ASOCIACIÓN MONTAÑESA PARA LA CULTURA Y EL OCIO.

Lee Marvin borracho a todas horas, Clint Eastwood en el papel de El Socio (sólo conocemos su nombre al final de la cinta y ni su esposa le llama así) y los dos en un musical ambientado en el oeste de la fiebre del oro. Por una vez los señores encargados de poner nombres creativos a las películas extranjeras estuvieron bastante acertados y nombraron a la historia como "La leyenda de la ciudad sin nombre". Teniendo en cuenta que la acción se desarrolla en "No name city" no podemos quejarnos tampoco.

La base argumental reside en el hecho de que El Socio y Ben (Marvin) se plantean que el sitio donde más oro hay en toda la región es el Saloon, donde los hombres apuestan llevando sus sacos de oro, los cuales son derramados poco a poco sobre el suelo de tablas, por lo que deciden montar un sistema de túneles bajo la ciudad para poder "recaudar" todo este preciado metal de manera oculta al resto de conciudadanos. Creo que la película está basada en un musical teatral y como tal, aparecen ciertos momentos de canto durante la historia, los cuales encajan envidiablemente bien en comparación con otros musicales del mismo estilo.

Una ciudad del oeste llena de mineros, un rapto de caravana llena de prostitutas que se dirigen al pueblo vecino, un matrimonio en trío, un predicador, un toro corriendo por los túneles... Vemos como se crea, se transforma y se destruye una ciudad, en estrecho símil a como se desarrolló la fiebre del oro por aquellos tiempos en el oeste profundo y como hay personas de dos tipos: aquellos que saben a donde van y aquellos que no.

It turns out to be the story of a single girl who moves from Sydney to New York to find herself

It's a one woman show

Which would be fine if she wasn't conversing with character's who you can't see!

It just made her look like a schizophrenic singing to herself and having conversations with people who don't exist

The song about speed dating made me want to plug my ears with the free Guillain chocolates we were handed at the door

I felt bad for Jolene Anderson, she'd just been in a car accident and lost a co-star

I don't want to be harsh, but the simple fact is, she didn't have the presence to carry off the show

It was a large theatre and a large concept

It just didn't work

She didn't have the experience to project her voice with enough guts and quality as the production required

A good concept that just didn't work in the real world, I think I would have enjoyed it more if the other characters had existed!

En honor a la verdad, a mi no me gustan los musicales! Odio High School Musical, aborresco Camp Rock, me chocan los 'reality' de concursantes que bailan o cantan y si acaso veo 'american idol' en cualquiera de sus ediciones es porque me mata del chiste ver la mara que llega a 'pretender cantar' o bailar o mmm... sea lo que sean que hacen, porfa, mira para que tes una idea jijiji:

A veces de verdad creo que se burlan de todos nosotros, pero creo que eso quedará como misterio sin resolver.

Se me ocurrió el post (y la denuncia pública) porque veíamos el lunes por la noche un programa que ya había escuchado mentar, pero nunca me interesó en lo más mínimo ver y se llama 'la academia', es otro de estos reality musicales, de corte mexicano, con un mmm... 'director' que sí que me la cholla para caer mal... porque se nota que se cree la última coca cola del desierto... aparte tiene ese tan mal humor que las televisoras mexicanas desarrollaron en éstos últimos tiempos (shame on them! después de tener a los inigualables como tin-tan, cantiflas, chespirito... SHAME ON THEM!!!) de querer hacer todo como teatral y bien 'caeme mal', y con unos 'jurados' que POR DIOS! dan unos consejo sy críticas taaaaaaaaan fuera de lugar y que solo ellos entienden qué quisieron decir.

La verdad me crispan mucho, por eso no los veo, pero sí que tengo que aceptar que se han de estar lucrando enormemente de la ingenuidad de mi pueblo a quienes les cobran por su simpatía por tal o cuál concursante através de mensajitos de texto con precios ultra exhorbitantes... y es peor si te pones a pensar que luego te sacaran más dinero cuando ya conviertan en 'artistas' a esos participantes que pobrecitos.. como juegan con sus sueños =(

Pero bueno.. quizá ese sea el precio de la fama, creo que nunca lo sabré! (aunque no hay que escupir par arriba.

