me with little interest in my short stories or novellas. I can’t think about characters when I have this new, real-life person I’m trying to get to know. I can’t think about plot when a new chapter in my own life is unfolding. I can’t think about setting when I may be moving.

Which creates another level of anxiety. Our house is still on the market. If we go and I freelance full-time, great—I can move forward with my plans. But if we stay and I’m home with small children once again—well, what does that mean? More time for fiction, perhaps.

But also putting off a collaboration I was really looking forward to. I am confident that my friend will remain, but anxious that the momentum will be lost, the timing that was last spring will not be the same this coming spring. One step at a time, my friend tells me, and I know he’s right. I feel such a strong desire not to give up what I’ve regained this year, and at the same time, maybe we do need another few months to get to know each other before we get going on new projects... especially one as big as a book.

Meanwhile, I’m not too stressed about the state of my fiction career. I miss it, but this relationship is rather intense (hey, it’s creative!) and I know it’s the “life experience” that counts toward producing strong fiction. So, until the next stage, I’m tentatively moving forward and going with the flow—the best way, I’ve found, to handle fiction... even when it isn’t happening quite the way I expected.

The police rent, view and copy the prosecuted footage on tape #80 and offer their investigation to the same U.S. Attorney's Office that prosecuted the footage, and they decline prosecution.  The tape is taken back to the video store for public distribution, along with two other tapes containing footage prosecuted as child porn by the same office.  Chief then claims there was no investigation by his department.  Adult porn or child pornography, what's the trewthe?

PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR:

The alleged minors are vintage performers Tove Jensen and Christa. Their prosecuted footage is the Color Climax produced "Teenage Tricks", and the Film Lab A/S produced "Group Sex" which are found on "Blue Vanities" (B.V.) tapes #80 and #82. (B.V. #80 contains the Caballero Control release of "Teenage Tricks", titled, "Patsy Learns To Play", Swedish Erotica #293).

This information is provided to the prosecution before and during trial.  Forced to acknowledge it was the same footage, the prosecutor alleges the defendant may have tampered with B.V. #80, and successfully objects to B.V. #82 on the grounds the government needed time to authenticate the tape. In post-conviction correspondence, the prosecutor refers to the producer/distributor of the B.V. tapes as "other traffickers" in child porn that have yet to be caught.

Several years later, a private investigator (P.I.) is hired to document the availability of the B.V. tapes in the same jurisdiction as the prosecution.  The P.I. discovers five local stores renting/selling the B.V. tapes, including one distributing B.V. tapes #80 and #82 just miles from the U.S. Attorney's Office that prosecuted the footage.

Eight months later, the P.I. confirms that B.V. tapes #80 and #82 are still available over the counter at the video store. The P.I. swears out an Affidavit documenting this information.  The Affidavit is hand delivered to the same federal prosecutor who claims; "every law enforcement officer, juror and judge who reviewed the tapes in question...have unanimously found that the tapes depict minors".

Eighteen months later, the P.I. visits the same video store, and confirms that B.V. tapes #80 and #82 are still available over the counter. Again the P.I. swears out an Affidavit, this time documenting that the tape covers description of the content is consistent with trial testimony and statements.

CITY INVESTIGATION:

A visit is made to the police department where the video store is located. A patrol officer and his Sargent are informed that footage prosecuted as child porn is available over the counter, on B.V. tapes #80 and #82, at a video store in their jurisdiction. They are further informed that a hired P.I. confirmed as much that morning. A copy of the case cover of B.V. #80 (Defense Exhibit 200) is offered to the officer, who makes a copy of it.

On a follow up visit two months later, the same officer claims the investigation is pending, but is upset that the issue was brought to their attention, claiming, "You're trying to get us involved in the federal government's problems".

Five months after the initial contact, the City Manager is now involved, and the Chief of Police is personally handling the investigation. In phone conversations, the Chief confirms that a Lieutenant bought a membership at the video store. The Lieutenant confirms that he rented B.V. tape #80, viewed and copied "Patsy Learns To Play", and is in contact with the U.S. Attorney's Office that prosecuted the footage.

An index card with rental dates and member IDs is left in B.V. #80's video case, indicating the Lieutenant rented the tape on January 9, 200x, using membership number 16751.

