I have been not myself the past few days because my tummy had been revolting against me with hyperac

I have been not myself the past few days because my tummy had been revolting against me with hyperacidity. I guess my body is taking its toll on me now. I got to pay for my not so good treatment to it by engulfing and succumbing to stress (because i have perfected the art of stressing myself), and i actually am doing good! because today i'm feeling better! and my cyanotic brain is now getting its normal color and we've agreed to take good care of each other for better functioning! Yey me!:-)

So that's that for my update on piapot's world. On to my post!:-)

* * *

When I was all crumpled on bed last night, I found my folder of drawings before, and this is the first time i'm actually going to write that i draw. Haha anyway, i'm not as good as the cartoonists in our student pub. because they are really masters in the this field! Though here are a few of my masterpeices (in my eyes)!:-)

all locked up

Most of my drawings are drawn with ink and pencil.

Some of my drawings were not dated, most of them i have drawn at night when my insomniatic brain doesn't want to rest. Though it's almost a month now that i have been able to complete my eight hours of sleep! And I'm actually getting my rest! Yey super me!:-)

His hands

This one is drawn in pencil alone. I drew this Christmas of 2007 when my best bud came to visit for the holidays.

He wanted me draw the arrow thing on his wrist that day and i did it on paper too!:-) haha though he really did not believe me that i can draw! lol

Anime

This one i copied from an anime magazine which my lil sis Kulot wanted me to draw for her.

I actually think i did well!:-) and i didn't forgot to put the date either!

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="336" caption="Where to?"][/caption]

I made this with pastels just to make something in color. And ooh! i LOVE butterflies! though these were all in black, i love the ones with pretty collors too!:-)

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="217" caption="Warrior Angel"][/caption]

I'm fascinated by angels, especially by how artists and cartoonist illustrate them. This one i copied from the internet. The real one was in full color, mine obviously in ink. I find it easier to use it rather than any other medium.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="229" caption="Not So Caricatured"][/caption]

I tried to make a caricature out of an artist from a song mag, though i think it wasn't that successful. haha

So there's my gallery!:-) and to people who actually are like me that adds stress in their morning coffee, lighten up! It's not easy to deal with them, especially when your body is gowing down the drains. Have some stress releiver, find an outlet! and you've just viewed mine!

Just take it easy! Life has so much in it not to stress for! Oh what a great life!:-)

I made this card for a friend's baby boy, who turns one in a few days. The bear holding the arrow is hand drawn and cut out and then sponged with Ranger's distress inks. The number 1 is also hand cut and sponged. The arrow says "Lucas is turning" . The gatefold card is made with Crate papers and the butterfly, train and teddy bear (inside the card) are from a baby stamp set from Fiskars. The balloon stamp is from Reprint. They are colored with Koh-i-Noor pencils and blended with a Dove Blender. The smudge in the upper corner inside the card is my daughter's contribution to the card: a nice nudge at mommy's elbow... :)

I've been doing a lot of my inking on the PC lately. This was 1/2 drawn for my Pegasus project and 1/2 drawn for my students at the school who I taught inking to yesterday. What a great class, all the kids (15 yrs old) are great students, receptive and talented. I come home from there on a great high.

I used corrugated cardboard for the first time for this layout. I even applied a scenic route rub on to it and it worked quite well. I used a jelly roll pen to apply it, the rounded cap part so that it didn't go down into the ribs of the cardboard.

I distressed the edges, and inked of course, and even did some stitching too. This is what it looks like.

[caption id="attachment_104" align="alignnone" width="300" caption="Portland Zoo"][/caption]

And here is a close up of the edge of the cardboard, the notepaper and the tag.

I Drew About 100 Different dolls, if you look at the row of dolls for the second time . You might just find a diffrent one . (look properly)

The Meaning of this artwork is that ..If you Look at the dolls .. They are made up of diffrent fabrics and they still smile although they are badly damaged .. giving out a message from me saying that :

No matter how much you pretend to be someone else or try to be perfect , You will Never be perfect .. No one is . .. otherwise you are just like those Dolls ,

They were Perfect at first when they were brought at the store .. but time after time .. they will eventually Rot and spoil (Just like us when we die) ...

Well, it’s August in a blink of an eye. School’s starting next week much to my chagrin,

Well, it's August in a blink of an eye. School's starting next week much to my chagrin, but on the bright side EPL is making its comeback on the weekends and my birthday is this Friday!

I guess this year is kinda special and all, since it's 08/08/08 and the start of the Olympics so I was wondering whether I should just try my hand at the special S$8 million TOTO draw on the very day.