Por otra parte, sí me gustaría ver un musical de Broadway, no se si me gustara, pero sí quisiera ver uno y disfrutarlo aunque jamás volviera. Ese deseo me nació cuando ví una película que se llama 'The Producers' que es un musical sobre un supuesto productor de musicales que está cerca de la quiebra y conoce a un contador que le da una fabulosa idea de hacer un musical malísimo para quedarse con todo el capital que puedan recolectar y así consiguen a un director gay y una obra malísima hecha por un nazy loco con una coestrella belga de lo más extraña y terminan haciendo un obra sobre la 'primavera de hitler'... 8-) o seaaaaaa!! jajaj matado!

Para mi las mejores partes son:

張鈞甯、楊祐寧、陳柏霖、蘇打綠主演的音樂劇《向左走向右走》正如火如荼的在南港101彩排，而４日女主角張鈞甯生日，剛好其他演員也是處女座，乾脆昨天一起慶生，音樂總監陳建騏還為壽星準備腳底按摩券當禮物，希望眾演員能順利「走」出一片天！

由於《向》劇要搬上巨蛋舞台，一場有6000座位，演員都背負票房壓力，全都化身超級業務員猛催票。蘇打綠主唱青峰狂發電子郵件，目前以累積總金額80萬元領先，但楊祐寧靠著當兵時軍中兄弟幫忙，狂銷300張票，在票數上領先。

Le Stade Français en sera-t-il réduit à se contenter de ces petits succès, notamment contre des promus? Il est clair que le club quatre fois champion depuis 2000 n'est plus la locomotive qu'il a pu être. C'est désormais un simple wagon du Top 14, derrière Clermont et Toulouse.

In pratica, pur avendo vinto quattro volte il campionato dal 2000, lo Stade non sarebbe più la Locomotiva in grado di trainare il gruppo come una volta, ma solo un vagone in coda a Clermont e Tolosa.

Il paragone potrà essere sconfortante per molti, ma non per chi sono anni (una ventina ormai) che continua a ripetere che Freight is Great... i vagoni merci sono grandi!
Chi conosce il musical Starlight Express, uno dei tanti figli di Andrew Lloyd Webber, sa benissimo che senza vagoni merci o carrozze passeggeri, una locomotiva non varrebbe nulla (sempre che dietro non si trovi un caboose a caso... allora sarebbe, probabilmente, solo un cumulo di rottami fumanti)... quindi, declassare il povero Stade ad un vagone, non ottiene con noi il risultato voluto, anzi!

Ma, tornando a noi... si avvicina l'incontro con il Perpignan e i catalani segnalano con stile la cosa.

Lo Stade ha comunicato la formazione e, con il ritorno sulla pelouse di Hernandez e Beauxis, Mirco è stato messo a riposo.
Di sicuro andrà con il gruppo, visto che sembra che restino sulla costa sud fino all'incontro successivo con il Tolone, ma non sarà neppure in panchina. Altrettanto sicuro che le cinque terze linee convocate cercheranno di sopprimersi a vicenda pur di entrare in campo.

These aren't insults. They're song titles from the new film "Hamlet 2."

The movie follows an eternally optimistic but marginally talented high school drama teacher as he mounts an ambitious musical sequel to "Hamlet" that he hopes will save the school's drama department. The irreverent songs come as choreographed musical numbers in the student production, which closes the film.

Director Andrew Fleming, a self-proclaimed lover of musicals, co-wrote the flick and its titillating tunes with "South Park" writer-producer Pam Brady.

"Because I'd never written songs before, we didn't know what the rules were," said Fleming, whose previous credits include "Nancy Drew" and "Dick." "We didn't know you shouldn't write about the tasteless things going around in your head."

Brady got some experience with silly songs when she worked on "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" and "Team America: World Police," but that was "just a few lyrics," she said. "I had never really written a full thing."

