DR K.!  This is the qualifying season!  If I don't get to sectionals, there's no Nationals, and if I don't get to Nationals, there's no Worlds, and if I don't get to Worlds there are absolutely positively no Olympics.  So what did I do?  I said "Thank you for your time and opinion" and walked straight out of that stupid hospital.  Mom finally caught up to me and was beyond pissed.  I think I was pretty justified.  Maybe Dr. K. just doesn't understand that skating is my LIFE.  I told my mom I had to get to practice.  Ugh, and I'm not even looking forward to Nationals, they are in Ohio, and I dunno, Ohio seems really boring.  I guess I can't say anything, though, because I live in a ridiculously small town.  But still.  I kind-of hate Maine Medical Center at the moment and am not planning on going back there anytime soon.

To piss me off even more, a friend-who-shall-remain-nameless is suddenly in a bad mood 24/7.  I don't think she's mad at me, she's just taking it out on me and it's annoying!

Also, the OWT packet asked me if I would send a profile to a girl named Kira.  It's kind-of like a Facebook profile but a little different.  It's for their website.  I'm excited because it really means I'm part of the group now!  I'm filling it out this very moment.

When visitors first arrive in Bhutan, they are usually fascinated to see that almost everyone here wears the national dress.

The impression you get is that of an exceptional place, rich in tradition and unified through a particular kind of clothing not worn anywhere else in the world.

But there are two sides to the coin.

The Bhutanese don’t wear their national dress totally out of their own free will. If they could, most of them would also put on jeans and t-shirts.

Especially the kids would much prefer to look just like everyone else in this world.

But there are laws in Bhutan stating that the people have to wear the national dress when they are in school or in a shop, on formal occasions and when they are in any kind of government office or institution.

Some government offices will not serve natives who are not properly dressed. And policemen will reprimand or fine Bhutanese who are wearing western clothing in the streets.

The only time these rules seem to be more relaxed is in the evenings, after government offices and public institutions have closed, and on weekends.

When you walk through Bhutan's capital Thimphu after sunset or on a Sunday, you’ll only see very few men wearing the traditional gho and very few women dressed in the kira.

Instead, the people then prefer exactly the same outfits that people in the rest of the world like to wear: jeans, t-shirts and sneakers.

This is especially true for the young Bhutanese.

I have visited Bhutan three times over the past four years and it’s my impression that the popularity of western clothing is increasing.

I can’t remember seeing this many teenagers in western clothes in the evenings and on weekends before.

I guess this is due to increased exposure to Western culture in the form of movies, tourists and TV. After all, Bhutan didn't even have television ten years ago.

Who knows how much longer the authorities will be able to uphold the rules promoting the national dress if this is not what the (younger) people want?

Como podemos trocar os rostos dos Nendoroids, são muitas as cituaçãoes que podem ser encenadas, essa é apenas uma das que já passou pela minha cabeça. ^_^

L não foi colado a base como o Kira. L é colado apenas a cadeira com fita dupla-face para não cair, e colocado na base do Light. No começo tive muita pena de fazer isso, mas depois me concientizei que era o melhor a fazer e ainda estaria fazendo uma peça considerada única.

Obwohl wir unser Shooting im September dann doch kürzer als erwartet ausfallen ließen, schlug sich Kira mehr als tapfer. Da hoffe ich doch, dass zumindest ein paar der Bilder sie entschädigen werden...

Qué menos que comenzar este repaso por el que lanzó el género a la fama: LUPIN III. Su protagonista homónimo era ni más ni menos que el nieto de Arsène Lupin, ladrón de guante blanco creado por el novelista francés Maurice Leblanc, que vendría a ser una versión antagónica y equivalente de Sherlock Holmes para la literatura francesa (Arthur Conan Doyle desarrolló el personaje en la misma época). Como no, en el manga veíamos como Lupin III viajaba por el mundo robando todo lo que podía con su banda, compuesta por el pistolero Daisuke, el samurai Goemon (descendiente de Ishikawa Goemon, un Robin Hood japonés en su versión ninja) y la ladrona Fujiko.

La contrapartida la ponía el inspector Zenigata, cuya máxima aspiración era capturar a Lupin (o más bien perseguirlo, llegando a alegrarse de sus fugas porque significaban que su juego de gato y ratón podía continuar). Lo más destacado de la serie era su sentido del humor y su dibujo americanizado, que recordaba a los autores de novela negra de los USA.

