Assim como no post que eu fiz no DK Design há algum tempo, eu disse que no início da faculdade de Propaganda e Marketing eu me assustei diante do pensamento, ainda "curto", que eu tive. Fiquei imaginando como nessa profissão eu poderia fazer coisas para "ajudar as pessoas ou o mundo", assim como fazem médicos que atendem de graça, dentistas, professores, etc.

Mas em pouco tempo fui descobrindo que a coisa não funcionava exatamente assim. Ser publicitário pode ser algo muito maior e muito melhor.

Quem envolvido no meio publicitário não conhece os Festival de Publicidade de Cannes?! (se tu não conhece, clica lá). A maior premiação de publicidade mundial, um megaboga evento reunindo os maiores cabeções da publicidade mundial. Lá são premiados em diversas categorias os vários trabalhos de agencias do mundo todo.

Mas algo que se encaixou perfeitamente no que esperava encontrar um dia na vida de publicitário foi a idéia ‘felômenal' que a galera de Cannes teve: o Humanitarian Lion.

O projeto do Humanitarian Lion foi criado para que as maiores mentes da criatividade mundial pensassem juntas numa forma de ajudar o mundo a melhorar, seja no aspecto sócio-econômico, político, ambiental, whatever... O importante é que os grandes cabeçudos da publicidade que estariam em Cannes disputando os vários Leões pudessem disputar mais esse prêmio.

Prêmio que não vem apenas com um troféu de Leão dourado. É um prêmio que pode ser implementado contando com a ajuda de grandes empresas, clientes dessas agencias que patrocinariam as ações juntamente com as idéias da agência.

There are many 秋祭 (Autumn Festivals) around 日本 (Japan) this weekend and next. We plan to go to a couple of them.

Today (土曜日 (Saturday)), though, we're just staying home because our daughters need to study for exams that they'll will have at school on 火曜日 (Tuesday).

I'm part of "Generation X" (born in the late 1960s - late '70s). I was in Elementary school in the 1970s and a teenager in the 1980s.
I can remember (vaguely) the election of the US President Jimmy Carter. More vividly I remember when Rubik's Cube®, Sony Walkman® (that played cassettes), MTV®, "Nightmare On Elm Street", and Pac-Man® were big.

Growing up I loved Star Wars, The Incredible Hulk (TV show), Knight Rider (I've seen an episode of that old show recently...I can't believe I liked it as a kid!), Evel Knievel, The Fonz, and heavy metal music (some of my favorites were (and still are): KISS (see my post here), Judas Priest, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, and Scorpions).

Recognize any of those? Some things on that list were from the '70s (until I was ten years old) and others were from the '80s (when I was eleven years old til high school).

My three kids were born between 1993 and 1996. Their generation doesn't remember a pre-internet or pre-cell phone world. They were too young to understand the "9/11" attacks when they occurred.

Anyways...what was popular with you when you were growing up? (Write about it in the comments section!)

When I first got the revelation that God does things suddenly it was fresh, wild, and exciting. But as you mature in the Lord the stakes get much higher. Now, I'm facing a "suddenly" that could really put my whole operation out on a limb. The real truth that I'm facing is that putting God in total control is all about me losing control.

Ten years ago our company, Christian WYSIWYG Filmworks, submitted our first feature film "Guardians" to the Sundance Film Festival. At the same time it was entered Anne Lanza, our vice-president's wife, felt a word from the Lord that we should start our own festival. At this time in our career we were just learning the skill of asking God about everything. I asked our staff if we should start our own Christian Film Festival. I said, "If this truly is a word from God, He will confirm it by giving us the same message from out of the blue." One hour later I received a call from one of our actors, Vonn Scott Blair who asked me, "Richard, does God ever speak to sinners like me?" I replied, "Sure! He uses anybody. In the Bible He even spoke through a donkey." Vonn started laughing. He said, "Well, I guess God could use me then. I was driving my car through Sausalito. I heard a voice telling me 'Call Richard. Tell him to do his own festival for Christian films."
WOW! What a confirmation Vonn's call was. We now knew that we were destined to do this. For the last eight years we have produced a very successful festival that has operated in a pattern similar to festivals worldwide. This year, everything suddenly changed.