Fleming and Brady spent five years writing the "Hamlet 2" screenplay. The songs came in a rush just before filming began.

"It was like an accidental panic craziness," Fleming said.

Though the songs' titles and lyrics are kooky and crass, they are presented with complete sincerity by drama teacher Dana Marschz (Steve Coogan) and his cast of misfit students. That's what makes the otherwise acerbic songs sing, Brady said.

"This musical is coming from the mind of Dana Marschz, the teacher, and he doesn't think it's funny and he's not trying to be offensive," she said. "The joke of it is that he's so damaged and he's trying to be so honest with his feelings but he's so limited with his abilities that it ends up being completely inappropriate."

A trio of teenage girls bob their heads as they sing "Rock Me Sexy Jesus."

"He's the son of God and I think that's cool," they chirp. "But he's got a swimmer's bod like nobody do."

"Raped in the Face" is treated as a heart-wrenching confessional set to piano, xylophone and violins.

"Therapy's taken me to a better place," the actors sing. "So why do I feel like I've been raped in the face?"

The sing-along, happy 1960s vibe of "You're As Gay As the Day is Long" belies its mostly unprintable lyrics.

"You're as gay as the night is dark," the whole cast sings. "You're as gay as a unicorn park."

In crafting the songs, Fleming said he and Brady weren't aiming to offend.

"It was just what came to us naturally," he said. "It maybe came out of frustration because we had seen so many musicals and we were trying to do something that was really funny.

"I'm not pretending these songs are as good as any musical ever," he continued. "I hope people will think they're a breath of fresh air."

Coogan said the warmhearted nature of his character is what makes the play palatable.

"However mistaken he might be, he's really passionate. He's not cynical," Coogan said. "He's trying to do something. He's trying to make a difference, and that's what underpins some of the dumb stuff in it."

Suske en Wiske musical "De circusbaron" - Cultuurmarkt Antwerpen 2008

A matter of minutes ago, I finally managed to track down Act III of the fabulous 'Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog'. This little bit of internet viewing nevana is created by the one and only Joss 'Buffy' Whedon, and the official site can be found at http://www.drhorrible.com/, but I missed i when I could watch Acts II and III for free and had to youtube it. I guess the closest thing of Whedon's other work that it can be compared to is that fantastic musical episode of Buffy. The one where they all suddenly break into dances and heartfelt musical numbers, as if you could get such a thing mixed up with another episode. It's a rather tongue-in-cheek tale of a wannabe evil genius (Horrible), fawning over a sweet innocent girl of a love interest (Penny), and his campaign against his arch-nemesis, Captain Hammer.

I love how Whedon portrays geeks (although Dr. Horrible isn't quite as much as a nerd as Jonathan, Warren and...that other one), and he should really think about doing more musicals in such a tone, they're so much fun!

In today's film news, Guillermo del Toro has signed up with Universal to make them 4 films (all based on novels). After he's all done with a little film called The Hobbit, mind you, which looks set to take up the next 4 years or so. But all the same, GDT is GDT, and two of the films he's set to direct are Frankenstien and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. How cool is that?! It's perfect GDT territory, and I'm sure he'd be able to do so a fantastic job on both.

The other two is an adaption of Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five, which I haven't read, but is some sort of WWII/Sci-fi thing...I'm intrieged... and the other is a book by Dan Simmons that has yet to be released named 'Drood' about the last, dark days of Charles Dickens, that mixes fact and fiction together. 

I really love del Toro. If you haven't watched Pan's Labyrinth, go do it now.

Why are you still here? GO!

And for everyone that has seen it, well done, you are worthy. And this completes today's film-related geek out.

ILORIN, Nigeria, September 2 (Compass Direct News) – Muslim extremists on Sunday (Aug. 31) set ablaze a church building in the Baboko area of this city in central Nigeria’s Kwara state.

The Rev. Samuel Ogowole told Compass that the extremists barred members of his Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) from getting to the building on Sunday, and the Town Planning Development Authority had sealed off the premises following pressure from area Muslims. The congregation had gone to a site on the outskirts of the city for worship when the Muslim extremists destroyed the church building, a 20 million naira (US$170,575) structure built four years ago.