En 1994 aparece Detective Conan, la historia del investigador de 17 años Shinichi Kudo que, debido a la ingestión de una extraña droga preparada para matarle, se convierte en un niño de 7 años con todas sus facultades mentales intactas. Tras este incidente y gracias a la ayuda del profesor Agasa (científico multiusos generador de patentes), crea un grupo de detectives bajo la identidad de Conan Edogawa junto a sus nuevos compañeros de clase Ayumi, Gente y Mitsuhiko con la esperanza de encontrar pistas que lo conduzcan a encontrar a una cura.

A partir de este planteamiento, asistimos a un desarrollo de capítulo-caso cerrado al más puro estilo de Sherlock Holmes en el que se irá acercando cada vez más a la misteriosa organización que está detrás de la fabricación de la droga.

Y por último, el más reciente: Death Note. Con un planteamiento más que original, nos cuenta la historia del Shinigami (dios japonés de la muerte) Ryuk y el humano Light Yagami.

Su relación comienza cuando Ryuk, aburrido del mundo de los Shinigami en el que vive, deja caer su Death Note (una libreta con el poder de matar a una persona con tan sólo escribir en ella su nombre e imaginar su rostro) en el mundo de los humanos. Light, uno de los mejores estudiantes de Japón, encuentra la Death Note y se marca el propósito de limpiar al mundo de criminales, aplicando un concepto de justicia absoluta en el que todo aquel que albergue maldad deberá morir y adoptando el sobrenombre de Kira para firmar sus asesinatos.

A su vez se nos presenta como contrapartida a L, el proclamado mejor detective del mundo, que colaborará desde el anonimato con la policía japonesa para atrapar a Kira y detener así el flujo incesante de muertos. El duelo entre ambos personajes es memorable, siendo imprescindible tener toda tu atención en cada viñeta para no perderte en los complicados juegos mentales de los dos protagonistas, que comenzarán una relación de admiración-odio que los llevará a protagonizar escenas e intrigas propias de la mejor novela de detectives.

La historia tiene su continuación en el mundo de los videojuegos, la novela y el cine, con dos adaptaciones hasta la fecha que cambian sustancialmente el desarrollo de la historia y el final de la misma, volcándose principalmente en el personaje de L.

PD: A pesar de tratarse de una entrada sobre manga, he preferido acompañar cada serie con un vídeo de su correspondiente adaptación al anime, para que aquellos que no las conozcan o nunca las hayan visto puedan hacerse una idea y animarse a leerlas.

This is the fabulous package I received this week:

2 skeins of the softest Debbie Bliss yarn to go with the brand new Debbie Bliss magazine! What fun. And the colour is divine -- not that I could get a picture of it in our rainy West Coast weather.

She included so many great little extras - lovely candles, a handy notepad, funny kleenex (when did you think you'd hear that?), a mini potted daisy to grow.  And my favourite: new linens for my new kitchen! So thoughtful.

They arrived at just the right time - our leaves are changing colour and falling to the forest floor - and now I have Fall pot holders and centrepiece/table runner. I love reflecting the season in my home. (now to do that!)

I also received the latest installment of the 7 Deadly Spins -- such fun! 

It comes at a great time -I keep thinking I want to try my hand at lace. Annnnd I've even bought lace weight and a pattern or two, but...now it's Socktoberfest! Honestly. I need to find a way to quit my workaday world and knit full time. Maybe then I would get half of the knit plans I have, done. Or at least cast on.

Granted, I only returned to it this Weds. and my was it hard to knit through the last 4 episodes of Damages! Egads! If you haven't seen it yet - go. get. it. Today!

I might have to finish the toe with some co-ordinating colour since I seem to be running low...and have 1/3rd of the foot body to go still. Look for a Socktoberfest post soon!

Apesar de não gostar muito de verão, e nem me sentir muito inspirada com as roupas da estação, assumo e confesso que adorei várias tendências que estão por vir.

The deliciously red apples were looming on a tree at the river. Eve picked some for us and we bit and chewed and chatted and strolled and laughed and without really noticing, crossed the bridge to Austria. It seems that we sometimes don't notice big things. Like when Dylan proposed to me without any of us noticing. Innocent as we had been though, our Fall from Paradise ended softly. We saw that we were still dressed, which was good. No snakes around either, not yet, instead we were welcomed by a hearth, beautiful Slovakian fujaras, inspiring family stories and a lot of human warmth in Sandra and David's heavenly cottage near Oberndorf.

Austria then, we moved beyond intelligibility. "Silent Night" was composed in Oberndorf. What an omen.

The mountains in the distance are whispering of wooden house facades and Lederhosen, of Grazian off-scene culture and Viennese glamour, of Kernöl and Mozartkugeln... and of all the countries beyond.

Until I am hooked up, I will remain a sporadic blogger & visitor and I am sorry about that.
