Beim Luxus-Online-Modeshop Net-a-porter gibt es Neues: Da gibt es ganz wilde Kreationen von Alexander McQueen und Rue De Mail. Mein Herz schlägt allerdings für dieses Abendkleid von Oscar de la Renta. Es ist mit goldenem Laub besetzt und bestickt. Kostet 9469 Euro und ich wandere einfach mal in die Sparte Sale.

I really want to buy a pair of ankle boots this year since I have been missing out on them for a while. I wanted them last year but nooo. And doesn't that sweater look so warm and comfy? I wish the weather was cool out! The weather sucks!

But for those of us with smaller budgets, we go to Old Navy sales. Yesterday I bought a pair of dark wash jeans, a medium wash jean (both bootcut and the sweetheart rise), a boatneck navy and tan striped shirt, a tan cardgan, and gold gladiators. So I'm a happy girl. Speaking of gladiators, I want pair of those black and white ones Rihanna wore the other day. Everyone thought they were ugly, but I loved 'em.

P.S. I really love how someone found my blog by googling "Ryan Lochte ass" Haha, oh boy.

There's so many gorgeous ball dresses and evening dresses out there it's hard to choose just one. I wish we had at least five balls a year just so I could wear my favourite dresses as of right now!

Isn't it just wonderful, it looks so flattering and flowy and ahhhhhh (sigh of regret that i'll never own it)

4) and 5) (it's a toss up between which comes first) These aren't exactly ball dresses as such. But are still delightfully flirty and glamourous.

Colour change: Classic or trendy?

It's interesting to see how the use of colour can change the silhouette and overall appearence of a dress. For example, the cover girl of the moment Sonam Kapoor recently inaugurated an art show wearing the 3.1 Phillip Lim Ruffle Collar Cocoon Dress, in a deep violet. The dress itself is very on-trend with the colour and ruffles around the neck, and i love the whole 60s Saira Banu meets Upper East Side/Gossip Girl look.

Alternatively Net-a-porter currently have the dress on sale in black. Now i dont know about you, but whilst the deep violet gives a very trendy look, the black seems to turn the dress into an instant LBD! Perhaps it's because the ruffles are less noticeable? or could it be because of the 'black' itself? Well whatever it is, the dress is now on sale at the fantastic price of £198 (was £495).

Ok so maybe nothing can ever actually replace the classic LBD (not that it needs or should be replaced!), but the Pigalle is certainly making a place of it's own.

The Pigalle RM by Roland Mouret was a piece noticed on the catwalk and has now been claimed to be the 'it' dress of the season. Personally i don't care for the actual status of the dress (it's fine if you do!), but i find the actual silhouette more appealing. The way it hugs and defines your body, made from 100% wool with a modern and sophisticated cut, it's perfect for the new season. Wear it to work or accessorise and add a clutch for the evening....it's definitely dress for all occasions and will look fantastic every season.

For those of you who are lucky enough to have the cash to splash, the Pigalle is now available to buy over at net-a-porter (£990)

Lovely Fall Finds

I think early fall is my favorite season, fashion-wise. You can still wear your summer clothes and just add a few accessories or tights to fall-ify the look, opt for gorgeous autumn coats and trenches, or even wear some of your winter wardrobe sans the bulk. Fall is the season of ultimate versatility!

Here are some of my favorite fall finds:

The Statement Necklace: This Roberto Cavalli Dragonfly Stone Necklace (net-a-porter) is stunning. Statement jewelry has become huge again! While minimal or lightweight jewelry is perfect for the summer, fall is the season to bring back the cocktail rings, chunky bracelets, and statement necklaces. Though most statement jewelry is unwearable or only suitable for red-carpet events (which most of us don't have the privilege of walking), this piece exudes Cavalli's signature glamour with just enough stones and sparkle without looking like you were dipped in diamonds (although that would be quite interesting).

The Statement Dress: This Arboretum Trapeze Dress by Tibi has such a wonderful print! The vibrant pattern of trees in bright eggplant, gold, and brown against black allow the colors to pop without being overwhelming. The neckline is perfect - not too conservative, and not too low-cut, and the sleeves are simply divine! The light fabric allows for the long, balloon-sleeves to look airy, not heavy. A pair of black, opaque tights and either a black or fuscia (to match the bold color of the dress) patent oversized clutch should finish the look. The versatility of the dress is wonderful; wear it with black flats for the day, and a pair of heels or ankle booties for night!