The department confirms that footage on B.V. #80 was part of a federal prosecution, presents their investigation and B.V. tape #80 to the U.S. Attorney's Office, and that office declines prosecution. This is confirmed in a telephone conversation with the Assistant U.S. Attorney, who stated, "I have declined prosecution, I'm not going to talk to ya about the details of our decision".

According to the U.S. Attorney Manual, the only official who can decline a child porn case is the U.S. Attorney in charge of that jurisdiction.

The city refuses to take the case any further, and the investigation is confirmed to be inactive by several sources. The police take B.V. tape #80 back to the video store and it's re-shelved for public distribution, along with Christa's prosecuted footage, "Group Sex", on B.V. #82. Also in the store is GM Video's, "Nineteen & Lovin It", containing a third alleged minor and her prosecuted footage, and additional loops of Christa and Tove on B.V. tapes #147, #151, #433, and #397.  Note: images taken at the video store in question: female on cover of "Nineteen & Lovin It" is not the one alleged. 

REQUEST FOR RECORDS:

Under state law, police departments are required to create and retain certain records, and incident reports and reports of inactive investigations are considered open (public) records. Pursuant to their investigation, a request for copies of these reports is filed with the city under the state Sunshine Law. Although exhibits were secured, and tax money, time and resources spent on the investigation, the city denies the request on the grounds that no records were created.

After a confrontation regarding their obligation to create and retain the records, the City Manager offers to meet with the Chief and his Lieutenants to determine the scope of their investigation. In a phone conversation, the City Manager states; "they don't believe there is any crime, nor is the movie child pornography....the feds can say what they want....that's not child pornography".

When asked if a citizen can legally possess, view and own B.V. tape #80 with "Patsy Learns To Play", he replies, "that's exactly what I'm telling you", and offers to put it in writing.

In his letter, the City Manager states:  

____ Police Lieutenant ____ went to ____ and after two attempts, located the alleged tape and reviewed it. In the opinion of the ____ Police Department, this tape did not contain child pornography....it was verified with the federal prosecutors that the Tape 80 was one of the tapes that was involved in the criminal case in which you were convicted....Due to the fact that there was no crime committed in the City of ____ in regards to this tape, no police report was required or prepared.

A complaint is filed with the state Attorney General, alleging the city is in violation of the state Sunshine Law. An assistant state attorney general (AAG) is provided background on the federal prosecution and per his request, a chronology of communications with the city, which spans nine months, and is signed under penalty of perjury. The AAG makes an inquiry with the Chief of Police, after confirming the following:

I contacted Assistant U.S. Attorney ____ who told me that, while your department did consult with ____ about the case, ____ never received any written report.

The Chief responds that no records were created, or required to be created, because:

All the detective did was get a copy of the tape, reviewed it, and determined that there was no violation of State law or City ordinances. There was no police report written.

The AAG accepts this response, even though he knows it conflicts with information previously provided to him, including the City Manager's letter.

It's clear in this instance that at least 12 state and federal authorities are knowingly allowing footage prosecuted as child porn to be openly distributed, including the individual and office that prosecuted the footage.

The alternative is that the city knows, or has reason to believe, the feds used false testimony.

QUESTIONS:

Under what circumstances would a Police Chief violate his oath of office and subject himself to a misprision of felony charge by overruling a federal jury verdict based on sworn testimony?

Under what circumstances would a Police Chief state on the record that footage prosecuted as child porn is legal to possess, after consulting with the individual and office that prosecuted the footage?

Under what circumstances would a city conspire with the U.S. feds to deprive a citizen of their civil rights by withholding evidence of actual innocence?

Under what circumstances would the U.S. feds deviate from their sworn testimony and statements in court filings regarding alleged minors being sexually exploited?  What's the trewthe?

Review on: Six Reasons To Stay a Virgin

Six Reasons To Stay a Virgin, is a chick's book. Yes, it basically talks about some of the things women think about, and delves deeply into the woman's state of mind. What are her thoughts and opinions about certain issues and such are tackled in this book. It's a book that delves into many issues regarding the female sex, including moral issues, friendship, love, life and dreams.

What's great about this book is that it chooses to tackle the reality that not all friends have the same way of thinking, and many people share various opinions on a certain one topic. Also, it manages to bring out the reality regarding the depth of friendship any number of people may share with one another.