Rev. Ogowole told Compass that area Muslims had complained that the church building is located near a mosque. Compass found that the church building was 500 meters from the Baboko mosque.

Muslim leaders had filed a complaint with an interfaith panel called the Inter-Religious Committee, established by the Kwara state government to mediate Muslim-Christian conflicts. Rev. Ogowole said the body initially ruled against the Islamists’ claim, but under Muslim pressure later issued a second resolution ordering the church to relocate.

“The Inter-Religious committee after investigating the issue explained that it is not true that our church is close to the mosque, and as such there is no justification of the claims of the Muslims,” he said. “But the Muslims still have not allowed us to worship here in peace.”

To appease the Muslim community, Rev. Ogowole said, the Kwara state government offered church leaders 3 million naira (US$25,580) and ordered the congregation to relocate. Church leaders rejected the order, saying they had spent nearly seven times that much to construct the church building.

Muslims had objected to the church building soon after construction began in 2001 on property that the church had legally purchased. Rev. Ogowole told Compass that Muslims initially applied pressure on town planning authorities in 2005.

“This ultimately resulted in a relocation notice, asking us to relocate the church out of the area in seven days,” he said. “However, we objected to the relocation order. Our position was that relocating to another place would mean creating hardship for our members here, who would have to travel many kilometers in order to worship.”

The Rev. Cornelius Fawenu, secretary of the Kwara state chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), told reporters yesterday that a review of the inter-religious committee’s ruling is under discussion by panel members and leaders of CAN and the church.

“Both CAN and the church are currently dialoguing on the review of the final resolution with the committee on the matter, all in the interest of equity, justice and fairness, even though the committee had earlier resolved in favor of the church before the twist of events necessitated a second resolution, which we have since appealed against,” Rev. Fawenu said.

The building had been constructed with approval from the Kwara state government, which issued a right of occupancy certificate to the church. Compass obtained property documents from church leaders showing the legality of the building: the certificate of right of occupancy, an Environmental Impact Assessment report, town planning approval and certification and land rental fees that to date were all paid.

Second Attack

Sunday marked the second time that Muslim fanatics attacked the church. On June 16, they broke into the church sanctuary, destroying musical instruments, burning pews and pulling down part of a fence around the premises.

The fanatics also wrote Islamic inscriptions on the church gate. Rev. Ogowole told Compass church leaders reported the incident to the police.

“A bag containing Islamic items was recovered by the police the following morning in the church premises,” he said.

Originally the church was planted in 1993 in the Surulere area of Ilorin. It had 300 members, including three pastors and three evangelists, before its building in the Baboko area was destroyed. The construction of the church building began in 2001, with worship services beginning in 2004.

Rev. Fawenu of CAN confirmed the manner in which the church building was burned and said leaders of the association opposed the relocation order on the grounds that it “amounts to persecuting the members of that church.”

Speaking to reporters yesterday, Rev. Fawenu said he hopes the state government will intervene to prosecute the arsonists.

“If this matter is not addressed and the perpetrators of this sacrilegious act made to account for their sin and the concerned church adequately compensated, we will not be left with any other option than to believe that Kwara state is a state whereby everybody is at liberty to visit their fellow human beings with jungle justice,” he said.

Leaders of the Muslim community in Baboko declined to speak on the issue. A Kwara state spokesperson said officials would comment on the destruction of the church only after an investigation.

Tras su exitoso estreno en Oviedo, el musical de Mortadelo y Filemón "El fantoche de la opereta"  llegó a Barcelona este martes 2 de Septiembre. Concretamente al Teatro Tivoli, donde el musical será interpretado hasta el 21 de Septiembre. Las críticas de los asistentes han sido muy buenas tal y como no cuentan Blanca y Leyenda, por lo que os animo a disfrutar de esta aventura de Mortadelo y Filemon. Además, existe una promoción en internet para comprar las entradas del musical Mortadelo y Filemon para funciones hasta el 14 de Septiembre a mitad de precio! que mas se puede pedir?

