Here are two short stories that my awesome friend Elise sent me. I know i’ve mentioned someone

Here are two short stories that my awesome friend Elise sent me. I know i've mentioned someone else and have not mentioned it yet, but I think after you read this you will understand why Elise's stories had to go up. Also technically, i may not have mentioned your name directly but this is still a mention of you. She and a few others, just graduated yesterday, from my kinda sorta not really alma matter of John Cabot in Rome, Italy. I felt this was very fitting to go along with the end of a Study Abroad experience.

EUROPEAN MEN ARE SO MUCH MORE ROMANTIC THAN AMERICAN WOMEN

I just got back from a semester abroad in Europe, and let me tell you, it truly was the most magical, amazing experience of my entire life. The French countryside was like something out of a storybook, the Roman ruins were magnificent, and the men, well, European men are by far the most romantic in the world.
You American men all think you're so suave and sophisticated. Well, think again! European men make you look like the immature, inexperienced little children you are. They really know how to make a woman feel special over there. Unlike the so-called men here in the States, European men know how to treat a woman right.
For one thing, European men aren't afraid to come up and talk to you. And they know how to start slow, with a nice cup of Italian espresso or a long walk on some historic street. They know the places you can't find in any tourist guide. They know the whole history of the cities in which they live—who the fountains are named after, who the statues are.
I remember one unforgettable night in Athens, I sat and listened to a Greek sailor for hours as he told me about the countless men who fought over Helen back in ancient times. Afterward, he told me he loved his homeland even more now that he'd seen it through my eyes. I ask you, would an American man ever say something as deep and beautiful as that?
European men know the most romantic little cafés and bistros and trattorias, candlelit places where you can be alone and drink the most fantastic wine. They tell you what's on the menu and what you should try. (If it wasn't for a certain young man in Milan, I never would have discovered fusilli a spinaci et scampi.) And the whole time, they're looking deep into your eyes, like you're the only woman on the entire planet. What woman could resist a man like that? Then, after a moonlit stroll along the waterfront and a kiss in the doorway of their artist's loft, you find yourself unable to—well, I'll leave the rest to your imagination.
I'll never forget my magical semester abroad. One thing's for sure—I'm ruined for American men forever!

AMERICAN WOMEN STUDYING IN EUROPE ARE INCREDIBLY EASY

I'm a 25-year-old carpenter living in Rome, and I don't mind telling you that I get all the action I can handle. I'm not all that handsome or well-dressed, and I'm certainly not rich. In fact, my Italian countrywomen could take me or leave me. But that's just fine, because Rome gets loads of tourist traffic, and American co-eds traveling through Europe are without a doubt the easiest lays in the world.
Being European gives me a hell of an advantage. I'm not sure why, but there's something about the accent that opens a lot of doors. All you have to do is go up to them, act a little shy and say, "Whould hyou like to go with me, Signorina, for a café?" I actually have to thicken up my accent a little, but they never, ever catch on.
After a cheap coffee, which to them always tastes better than anything they've ever had, because they're in Europe, it's time to walk them. Now, all they know about Rome is what they've read in Let's Go, so you can pretty much just make up a whole bunch of shit. It's fun to see how much they'll swallow: As long as I refer to Italy as "my homeland" and other Italians as "my people," they'll believe pretty much anything. I don't know who most of the local statues are, so I tell the muffins they're all great artists and poets and lovers. Once, just for the hell of it, I told a psychology major from the University of Maryland that a public staircase was part of the Spanish Steps, which she'd never even heard of. Another time, I told this blonde from Michigan State that the public library was the Parthenon, and she cooed like I'd just given her a diamond.
For dinner, I usually take them to some cheap little hole in the wall, someplace deserted where not even the cops eat. American girls think candlelight means "romance," not "deteriorating public utilities," so they just poke their nipples through their J. Crew sweaters and never notice that there's no electricity. Just as well, because Roman restaurants aren't exactly the cleanest. After a bunch of fast-talk about the menu, I get them the special, which is usually some anonymous pasta with spinach and day-old shrimp, and whatever cheap, generic, Pope's-blood chianti's at the bottom of the list.
By this time, they're usually standing in a slippery little puddle. Going in for the kill, I walk them past one of Rome's famous 2,000-year-old open cesspools. Then, as we open the door to my shitty efficiency, I kiss them on the eyelids so they don't see the roaches, making sure the first thing they see is the strategically positioned artist's easel I bought at some church sale. That's usually all they need to see and, like clockwork, they fall backwards on my bed with their Birkenstocks in the air.
I mean, they're hardly Italian women, but we have a saying here in Europe: Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?