God spoke to us, "Don't plan anything for the film festival this year. I will surprise you with my new plan." Anyone that is familiar with planning events that involve people traveling from around the world, showing expensive films covered in layers of copyrights, knows that this kind of event requires a huge lead time. And here God was not only surprising us, but taking away the one element that could give us an advantage--lead time. As the months of 2008 ticked away, the more desperate our situation became. We didn't have our annual fund raising banquet. We didn't secure the big films. We didn't invite the big crowd-drawing names. We didn't collect the big award money. We didn't even announce the festival to anyone. Worst of all, God wouldn't even allow us to update our website, though we asked Him numerous times. The only inkling we had was that in May God told us the dates of the festival: November 5th-8th.

As you can imagine we were soon inundated with film makers that were questioning, "Are you going to have a festival? Are you guys still there? When's the submission date? How do I get my film to you in time?" The calls and e-mails just kept coming and coming until my personal e-mail box was packed to the last gigabyte. At one point, Bob Gurich, who represents the largest DVD distributor in North America, said "Richard, you gotta get this festival going. You guys are important movers & shakers in the industry." I could only look at Bob and shake my head and say, "I'm waiting on God." To my amazement Bob fully understood and lightened up on the pressure, (all of you would be amazed at how many people are waiting on the Lord for something, and understand this divine principle).

During this time of waiting our own company, Christian WYSIWYG Filmworks, had an incredible breakthrough. We received the green light from a group of Asian investors for investment on our two-hundred-million dollar picture. Trust me, waiting on God is always worth it. God's ways are so high above our ways that they are literally incomprehensible, at least by my small mind.

One month away from our film festival God gave me a dream. In my dream I took two pots and set them on a table in front of the investors. I told them that they were to fill the pots and send me back to San Francisco to make our film. They all agreed, and began standing up. Each held up papers with the amount they were investing. I turned around and looked behind me. There were hundreds of pots stretching into the horizon. I'm not sure I understand what the pots mean.

The day after the dream God speaks to me through a prophet and says that I am to go back to the mountain in Palm Springs where God originally met me with our vision to launch WYSIWYG. Sandy, my wife, and I flew to Palm Springs and went to the top of the mountain to pray. When we arrived at the top God spoke to my wife and I about fasting for forty days and in the midst of the discussion the Lord said, "Now I will explain to you the meaning of the dream. I, the Lord, have anointed you to receive money from investors to fill the two pots that are before you. There are others that are called to make Christian films. Many of them you do not know, but I want you to release your anointing to gather finances upon them. That is what the other pots you saw behind you are for. At this year's film festival you are to invite any and all Christian film makers with their films and give them a pot with my anointing upon it. I, the Lord, will fill the pot when they set it before believers, just as I have filled your two pots."

As you can imagine, by man's standard, this is no way to plan a film festival. But the staff of WYSIWYG and I are just crazy enough to do exactly as the Lord has told us to do. This means on November the 5th, at 9:00 in the morning, that on a first-come-first-served basis, any Christian film maker can have his or her film submitted to be shown at the time slot of their choice at our ninth annual Christian Film Festival. I realize this is dangerous. Who knows what's going to be submitted--everything from junk to boredom to passion to greatness. But God did give us a safety valve. For short films, sixty minutes or less, the film is put on pause after two minutes, and more than 50% of the audience has to vote for the film to continue running. If your film isn't good enough to muster up the vote your showing ends there--but, there is good news; even in spite of your bad showing, you will receive an offering from that same audience. 50% of the offering goes into your personal pot that you will receive at the awards banquet Saturday night. The other 50% goes to pay the expenses of the film festival. For feature-length films that are one hour or more, your cut off point will be ten minutes into your film. Then you will need more than fifty percent of the audience's vote for your film to continue. In either case, film makers will receive a pot and a 50% offering.

Of course, everyone is invited to this festival. There is no entrance fee, no submission fee, and no registration fee. Simply come as you are, and if you've shot a film bring it in DVD format, cause we'll show it.