The Day Dress: I love cornflower blue; it's pretty and elegant. Yes, I know fall '08 is all about colors reflecting the fall foliage, but when this silk Piccoli dress by Paul & Joe is paired with, once again, black, opaque tights, it is perfect for a day out. I love the deep V-neck; it shows some skin in this otherwise completely covered outfit. The balloon sleeves add elegance and movement to the dress (by now you could probably tell that I am a huge fan of those kind of sleeves). Finish the ensemble with a black clutch and patent black booties!

The Oversized Black Clutch: Besides the fact that I love Bottega Veneta's classic woven leather, a black clutch is necessary for fall. And by necessary, I mean it is a must. Small clutches are for cocktail parties or evening outings, but oversized ones serve as bags that are chic yet still hold everything. I love the Intrecciato Pyramid clutch; the weave is organic, yet the leather makes it luxurious. I know this one's a bit bland, but it's a classic piece (any Bottega Veneta bag) worth investment that will prove timeless.

The Shift, & Black Tights: Both the neutral colored shift dress and the black tights are essentials for every fall season, classics that should reserve a spot in every wardrobe. This Tibi Kensington Shift in eggshell has a clean look. Add contrasting tights in black, patent ankle booties, and a black clutch (preferably patent) and you'll look effortlessly chic for the fall! For a Parisian-chic air, throw on a black beret. Not only would a black hat solve any bad hair day issues, but it would finish the outfit, but would tie in the bottom half of your outfit (all-black) to the top. For colder days, tie a wool scarf (in black, please) for a chic solution...make sure it isn't too bulky!

Fall Essentials: Necessities to Make an Outfit Impeccably Fashionable...

Black Ankle Booties (patent, suede, leather)
Black Opaque Tights
Oversized Day Clutch (clutches in darker colors would be more versatile in regards to outfit coordination)
Patent Tote, preferably in a vibrant color!
Skinny Belt (cinch those waists! Tie a belt on over a cardigan; it's one of the trends for fall '08

If you've bared with me since the early days of this blog, I've rarely plugged myself in other media besides Gloss Magazine, probably because I'm perhaps a little too modest to mention. I've been contacted by an array of people including budding new designers (local and national), writing for fashion companies, invited to fashion events and even (heartbreakingly) missed an opportunity to be interviewed by the BBC....THE BBC. Yes, I had to kick my own behind for missing out on that one.

I find this is such an exciting time to write for a fashion webzine or blog as they are gaining more and more media attention from, well, traditional and online media. That somehow, in this huge network of fashion sites, any time one of our "own" is selected to be covered by the big media groups or picked up by major sites, I find it such an honor and happy for others who get to shine and recognized for what they do.

So I just wanted to say a huge congratulations to everyone who really work in keeping the fashion buzz online alive :)

A Tip du Mode

The average American owns closetfuls of tee-shirts; the très chic Parisian owns, say, three at the most. Two of them are pajamas. I am that American with a drawerful of tees, guilty as charged. How is it that I accumulate so much when my very goal whilst shopping is to stray from them? Tee-shirts are the epitome of laziness, so says my mother (who owns one or two tees, but is still a very lazy dresser). I wouldn't go so far as to saying that, because in a nation where everyone is wearing a tee, I might just offend the entire population. Don't get me wrong; some tee-shirts are very cute and chic, and basic black, white, and whatever color you would like is necessary in every girl's wardrobe. But the thing is, tees and jeans don't look put together; it just looks rushed.

Here is my tip du mode (yes, its a mixture of French & English, in an attempt to create an interesting title), one that I think is a simple way to still wear those tees minus the lazy look. It also happens to be a style I am loving very much.

Tip du Mode 1: Pair a slightly loose & not too clingy tee-shirt with a high-waisted tailored skirt, pant, short or jeans! Tuck it in, throw on a matching cardigan or blazer, or just leave it, and you'll look fabulous! With jeans, add a belt to finish the look. And of course, put on a pair of pumps! So now, if you meet some fabulous celebrity on the street, you'll never groan about why you chose today out of all the days of the year to wear something so blah. Take Natalie Portman, for example. She pairs a red, graphic tee with tailored shorts, a blazer, pumps, and a clutch looking very elegant. Too professional for you?

Take the quirky and playful, printed face tee with rhinestone eyeshadow by Sonia by Sonia Rykiel from up top, available at n et-a-porter.com for $145. (I really can't decide if this tee is cute or just a no-no...what do you think?) With a pair of jeans, people might just ask you what you were thinking when you bought this shirt. But when you add a colorful cardigan, tuck the tee into a high-waisted, tailored black skirt, black tights, patent ankle booties, and a fab bag, you get a fun day look for a day out shopping! Voilà!