Who knows, maybe I will have more luck on my birthday than usual ^^;

Wishful thinking aside, I finally completed my Zeta Plus C1 Gundam model that I bought 3 years ago. Hurray!! XD

[caption id="" align="alignnone" width="480" caption="Box art"][/caption]

Yeah, that's right - the box was sitting in a corner of my wardrobe for 3 long years since I lugged it back from a hobby shop in HK. It was much cheaper there than the market price so I thought, Hey why not? At least I will just sell it for a profit back home..

Alas, the masters of procrastination got me as usual. That is, until now ^^;

I finally got my butt moving a few weeks ago after some prodding from Via and I was pretty free anyway so I decided to give it a shot.

[caption id="attachment_59" align="alignnone" width="480" caption="Before etching"][/caption]

I don't usually paint my gundams - just the usual snap-fitting of parts and posing the final mecha in my cupboard so they don't really look as good as they should.

This time around I decided to do the Zeta a bit more justice, but an air compressor is still way out of my league so I settled for spray cans instead. They weren't too cheap though ^^;

(1 can of dark grey + 1 can of light grey + 1 can of Top Coat = S$25+)

[caption id="attachment_64" align="alignnone" width="480" caption="Transformation was a bitch -_-""][/caption]

Following the guide from dannychoo, I sprayed the runners out of the box without snipping anything off. I'd say this method sure saves a lot of time and was pretty fun to boot, other than the fact I messed up the first runner by spraying too close ^^;

However, I found out later that for some reason the parts are much more difficult to put together than usual, probably because of an extra coat of paint on the connectors, and that resulted in some really sore fingers during assembly -_-"

That, as well as the nip marks which were really obvious in some places but I ran out of paint to spray over them -_-"

[caption id="attachment_60" align="alignnone" width="480" caption="The long weapon kinda limits its poses"][/caption]

Made a few mistakes along the way as usual such as screwing up the inking, missing out on a tiny part and having 2 left legs(!) at one point in time, but all's well ends well I guess.

In addition to painting, I decided to try my hand at the etching of logos as well since I never really knew how to before I read the guide.

I kinda messed up lots of times but luckily there were lots of spares ^^;

But seriously, etching is real difficult. The closest I got was 2 fine cracks in a logo and that was it. The really bad ones I attribute to wear and tear during battle ^^;

[caption id="attachment_63" align="alignnone" width="480" caption="Battle damage ^^;"][/caption]

However, I do admit it makes the Zeta look more kickass along with the painting.

All in all, I'm pretty satisfied with the final outcome and it's now sitting proudly in my cupboard :)

Oh, and did I forget to mention that I bought two models from HK? The other one's a Nu-Gundam, which is probably bigger and more complex judging from the box size and price.

Another time and day perhaps? ^^;

I've finally managed to get myself discharged from the hospital (again) and one of the first things I looked forward to when I got home was working on my painting. There's this simple phoenix-related concept I worked out that's loose enough to experiment on, but "good" enough to be considered a "real" new piece of art instead of just another doodle. I'm trying to learn how to really paint and it's much more difficult than just painting one of my figurines.

[caption id="attachment_5" align="alignleft" width="227" caption="3 Hospital Doodles"][/caption]

There's a bunch of new pages from my sketchbook. I can't sleep, so I spend most of my waking hours doodling and practicing different inking techniques. I've been trying out different brands and styles of pens and inks to figure out what can be accomplished with what. My favorite thing is to try to mimic different textures using inking techniques. Today I bought some color ink pens; I'm excited about the idea of adding color to my pieces using something besides paints. (I'm more than a little scatterbrained about sticking to one medium...)
My big complaint is I had to invest in a desktop/tabletop easel in addition to my recent investment in a standing easel. I stand up while I paint because I like to get my face so close to the canvas; it's just easier on a person's back to stand. Now that I can't stand up I have to sit and paint. The quality of the detail has deteriorated, but for now, I'm just very happy to be home and able to work on things at all.

I'll allow myself one paragraph to gripe about my surgery: So far I'm happy that I had the gallbladder removal surgery despite all of the recovery time required. I've had two complications that sent me to the ER post-surgery; uncontrollable vomiting one night (sent home), inability to breathe properly the next day (this time a 3 day hospital stay). I'm being extremely careful with my diet and exertions so I don't end up back there again. I want to be able to paint, not just work on sketchbook doodles! So I can barely digest my food, barely walk, can't breathe well... Even now I still have other health issues to take care of once I recover from surgery. I hope I handle university okay this semester. Summer is far, far too short this year.

For some time I've been offering 'free pictures of anything' on gumtree.com. If you don't already know about Gumtree, it's sort of the British answer to Craigslist, an American based site for people selling anything to everything. From yoga classes to bear traps, from bear traps to beatles memorabilia. It's wonderful.

There's a section, the all important 'freebies' section, that many people frequent in the hope that someone might be giving away that old Ferrari they've had knocking about in their garage for ages, or a dusty gold bullion that frankly looks rubbish with the new curtains. What they find instead is free manure, a broken fridge and a massive collection of pornographic playing cards from the 1970's.