When I presented this to the 39 members of our staff, after a long-measured silence, there was a flow of questions, which as you can imagine were pretty controversial. At the same time there was an incredible inertia of excitement. At the end of the discussion everyone in the room felt it was truly a "suddenly" from God. That's the coolest part of this commitment to follow as Jesus did. "I can only do what I see the Father doing." On a personal level I have no clue what our festival is going to be like this year. I can tell you this one thing--it will be fresh. It will be something you've never seen before, full of surprises, edge of your seat tension, and just about full of all the kinds of things you read in Biblical stories. No wonder they call them Biblical epics.

Madrid, 10 de octubre.- Hoy comenzó la cuarta edición del Festival Internacional de cine El Ojo Cojo, que llevará en Madrid un  aluvión de cine de alta calidad, con 160 películas que proceden de 42 países de los cinco continentes y que se proyectarán en 19 salas de Madrid, como Instituto Cervantes, Casa Asia, Centro de Arte Reina Sofía entre otros. Una oportunidad única para reunirse en diversos contextos - centros culturales, centros sociales, bares, plazas, clubes - y enfrentarse con mil facetas y miradas diferentes de la realidad, en frente de aquella pantalla mágica que siempre puede enseñar algo y que siempre nos hace salir de nuestra rutina para soñar un poco.

La oferta intenta abarcar el máximo posible de puntos de vista, a través de películas de ficción, documentales y de animación. Entre los 120 filmes a concurso hay 47 largometrajes y 73 cortometrajes, candidatos a los premios Guiño, que se darán a conocer el 17 de octubre. Además, hay cuatro monográficos: Una mirada al cine rumano, Busho y dos selecciones de México, Fronteras y México rumbo al bicentenario. Las películas que fueron seleccionadas representan el deseo de diálogo intercultural que es la base del Festival El Ojo Cojo, pero sobre todo reclaman un papel activo del espectador: que sean irónicas o dramáticas, ficciones o documentales, siempre estimulan el pensamiento crítico y la curiosidad de mirar más allá del horizonte que nos hacen humanos.

Bajo la dirección de Amparo Gea, el Festival El Ojo Cojo ha ido creciendo en los último cuatro años, pasando de tres salas iniciales, en la primera edición, hasta 19 salas y dos plazas. Según Gea, la expansión de este festival ha conseguido llamar la atención de las instituciones; la asociación recibe ayudas del Ayuntamiento de Madrid, la Comunidad de Madrid, la Secretaría General Iberoamericana (SEGIB) y la Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional y Desarrollo (AECID), entre otras instituciones. "Tenemos mucho apoyo porque ofrecemos calidad, cumplimos los tiempos y no nos comprometemos a nada que no podamos cumplir".

The studio is known as a pioneer with three dimensions, with the price with three dimensions computer-animated including/understanding chicken little in 2005 and meet Robinsons in 2007. Without counting that Toy Story and cars, the program animated of release includes six films of the studios of animation of Pixar, four of the studios of animation of Walt Disney and of the series to direct--Comprising DVD with films of the fairies of Disney of the studios of DisneyToon.

The cast iron of voice for Toy Story 3 includes Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cussack, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, Estelle Harris, John Ratzenberger and Ned Beatty.

Da questo ottobre 2008 l’editoria indipendente avrà finalmente il suo festival. Proprio così. Sabato 18 e domenica 19 ottobre prenderà vita “Il canto della parola”, la prima edizione del Festival romagnolo dell’editoria indipendente, che coinvolgerà diversi Comuni della provincia di Ravenna: Bagnacavallo, Bagnara di Romagna, Massa Lombarda. Del resto il territorio ravennate è ricco e molto attivo dal punto di vista culturale. Basti ricordare che su questa provincia prendono vita alcuni dei Festival più importanti d’Italia, ognuno per la propria tipologia: il Ravenna festival, il MEI – Meeting delle Etichette Indipendenti, il festival letterario dedicato alla letteratura di genere GialloLuna NeroNotte, per citarne solo alcuni.

All’intraprendenza e alla voglia di fare di Michele Antonellini e di Daniele Tassinari, che per l’associazione culturale Controsenso e la casa editrice Discanti si occupano della direzione artistica del festival, non poteva quindi sfuggire la possibilità di realizzare un evento il cui scopo è quello di aiutare a valorizzare le piccole case editrici che si trovano al di fuori dei grandi circuiti editoriali. E nello stesso tempo promuovere e diffondere la lettura nel pubblico coinvolgendolo in un evento multidisciplinare. Infatti, oltre alla presentazione di libri e agli incontri con gli autori, il festival propone anche spettacoli, workshop, proiezioni, letture, showcase.