Six Reasons To Stay a Virgin is the kind of book that you share with your friends. It manages to remind us that peer pressure isn't the only way to go. The most important issue for me in this book is how the main character values her virginity. Despite the respites and opinions of other people, especially her friends, she does what she has to do to prove them wrong about sex. For her, sex is sacred and this book basically tackles the reasons why she doesn't go on a sex rampage despite her friends opinions about her morals.

Also, as a teenager, there is one thing I found most endearing about this book. The  reality of losing oneself to the point that you don't realize that the person who loves you the most has been right beside you all along. It's a reality that many of us face in our lives and this book not only outlines but basically points it out to the reader.

For some, the book can be quite boring because the story's plot can be pretty obvious. But there's just something about the dialogue between the characters that makes this book such a good read. It's a book that touches the heart, mind and soul, espeicially in the presence of such a modern society with its modern ways of thinking. This book gives us a lot of things to think about.

Es para mí un honor dirigirme de nuevo a ustedes: alumnos, maestras, directoras, padres de familia y distinguidos invitados que nos acompañan en este cierre del ciclo 2007–2008.

Estoy seguro de que todos los adultos aquí presentes, al igual que yo, han disfrutado enormemente la infancia de estos niños, y su tránsito entre nosotros, en este año escolar que termina. En breve se iniciará un nuevo ciclo, que traerá consigo nuevos retos y oportunidades de crecimiento y aprendizaje para los pequeños y para los grandes también.

A las maestras (y Óscar) quiero expresarles mi agradecimiento –sin duda a nombre de todos los papás y mamás– por su cariño, dedicación y entrega a la educación de nuestros pequeños. Es mi sentido deseo que reciban parabienes con creces por su encomiable labor a favor de los chicos. En especial mil gracias a Miss Beverley, por su visión y trabajo continuado de tres décadas y a Miss Sol por su empeño constante en pro de los niños.

Al personal de la escuela, Cecilia, Edith, Don Francisco, Don Félix, Doña Julia, también nuestra inmensa gratitud, ya que su apoyo hacia niños y adultos ha sido siempre indispensable. Les estoy muy reconocido.

Les invito a recordar siempre con cariño y agradecimiento a sus maestras, a guardar en su memoria a sus compañeros y amigos, y a llevar con orgullo y satisfacción el laurel de Niños Montessori. Busquen constantemente ser mejores en lo que hagan y procuren siempre el beneficio de quienes les rodean y del país que les vio nacer. Estoy seguro de que el triunfo y la buena fortuna les aguardan en su futuro.

Finalmente, a Gabriela, Olga, Mónica, Rosamaría, Beatriz y María Elena, con quienes tuve el honor de servir en la Asociación de Padres de Familia, también un millón de gracias, es merced al trabajo de ustedes, y de las madres y padres que nos apoyaron, que logramos imaginar y materializar tantas actividades en favor de los niños este año. Yo les convoco encarecidamente a continuar esa labor altruista, con el apoyo de nuevas generaciones de madres y padres que, sin duda, les brindarán su respaldo.

Trevligt hade vi på gården som vanligt.

Shalini kom ut senare med barnen så hon fastnade inte på bild.
Sen glömde jag bort kameran,
Christa sprang som en toka mellan lägenheterna idag igen
hon håller ju på att flytta.
Marcus och Marcus kompis har hjälpt henne i flera dagar.
Som har burit småpryttlar hela tiden... dom har varit jätteduktiga!!
Dom ville själv och det var ingen som sa till dom.
Christa kom ändå en stund och fikade med oss senare.
Ut kom vi väl vid 17 tiden och strax före 21 så gick vi in..
Ja det var då barnen fick sin kvällsmat *ler*
Bättre sent än aldrig.
Dom hade hållit sina små magar i schack med hjälp av Kakor och muffins.

Är ju gammal och gaggig så jag kan bara lära mig
Ja.. ett högst två namn.. per år ju, hehe
Pappan är Finne och det hade ju varit lättare att komma ihåg Finska namn ju

Så heter väl hälften av Finlands gamlingar, hehe
Det är ju modernt med gamla namn till dom små...

Jaja... vi var på stan i alla fall... Shoppade och fikade..
Var in till min absoluta favorit affär Lilla Hjärtat
och löste ut kläder som jag hade lagt undan..
Dom har 50% Off på allting där.. så skynda fynda jättefina kläder!!