Among the broken fridges and free manure, I placed an ad offering free pictures of anything. I did this initially to combat the boredom of working in an office. I love drawing more than anything in the world, so it made sense to do something that cheered me up, cheered others up, and didn't give me the same brand of office related boredom that caused me to make sculpture, out of pear, in my lunch box. Every day.

It started as fun, but later became much more meaningful. People would ask me to draw their dreams, their grandchildren, my interpretation of blindness, even spatchcock chickens raving with monkeys. On the moon.

From the calm to the outright crazy, I found peoples requests a tiny insight into peoples lives. It let me see a spontaneous side to everybody. I've been searching for a worthwhile project for a long time. I have hundreds of comic ideas that never met paper, and thousands of sketches that never became a finished piece.

Doing this has not just taught me to finish what I started, it's found me, at long last, a worthwhile project.

Every request email will be posted, and the picture will shortly follow. I'll also post up the odd drawing or comic I did in between drawing said requests.

So click through, enjoy the pictures, and I hope you enjoy reading as much as I have drawing. If you want to leave any comments at all, I'd love to hear from you.

Have a great day!

Paul

PS: If you're reading this in August, you might want to bookmark this and hang back a while. The blog will look awesome very, very soon.

PPS: Every artist has his muse, and mine is called Lynne. Without her this wouldn't have made it to cyberspace. Thanks Lynnie :)

I'm a bit late posting my Sketch This card for the week. But, better late than never, right?

I recognized this sketch as soon as I saw it. If you go check out the blog, you will see that this sketch is the cute, cute page that Janelle Richmond did as a guest designer for us at the Paper-Playground kit site. You all may remember that I posted her adorable page earlier on my blog. I loved that design then, and have loved having the chance to play with it myself now.

I used this vintage clip from Crafty Secrets as the starting block for this card. I have had a whole booklet of these in my stash for a couple of years and have only used a few. I just fell in love with this beachy one immediately. Even though we are in school right now (bleck), I dream of long, blissful days on the beach. It is summertime, after all. All the papers used in this are from My Mind's Eye. The greeting and sub-greeting are cardstock stickers from Making Memories. I also used just a little bit of organdy ribbon and inked all the edges just to further enhance the aged look. Ohhhh.........to be at the beach right now!

Have a wonderful day!

So I lost the first round of the Emptees Tee-Off a few months ago. No hard feelings, but the topic was Sci-Fi and i did this epic full front print and i lost to a drawing of Robby the robot....yeah..i don't get it. Anyyyyyways.
Here's that design.

Well, since I've started drawing, I decided to redo it, only hand drawing and inking it in Manga Studio.
Here's some work in progress shots.

Well, things have been a bit crazy today, and I’m relieved to say that now we are finally wind

Well, things have been a bit crazy today, and I'm relieved to say that now we are finally winding down. Today was just one of those run, run, run days....and this is still our vacation! Nothing thrilling, just errands and hair cut and carting friends around and swim practice. But at least we are now done for the day, the kiddos have been fed and I can finally sit down at the computer. Aaahhhh........

So that means I can share my page for the Random Chaos challenge blog. This week's challenge is to use shaped cardstock or patterned paper anywhere on your layout. With all the great scalloped and die-cut papers out there, this was a fun and easy challenge to do.

All the patterned paper on this came from a 8x8 specialty paper pack that Making Memories made exclusively for Archivers. The colors in this pack PERFECTLY matched my daughter's funky swimsuit. I've held onto this photo for years waiting for just the right stuff. The felt alphabet is from Creative Imaginations and the letter stickers are American Crafts that I lightly inked to match. The trim is from Fancy Pants, and the buttons are Foofala. I cut the felt fishies from craft store felt and hand stitched some "waves". And lastly, there are a couple of transparency swirls from Hambly.

This picture of Nik just makes me want to sigh.

Sigh........

This was her first trip to the ocean. Look at those pudgy little legs. How come they grow up so fast?

Have a great night!

I don't script my book out in the traditional sense of the the word. Generally I do a rough page layout + script combo. This is generally illegible to anyone other than myself. This is really the only way I have found that I can write with any type of quality. I thought that I was completely useless as a writter because of this. However, I heard that both Paul Pope AND Jeff Smith write in this manner, so I feel better about myself now.

Page Rough - Done in a crappy sketchbook, usually 2 to a page.

Pencil - Done on regular Bristol Board 11x17 with a 2H pencil.

Ink - I use regular India Ink with a #2 Round Brush almost exclusively.

For me, Inking is the most tedious part but it is also the step that adds the real soul of the page. There is just something about lines from a brush that you can't get with any type of pen. Brush strokes are dynamic, organic, and alive. From beginning to end this page took me somewhere around 9 hours to draw. I am still a little slow.