I am not sure why it is that most political theatre seems self-congratulatory and naive. I mean, it works so well in all the theatres: theatre revealing truths about social structure, theatre building community and solidarity, theatre urging us toward either critical thinking or radical action, pick your theory, really. Even with the best intentions, however, theatre seems to be at best a venue for preaching to the converted - and I emphasize at best. The current production of Hair by the Public Theatre in Central Park is seemlessly professional, artistically flawless (besides the over-amplification, my ears still hurt) and outspokenly political. However, it still seems like a mindless distraction which merely reconfirms its audience in their professed liberalism.

Of course, it's an anti-war musical, and of course it ends with the hero, in uniform, lying dead on the American flag. And then the lights go down, and the audience is invited to come to the stage and BOOGY!? Thanks for the catharsis! I suppose dance can be a form of protest, but I'm not sure this qualifies. I think the conversations had while waiting in line for five hours to get (free) tickets were much more politically productive, at least in my part of the line. Of course once the show is transferred to Broadway on a $110 ticket, even that aspect will disappear.

The greatest irony was that the pre-show speech combined the task of marking the political relevance of the musical (ie reminding the audience that there's a war going on) with that of thanking Bank of America for its kind sponsorship: Hosannah Rockefeller!

This one of the near perfect movies I have seen for a while. The movie is simple and never once in my life I thought I would like a musical. The movie is about 2 hours and around 1.45 hours of music. Another attractive stuff in the movie is all songs are performed by the lead pair. Both of them are musicians.

The movie doesn't boast a big story line, hmmmm I cant say that it has gonot  story line but the credit should go to the director for presenting it in a way no other director has ever dared to. The movie is devoid of dialogues. Another interesting stuff about the movie is the name of the hero and heroine never comes up in the movies. The Credit gives them name Guy and Gal. 

This is not a movie to watch with friends or kind of movie to see when u have other things to do. This is movie which would be highly appreciated if you watch it alone and really relaxed. 

This movie also won the Oscars for best original song for the year 2007.

I can assure you that you will end up watching this movie again and again for a while. If I had to give it marks out of 10, I would give it a 10.

3- Irresistível Paixão (Out of Sight)

Filme policial sexy e classudo que deixa claro o porquê Soderbergh é um dos cineastas mais sofisticados da atualidade, nem a J.Lo conseguiu estragar este filme, talvez George Clooney de cueca samba-canção compense qualquer coisa.

4- Três é Demais (Rushmore)E nasce Jason Schwartzman. Além de fazer com que Wes Anderson vire diretor cult neste seu segundo longa, revitaliza a carreira do Bill Murray passando a tocha para seu pupilo cômico mais brilhante que nunca chegou mesmo a ser conhecido como filho-da-Talia-Shire-sobrinho-do-Coppola.

5- Velvet GoldmineMeyers é Bowie, McGregor é Iggy, Bale é todo mundo. Mais uma biografia artística de Haynes, muito glitter, sexo, drogas e rock and roll.

Real melhor filme do ano: Pi (π)

Despite a day of work frustrations there was a very funny moment:we finally re-cast the leading role for the much blogged about musical; when MG called at my classroom to tell me 'He'd do it!', I squealed with delight and jumped up and down in the corridor. My Year 12 English class, peering collectively through the glass panel in the door, informed me that, 'He is much too young for you.', 'Miss- he is SEEING someone you know!': my reddening face only fuelled their typically dormant imaginations: there was a collective stunned silence when I handed him my phone number!  I almost regretted not hugging the great looking and very talented, former-Deputy Head Boy returning to his very recent Alma mater to do us all a huge favour.

I have a recommendation to make, so this post shouldn't be completely wasted; it concerns a French adaptation of Victor Hugo's "Notre-Dame de Paris", turned into a musical first performed in 1998, in Paris. I don't find it brilliant, I consider the female characters rather weak, the orchestration is elementary and gives an overall feeling of simplicity. But it has an impact through the masculine voices, massive set and suggestive choreography. The Romanian try of grandeur with the musical "Chicago" was too shy compared to this.
