Some serious advertising space here. A company in Dubai just announced that they are building a 33 story LED billboard, the largest in the world. The article says it will be visible from a mile away, but that seems like a serious understatement for a 33 story building. Even more interesting is that the construction makes the LED sign invisible to the people inside the building looking out their windows.

I saw this spot a while ago but thought it was definitely worth posting. The great thing about the world of James Bond is that it acts as a playground for all types of badass machismo subject matter. You can have a half naked woman with a monocle kissing the hero while he's shooting 5 people off a helicopter from his vintage Aston Martin at 150 mph...while drinking a martini and it is tottaly acceptable. Buck took advantage of the surealness of that world with their new Coke Zero (...Zero Seven) commercial. Influenced by many of the previous opening title sequences of the Bond franchise, this spot dispenses all of the iconic imagery we love but also provides a lush and "refreshing" new look at our favorite badass. Coke still sucks though... and I recently heard it lowers your sperm so...

Speaking of the future, I will be getting a MAC pretty soon..  We'll the beginning of next year.  This is why it's important I try to soak in as much information that I can with the small time I have in class now.  So when I have my own hands on MAC at home, I'll already know what I'm capable of doing.

2nd - Final Cut Pro

For this class it's very frustrating for me.  I've been working with Adobe Premiere for so long that I've learned and gained enough experience to say "I'm an editor".  But since this is a Final Cut Pro class not only are we learning the program (which isn't so bad) but the teacher is trying to explain the methods and how things should be edited.  It's frustrating because I don't think anybody can really understand what she is talking about unless they get hands on experience.  And that's what I feel that I have.

This was our first project in Final Cut Pro.  She allowed us to do anything we wanted to created.  I originally was going to make a mini-documentary but I had a problem uploading HD Footage on the computers at school and once I finally did, I figured out I had bad audio!  So, I had to come up with something quick.  I decided to create a ringtone commercial with footage I had already rendered onto my external hard drive.  I know this video doesn't really "flow" but again, I was trying to experience and try different things in each scene.

3rd - Motion Graphics

At first I thought I was going to hate this class but it turns out it's my favorite class.  There's so many things I can do in Motion, it's similar to After Effects.  I know that what I've created isn't the best thing anyones ever seen but this is what I've done in about 2-3 weeks worth of time (about 12 hours of school time).  I can't even imagine the things I could create if I was working in this program at home on my own MAC (I can't wait for that day to come).

Anyways, our assignment was to create 3 "Templates".  In other words, create motion graphics and layout a basic format so in the future others could use these "Templates" and simply replace the videos and change the text without having to re-create any of the motion graphics I created.  I first made a "video intro" for a "T.V. Show".  Second I made another "video intro" with Halloween content.  Once again any of the text can be changed and the videos can be replaced through "drop zones" I created, so somebody could use that template for possibly an event video or some type of intro.  Third I made a DVD Menu..  A lot of people were creating these but our last project in this class is already to make 3 of these so I thought I'd only make one this time around while I experimented with "video intro's".  Oh yeah none of these templates originally had sound I added them on youtube to make them more interesting, so if it's "off beat" it's not a mistake on my part.

This class is really laid back for me since I've been working with Premiere for a while now.  I have it every Monday and Wednesday morning so I also use the class time to touch up other projects because I've found myself completing these videos very quickly.  They're very simple but so far this class is very basic.. considering the majority of these students are beginners.  The "Reel" I posted above was for my second project in this class that we are working on but I might recreate something else because I'm not satisfied with it and I have to the 16th of October to finish it.  The video below is the first project we did in this class and I used pictures to introduce myself.  Once again this is a basic level class so our assignment was simply to try to move text, images, and create transitions.. Here it is:

So.. that's that..  Once again I'm not to "proud" of these videos I'm just trying to experiment and try things I haven't done before in editing/motion graphics.  Next I am open to creating anything again for my Final Cut Pro class.  For my Motion Graphics class I will be re-creating a news piece, trying to make it look similar to the one provided to us.  And I also might be starting over on my 2nd Adobe Premiere project and not turning in the "Reel" I had originally created.  After that I will be onto the next project for that class which will actually deal with video and green screen.  A lot more to do and learn...  I just can't wait till I'm "THERE".  But it seems I'm never satisfied or content with the level that I'm at..  I don't know if that's a bad thing or a good thing that I constantly want to grow at what I enjoy doing?

I know: it's an oldy but still one of the best music video's out there ...

I've always been a big fan of Shilo, I bought their monograph some time ago and it has a pretty interesting compilation of their works. You should also check out their We Make It Good blog and their site. Very impressive.

When I was completing the color test a window was directly behind my monitor while I was sitting under florescent lighting looking at the screen.  Natural sunlight is at such a high intensity much higher than bulb lighting and our sense of color perceives that intensity as blue, the lower intensity light, indoor lighting isn't as bright giving that light a more reddish hue.

