Lack of space in a tent may have saved an Australian climber from death when a huge chunk of ice swe

Lack of space in a tent may have saved an Australian climber from death when a huge chunk of ice swept away ropes, leaving 11 mountaineers fatally stranded on K2 in the Himalayas at the weekend.
The 11 who died near the summit of K2 - the world's second highest peak after Everest - included three South Koreans, two Nepalis, a Dutch national, a Serb, a Norwegian and a Pakistani.

Australian climber Mark Sheen was lucky to have escaped after his climb to the summit was delayed, said Michael Dunjey, a close friend who is also an experienced mountaineer.

While Mr Sheen, with the Dutch expedition Norit, was incredibly lucky to have avoided the catastrophe, the most amazing story was that of his expedition leader, Wilco van Rooijen, Mr Dunjey said.
[caption id="attachment_62" align="alignnone" width="128" caption="Wilco van Rooijen "][/caption]

Mountaineers had given up hope of any of the climbers above 8000 metres surviving more than a few days after falling ice cleared away the ropes on Friday.

"When you're above 8000 metres, you're physically dying. You can survive a maximum of 24 to 48 hours with supplementary oxygen ... it'd be less than 24 hours without.

"Wilco was up there three days and three nights, above 8000 metres, without supplementary oxygen. After a few days, everyone thought he'd died.

"Then people from base camp saw this lone figure in an orange suit coming down the mountain [on Sunday]. It's massive. You can't explain it.

"Even though Mark is the Australian in the team, this is historically the biggest story to come out of this.

"It's a pretty amazing story. He's a very lucky guy, he was way up at C4 when all this happened," Mr Dunjey said.

"C4 is the highest camp on the mountain, so it's well in the so-called 'death zone'.

"What saved [Mr Sheen] was he was actually one day behind all the climbers. Ordinarily he would have left for the summit the same day as everybody else."

Yesterday was a great day no doubt. Keith finished up his sessions and was given a huge honouring

Yesterday was a great day no doubt. Keith finished up his sessions and was given a huge honouring applause. He did an excellent job of teaching and following the leading of the Spirit. He almost got through all his notes but not quite! Ps. Anthony Shalala moved very powerfully in the Spirit last night. There was a great move of God, many people touched deeply and strongly by God... a most powerful atmosphere of change and shifting mindsets and paradigms... loved it!

My session was yesterday too and I had a great response from Indonesians and Australians alike. Was very encouraged by Jake Betlem's words and the many compliments and questions I received from others.

Made another great connection with a couple who'd like me to email-mentor them. Amos and Tierney from another church here in Jakarta are a sweet couple who are hungry and looking with faith to the future. Great to partner with you guys!

The trots continue into the 4th day with no sign of letting up. I'm downing Norit like there's no tomorrow but I haven't seen a change yet. Maybe I should have taken the standard dosage for poisoning instead which is 20 tablets! It's activated carbon and absorbs the problem matter (poisoning or bug) and releases it through your normal way. Pretty impressive but I've yet to see results.

Today is our last day here in Indonesia. We're meant to be heading out to the Compassion project run by Ps. Joshua's church but I'm not up for anything today. I'm planning on resting for the day before our long flight home tonight where I'll need to sleep. Your prayers would be much appreciated!!

Really miss my wife and kids. I can't wait to hang out with them tomorrow. It's going to be so great to be home... and well eventually too! Bring on the home straight. Cya soon everyone!

Zo sprak ie...

Zo sprak ie de waarheid en goeiemorgen.