Hanno aderito all’iniziativa molti editori, tra i quali: Bacchilega (Imola), Barbera (Siena), Fernandel (Ravenna), Manni (S. Cesario di Lecce), Stampa Alternativa (Viterbo), Zona (Arezzo), Zandegù (Torino).

Nel ricco cartellone del festival, che proporrà appuntamenti dalla mattina del sabato fino alla serata della domenica, ci saranno: il poliedrico critico musicale Dario Salvatori che parlerà del volume Che canti! Il mito di Ernesto Che Guevara nella musica italiana; il giornalista de LA7 Ivo Mej racconterà di Moro rapito! Personaggi, testimonianze, fatti nel corso di un incontro al quale parteciperanno anche Paolo Colombo (docente di Storia delle istituzioni politiche all’Università cattolica di Milano), Franco Fracassi (giornalista, fotografo e documentarista, regista di Zero – Inchiesta sull’11 settembre) e Piergiorgio Costa (insegnante di italiano e storia); Raffaella R. Ferré presenterà il suo libro Santa Precaria; Isabella Maria Zoppi con Torino. Canzoni al Valentino. Guida alla città e alle sue canzoni, e a seguire sarà la protagonista di una performance musicale; l’architetto-compositore Fabio Caucino con il suo volume Passeggero dell’anima e poi con una performance musicale; Massimo Padua con L’eco delle conchiglie di vetro; la polistrumentista Susanna Parigi (già al fianco di Cocciante e Baglioni prima di intraprendere la carriera di solista), che presenterà il cd e il dvd In differenze, per poi tenere un coinvolgente concerto, aperto per l’occasione dal cantautore bagnacavallese Francesco Bejor; Francesca Bonafini presenterà il suo libro Mangiacuore in compagnia della scrittrice ravennate Paola Amadesi; il giovane Simone Rossi parlerà della sua recente fatica editoriale La luna è girata strana nel corso di un reading per voci narranti, ukulele, basso acustico, flauto dal titolo Ovunque appoggerò la testa con i cucchiaiodivetro.

Obiettivi del Festival romagnolo dell’editoria indipendente sono: creare un momento di approfondimento e crescita per il lettore; interessare il potenziale lettore; offrire un momento di confronto tra editori, autori/artisti e pubblico, nonché tra editori e artisti locali con editori e artisti provenienti da altre parti d’Italia.

There has been a lot of work going on in the background here and I have finished my books, worked in some owed altered books and made posters, but really no good pictures just yet.

Today has been a busy day in Cupar in preparation for the Opening Ceremony, I will try and take photos, but have a hunch the fading light will cause problems.  Having seen the artwork going up around the town, I have a feeling this event is going to be a huge success. 

Preparations are nearly all done for my own Open Studio exhibition (next weekend) and here are the pictures that are going in.  I wanted them to be all related and along a theme, so have stuck with the Still Life genre and concentrated on the bowls and jug series:

While I was assessing the pieces en masse like this, I also put together a contact sheet of the other pieces I have completed so far this year, but won't have on show at the exhibition as they don't fit in.

They may be in a browser box though.

I had thought I hadn't done very much this year, I have been struggling with health issues and had felt I wasn't putting the hours in.  Just goes to show how a little bit here and there, does mount up when you stand back and look at it.  Working as often as you can, as much as you can does pay off eventually.

Con esta premisa fui al día siguiente, sólo ante el peligro, al evento como lo que era: El estreno de mi corto en pantalla grande. El presentador me convocó al escenario para presentar mi corto. Tenía cosas pensadas de antemano que había anotado metódicamente (raro en mi) en mi mano, pero estaban emborronadas por el sudor. Dije lo que quise decir, dirigiéndome directamente tanto al espectador como al primerizo creador. Es raro, porque el público sabes que son personas pero no las ves, es una masa uniforme a la que te diriges con la fe de que eres escuchado. Pero lo peor para mis nervios vendría después, con el pase de mi corto en cuarto lugar. Me gustó mucho el de unos gallegos, 5 días de septiembre, por la audacia narrativa de hacer un corto a través de la improvisación de sus actores, porque había momentos puntuales en los que te sentías totalmente unido a sus imágenes.