That is quality humor. I remember sometime in the start of the Italian course I took in school, our teacher Sarah, was telling the girls different phrases to dissuade the advances of Italian men. Tim then asked if there were any phrases the guys could learn in order to get Italian women. She immediately shook her head and said "No, no. Italian men like American women, Italian women no like American men."

This subject has a lot of potential and i for see future posts related to this, from stories told by Italian guys and study abroad women. Since this was not as rAnty as other posts I will just throw up some photos of Rome and try ans save face...i took them myself, so it is a visual rAnt

I personally think that the American Idol finalist David Cook’s version of Mariah Carey’

I personally think that the American Idol finalist David Cook's version of Mariah Carey's 'Always Be My Baby' was really good. He got me hooked onto that song. Although some of my aj friends said he 'murdered' the song, I still think he did justice to the song and even made a very refreshing version of it. I would say I like it better than Mariah's. What say you?

I hope he wins American Idol. But David Archuleta is not bad as well.

Oh well. Hah.

Look to the Stars is very proud of our own Crystal A. Johnson , who took part in the weekend’s Revlon Run/Walk.

The 15th EIF Annual Revlon Run/Walk in Los Angeles took place Saturday Morning, kicked off by Halle Berry, Tom Selleck and Dancing With the Stars’ Carrie Ann Inaba strapping on their shoes for a great cause. The charity raises money to help in the fight against breast cancer.

However, I was not prepared for how touching it would be to see an ocean of walkers sporting tags or shirts dedicated to the memory of a loved one. Immediately, one is stricken with the gravity of the mission. Coverage of this event was double duty for me because I participated as a walker for the first time. My grandmother, Josephine Wilson had a mastectomy in the 60’s and was a proud survivor until a ripe old age. At the completion of the race, walkers and runners entered the LA Colliseum. By the time many of the walkers finished, 80’s classic group the Go Go’s were on stage performing hit tunes. Belinda Carlisle was looking great and still has the beat. Jesse McCartney also performed. Other stars such as Days of Our Lives’ Deidre Hall and actor Jonathan Hensley also showed their support.

The EIF Revlon Run/Walk happens annually in New York and Los Angeles.

British geniuses feature heavily in a recent list that notes the greatest living thinkers of our tim

British geniuses feature heavily in a recent list that notes the greatest living thinkers of our time - proportionately more than any other country.

The top 100 living geniuses was compiled by a panel of six experts in creativity and innovation from Creators Synectics, a global consultants firm.

The company emailed 4,000 Britons this summer and asked them to nominate up to 10 living people who they considered geniuses.

Each genius was then awarded scores out of ten against criteria which included: paradigm shifting; popular acclaim; intellectual power; achievement and cultural importance.

"A shiny new demo of the upcoming Lego Indiana Jones game landed earlier today!"

"What is this 'Lego' you speak of?"

"It's these plastic blocks used to build little people and sometimes objects. In this case it's a Lego recreation of quite-popular-but-not-as-good-as-Star-Wars film franchise Indiana Jones."

"Interesting, so does that mean that the game is essentially not quite as good as it's amazingly popular Star Wars predecessors?"

"It seems the answer is unfortunately yes, it's exactly the same sidescrolling platforming simplicity we've seen before from Lego Star Wars with a less popular franchise, but the sense of humour and general silliness is still here in abundance, so it's still worth checking out for the laughs."

"Laughs, you say. Tell me more..."

"Well, the keyboard controls are just awful so you'll want to change them in settings or otherwise just hook up a game pad. You'll get bloom lighting and depth of field effects if your PC is down with that sort of thing, the game couldn't look much better. Also, remarkably, in spite of the sidescrolling screen to screen action there's a fair amount of exploring to be done, with the option of free play with extra characters once you complete the mission. You'll come back again to unlock those new areas, and there's a few to be found in the demo alone. If you like your co-op then you're in for a giggle as well as the format is perfectly suited for two players."

"I'm still not quite convinced that this is worth my time, sirrah."

"Then I shall use the following four words to sway you: Giant. Rolling. Lego, and boulder."

"Sold. Bernard, fetch my gaming pipe and some pants - to the Personal Computing Machine!"

Time began slipping slowly away as Professor Krauss continued telling her story. She had started her speech with concise sentences avoiding superfluous descriptions, but over time her tale began to morph into some kind of fairyland epic. I could tell that the Secretary of Defense was getting impatient with her. I saw him glance down at his wrist-watch on several occasions, and finally he interrupted her.

“Get to the point!” he demanded as she was describing to us the magnificent palace that used to exist in the Roman citadel on Mars. “Just tell us how it ends!”