I find it interesting that with blue light, higher intensity light, interfering with my perception from behind the monitor, made it harder to see the tiny nuances of difference in the color test at the blue range.  Doing the test again in a controlled lighting environment made the sense keen and I made a perfect score.

A side-note is that because electromagnetic waves are all around us, only a small range of these waves being visible light, there is much more affecting our perception than meets the eye.

EM radiation carries energy and momentum, which may be imparted when it interacts with matter.

Our world is so much more subtle than we are daily able to pay attention to, and it is always in flux.  Color theory is still not pure.  The problem arises because the absorption of light by material substances follows different rules from the perception of light by the eye. A major issue for designers of print is that the printing process requiring ink and a subtractive process gives material substance to a color while our eye perceives the direct wavelengths causing color perception.

Many historical “color theorists” have assumed that three “pure” primary colors can mix all possible colors, and that any failure of specific paints or inks to match this ideal performance is due to the impurity or imperfection of the colorants. In reality, only imaginary “primary colors” used in colorimetry can "mix" or quantify all visible (perceptually possible) colors; but to do this the colors are defined as lying outside the range of visible colors: they cannot be seen. Any three real “primary” colors of light, paint or ink can mix only a limited range of colors, called a gamut, which is always smaller (contains fewer colors) than the full range of colors humans can perceive.

So does an artist, the human element, give a work of art, design, or even a photograph that personal touch just by a different mood, a different lighting scenario....  a perception of color... a sense?  Of course, and the texture of our differences is stunningly beautiful.

Premiere CS4

• Soporte para nuevos formatos de cámaras de grabación sin cinta incluyendo el formato P2 de Panasonic y los formatos XDCAM y AVHCD de Sony. Ahora ya es posible importar directamente estos ficheros sin necesidad de módulos externos.
• Captura directa a través de On Location. Ahora el software de Captura por defecto de Premiere es On Location, de esta forma se aumentan enormemente las opciones decaptura y se aumentan las posibilidades de capturar de forma eficaz y precisa
• La exportación y codificación de películas se hace a través de Adobe Media Encoder, un programa independiente que permite liberar a Premiere para seguir editando mientras se realiza de fondo la tarea de render.
• Incorpora el sistema de transcripción de locuciones que permite el reconocer el contenido de las voces de un vídeo y convertirlas en texto que queda adherido al clip de vídeo como parte de los metadatos. De este modo será mucho más fácil localizar vídeos donde aparece un término o una palabra de terminada
• Mayor integración con Encore que se convierte de facto en el editor de carátulas de DVD y Blu Ray estándar de Premiere. En el caso de la estampación de Blu Ray se incluyen mejoras como la posibilidad de incluir subtítulos , menús desplegables etc. Encore permite a su vez crear toda la autoría en formato SWF para trasladarla directamente a la web.
• Importación y exportación directa de FLV y de F4V (Flash vídeo de alta definición basado en el codec H-264)

After Effects CS4

• Importación nativa de las capas 3D de Photoshop, que ahora pueden animarse en 3D directamente en After Effects con la misma facilidad que el resto de objetos.
• Un nuevo sistema de búsqueda permite encontrar en el acto cualquier elemento, efecto o medio que se quiera utilizar en el proyecto.
• Gracias al nuevo formato XFL es posible exportar a Flash toda una composición conservando todos los objetos y las capas del documento
• El nuevo efecto Cartoon, convierte cualquier clip de vídeo en una animación tipo dibujos animados
• Importación y exportación de proyectos de Adobe Premiere, lo que, junto a las mejoras de Dynamic link entre SoundBooth, Premiere, After Effects y Encore, simplifica al máximo el flujo de trabajo entre las aplicaciones de vídeo.

• Un nuevo formato de archivo, el Adobe Sound (ASND), permite compartir los documentos de SoundBooth de forma nativa con Premiere, Flash o After Effects.
• La nueva herramienta de corrección de volumen automática permite igualar y/o equilibrar el volumen entre las diferentes partes de distintos ficheros de sonido que deben reproducirse simultáneamente.
• Previsualización (¿o deberíamos decir pre-audición?) de los efectos de la compresión MP3 sobre un archivo de audio antes de exportarlo lo que ayuda a ajustar mejor y de forma más intuitiva la calidad del sonido final
• Transcripción a texto automática de un sonido que además luego pasa a formar parte de los metadatos del archivo de sonido.
• Herramienta de creación de bucles mejorada

Bueno, esto no ha sido más que un avance. En breve podréis descargaros las versiones de evaluación de la web de Adobe para que vosotros mismos podáis comprobar las prestaciones que os comento.