Nu så har vi fixat grill.. äntligen.
Det började ju bli dyrt att köpa engångsgrillar..
199 kr på ÖB i Arboga
Shalini var och köpte den hon har ju bil...
och vi är 4 som delar på den så det blir ju en struntsumma per person.
Det är då Sahlini, Christa, Kirsi och så jag..
Det är vi som brukar grilla på gården...
I morgon blir det premiärgrillning *ler*
Jessica kommer också och grillar..

Den ser ut ungefär som denna
men våran har mera avställningsytor bla på sidorna av kloten.
och ett annat handtag så att man lätt ska kunna köra iväg med den.

I morgon blir det stan också men innan det så ska Sahlini klippa mig
Det blir bara kapa av lite på längden.. en 5-6 cm, ingenting mera.
Tänkte köra med Hästsvans hela sommaren
och vill inte ha en sliten sådan *ler*

Kanske inte riktigt en sådan Hästsvans även om färgen delvis stämmer, hehe

Hanna och Marcus har två dagar kvar på dagis
Till hösten har jag bara skolbarn... känns nog lite konstigt
Ja och lite spännande också.. *ler*
Jag har väl mera fjärilar i magen än vad Hanna och Marcus har, hehe

Måste också börja skola in Hanna ordentligt på fritte om några veckor
och fortsätta med det under hela sommaren.
Jag ska inte lämna henne där ensam alls under denna tid
utan bara så att hon känner igen fröknarna och lokalerna
sen när hon väl börjar sen i Augusti
Vi får väl ta det som en "Picknick" till Fritte.. Hanna, Marcus och Jag *ler*

Marcus kan ju springa över till sitt Fritids och leka på gården lite..
Han är ju så duktig och jag tror inte Fröknarna har någonting emot det.
Jag har Mejlat till Skolans Rektor om en Assistent till Hanna och Fritte.
För utan en assistent så kan hon inte gå där.. så är det bara.

sprungit som tättingar med saker från den gamla lägenheten till den nya..
Marcus hjälpte dom och han var ju så jätteduktig på att springa med småsaker.
Han ville verkligen hjälpa till av hela sitt hjärta-
Han har setat och väntat på att Christa skulle sluta jobbet..
Han har hängt vid hennes trapp... halva dagen.. gullungen min..

Svenskt Midsommarväder!!

Midsommaren var som en vanlig dag här hemma..
Lite mera plockmat men annars så sammalika.
Vi skulle till Gammelgården på Midsomarfirande..
..men det regnade in för våran del.

På Lördagen så grillade vi ute.. jag och Shalini plus ungarna då.
Shalini är en härlig tjej härifrån gården med två barn och en gubbe..
Elias åkte till Västerås redan på Onsdagen till Petri..
Min älskade stora son och Elias storebrorsa.
Han kom hem Lördag eftermiddag..

Kristinelundsbadet - Krillan

Gahh, sicket väder vi har haft..
regn, sol, regn, sol, hagel och sol, regn bla bla bla...
Det var ju inte så här det skulle vara *muttrar*
VI skulle ju nästan bo på Krillan denna sommar
men vi har ju inte ens varit där alls i år.

Nu håller Christa på att flytta till min trapp..
Jag är inte ett dugg avundsjuk på henne *ler*
Fyyy, så träligt hon har framför sig.. tycker synd om henne ju.
Hon jobbar ju heltid och så ska hon hinna (Läs:orka) packa och flytta
Jag ska hjälpa henne så gott det nu går med alla dessa ungar jag har..
Dom ska ju vara på dagis tre dagar till, sen är dagiset över för alltid.
Men jag kan ju alltid bjuda henne på fika och mat under tiden hon flyttar
så slipper hon tänka på sådant..
Det är bara att dra in henne när hon går förbi i trappen ju, hehe

Hennes grabbar är hos pappan deras under tre veckor
så hon har det lite lättare än om dom skulle vara hemma..
Ja så föreställer jag mig att det är.. lättare.
Det skulle ha varit lättare för mig i alla fall om barnen var uthyrda..
när jag flyttade.
Hanna var i alla fall på Korttis när jag flyttade hit.
Johannes saknar Jonathan.... dom är ju så bra vänner.
Men grabbarna kanske tittar förbi hos mamman sin lite då och då.

NU är klockan en hel del... ska ju upp tidigt i morgon bittilda
..så det är bäst att hoppa i lopplådan nu
eller snart... om en stund, före tolv i alla fall.. ja det satsar vi på
Klockan är nu 23:23 *gääsp*