Here's another example with the "Que Sera Sera" tee by Sass & Bide, also available at net-a-porter.com for $135. Paired with this season's dirndl skirt, a white belt, colorful heels, and a great bag, it takes the tee to the next level!

Maxed Out!

No, I'm not talking about my credit cards, dear readers (thank you, stimulus check!) in today's title. I'm talking about the latest, greatest persisting trend in fashion: the maxi dress. For those of us with less-than-perfect gams, the maxi dress is a great way to stay cool and stylish without feeling self-conscious in a shorter hemline. Even if you do have a great body, the maxi dress gives off a relaxed vibe that says, "Sure, I could show off everything in a short, tight dress, but that's not my scene, man. I'm much too cool for that." All the cool kids are wearing 'em.

The key to wearing a maxi dress well, though, is fit. A giant tent-like piece of cloth will flatter no one, but buying the right style for your body type will ensure a flattering silhouette. I'm totally in love with the brown diamond print Rachel Pally version at right, from Pink Mascara. I think it's great for petite frames because the spaghetti straps and shirred waistline give definition to one's shape, while Pally's signature modal knit fabric will cling and curve in all the right places.

Anyone who's a fan of Pally knows that all this fabulousness does not come cheap. This dress will set you back $220. But be shrewd with your online shopping and you can often find her pieces at steep discounts on sites like Bluefly and Chick Downtown.

For a more economical choice, I like this halter version from Forever 21, at left. It comes in green, black, and purple and has - wait for it - pockets! Oh how I love dresses with pockets.

The back is entirely open and the halter ties at the neck, making it a great choice for the beach or any super-casual get together. The halter styling makes this ideal for athletic figures, and the solid colors are sure to create a long, flattering line.

And did I mention it's only $36? Yeah, that's pretty great, too.

And what about shoes? Well, as much as some teeny-tiny fashionistas love to pair chunky platforms with these dresses (I'm looking at you, Rachel Zoe), I'm a firm believer in wearing flats with long dresses.

The current crop of strappy gladiator sandals are a perfect complement to these long hemlines. But don't let the hemlines be too long. Anything brushing the ground should be hemmed to right at the ankle line, otherwise the look become a bit sloppy.

And finally, if I had a big ol' pot of money hanging around (or another one of those stimulus checks!) I'd be all over this maxi dress from Diane von Furstenberg. Unlike the others, it has even more coverage on the back than the front. So retro and chic!

Available on Net-a-Porter for the low, low price of only $650 (yikes!), this version is all silk and has a ultra flattering v-neck and self-fabric tie waist. I'm totally loving the vibrancy of the print, too, which would flatter so many different skin tones.

Oh, Diane, you always know what a girl wants!

I'm also personally a big fan of maxi-dress versions from INC International Concepts at Macy's and Vince's Ikat Maxi, available at Bloomingdale's. Ooh - that makes five maxis altogether...one for every day of the week! Perfect.

Guests at Jumeirah Hotels may be able to pre-order toothpaste or books for delivery before they arrive, but that won't help solve fashion emergencies that can crop up during a stay. For crises of a more sartorial sort, Net-A-Porter now offers an "emergency wardrobe service" for guests at select Soho House members' clubs/hotels.

Forgotten pair of shoes? Embarrassing stain incurred at dinner? Guests at High Road House London, Babington House Somerset and Soho House New York need fear such adversity no more. Thanks to the brand-new initiative, they can now enjoy same-day delivery of items from Net-A-Porter's exclusive online collection of designer clothes, shoes, handbags and accessories, according to Vogue.com UK. Swing tags in each room promote the service, which reportedly launched last week.

In Realms Fantastical & Strange

A little while ago, i blogged about Miu Miu's 'Life as a theater' S/S 08 Collection. At the time there were two particular pieces which stood out for me, known as the Lady Harlequin tops (Link). The pieces themselves are now in the sale over at Net-a-porter. But if your still looking for a little inspiration, then check them out in Bergdorf Goodman's s/s 08 magazine titled 'In Realms Fantastical & Strange'. The shoot is clearly very creative and magical, and its interesting to see how the clothes (such as the Lady Harlequin) collaborate with the background settings of Lord of the Rings, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and the world of Roald Dahl.

Note: It's interesting to see that although alot of traditional iconic props have been used in the shoot.......nothing to do with the circus or theatre have been used in showcasing Miu Miu's pieces, which infact take inspiration from these things themselves. Now that's what you call letting the clothes speak for themselves!