Sorprendente. Ese es el adjetivo. Da igual la de veces que hayas visto el corto en el ordenador o el televisor: En pantalla grande es como verlo por primera vez. No es sólo el tamaño de la imagen, es el sonido, la oscuridad, el silencio. La capacidad de aislarte completamente de tus circunstancias y de sumergirte en un mar de fotogramas. Percibí de manera notoria las imperfecciones de mi propuesta, pero también me llegó amplificado su hilo emocional. Sentí rubor en algunas ocasiones y una alegría enorme cuando tras el último plano la gente arrancó a aplaudir. Ese reconocimiento (que recibían todos los concursantes) me llegó y sentí algo que había anticipado en mi presentación sobre el escenario: Que el premio era ese momento en el que compartías tu arte con el público. Del premio monetario, otros lo merecían más (de hecho el palmarés lo componen casi por completo cortos de esa segunda jornada) con propuestas más maduras y elegantes. Me daba igual. Ese día fue una celebración.

De ejemplo os envío un link al buen reportaje que hicieron los chicos de Popular TV Guadalajara (un beso para Isra y Mónica!!) en el que hay parte de la entrevista que me hicieron. Qué alegría.

Intento que todos los días sean diferentes. La repetición me pone nervioso. Pero las obligaciones horarias te sumergen en una rutina de la que ha veces es difícil escapar. Pero aquellos dos días de festival, por motivos diferentes, fueron muy significativos, muy vivos, muy diferentes. De esa experiencia aprendí que percibir el margen de mejora es importante, entre otras cosas porque te impulsa a no dejar de aprender nunca, pero sobre todo que hay que apreciar las cosas como son en el momento que son, porque en cuanto te pones a pensar en qué podrías haber hecho para hacerlo mejor o qué harás para superarlo ya te los has perdido. Si cierras los ojos te pierdes la vida. En eso el amor es muy exquisito, porque habita ese espacio entre dos miradas cómplices, entre los recovecos de un abrazo, en el eco de una palabra susurrada al oído, en la oscuridad interior de un beso. Y no entiende de planes, ni de recuerdos. Es lo que es en el momento que es y lo mejor es celebrarlo. Lo de antes es anhelo y lo de después nostalgia. Yo los he confundido en ocasiones, pero cuando lo vives no hay duda, es una certeza absoluta, es una conspiración universal.

Aquellos días de festival ocurrió algo curioso y bonito: Fue el final del camino para mi corto y el inicio de una historia de amor.

¿Casualidad? No lo creo.

Aquest dissabte arrenca la setmana mundial de l’espai! Des de BLOC.TDI volem aprofitar la celebració de la Setmana Mundial de l’Espai per presentar-te alguns blocs de la TDI que es dediquen a parlar d’astronomia.

Però també parlarem del Festival Internacional de Cinema Fantàstic i de Terror de Sitges, que comença aquest dijous. Et convidarem a participar al Teaserland, un concurs on has de grabar un trailer fals per una pel·lícula que no existeixi. I escoltarem sons de l’espai, del Dani Flaco i de Presidente. Ens acompanyes?

El próximo 29 de noviembre de 2008 expira el plazo para la presentación de los originales que concursarán en la sexta edición del Festival de Creación Joven Barcelona VisualSound.

El evento centra sus expectativas en el potencial creativo de los jóvenes realizadores menores de 35 años residentes en el estado español, aceptando obras que se adapten a las siguientes modalidades: Animación, Banda Sonora Original (BSO), Diseño de la web, Documental de Contenido Social, Documental de Montaña-Aventura-Naturaleza, Ficción, Películas de móvil o cámara de fotos, Videoclip, Videocreación i Vídeo publicitario.

La sexta edición del Barcelona Visual Sound tendrá lugar del 17 al 27 de febrero de 2009 en diferentes equipamientos municipales de la ciudad de Barcelona y espera ser, como en todas las ediciones anteriores, referente indiscutido para los jóvenes creadores del campo audiovisual y multimedia.
