This isn't going to be the first time living outside of Canada for either of us: we met on our way to New Zealand with the  Student Work Abroad Program (SWAP). This time is not going to be as easy. While New Zealand wasn't Canada, it was still very familiar. Everyone spoke English, even if it was with an accent. There was cereal, rugby, ketchup, and french fries. You could go for long walks around the city, and not succumb to heat, pollution, or traffic.

Indonesia promises to be an experience of a different sort. Admittedly, we are relying on what others are telling us at this point. There seems to be a lot to be nervous about: riots, earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanos, macet, floods, and smog. To be fair, there will also be a maid, a driver, a great place to live, and lots of travel (Bali and Borobudur, among others).

Even with all of the possible problems, both of us are really looking forward to the adventure of it all. We're looking forward to trying something new and completely different, even if it comes with some growing pains (and culture shock). We'll be heading into this with our eyes open, and ready for anything. Here goes nothing!

Me contó que se vió y se acostó con su ex y me resultó francamente repugnante.

O sea... he tenido varias relaciones disfuncionales en mi vida, pero ninguna de ellas incluyó a otra mujer.  En este caso sí y no supe muy bien como manejarlo.

Como me dijo que estaba enamorado de ella, no puede menos que pensar "¿entonces cuando está conmigo qué onda? ¿soy de repuesto?".

Balbucié algunas tonterías sobre que era mejor no vernos más, que le deseaba mucha suerte, bla bla.  Incluso dije: "ya veo que me voy a terminar enamorando como una estúpida y vos ya estás enamorado de otra" o algo así.  Con la mano en el corazón, no tengo la menor idea de por qué dije esa estupidez (tengo que hablarlo con mi analista).  Realmente no siento eso.  Si bien es un chico adorable -y al principio medio me flashié, no voy a negarlo- no creo que sea una persona con la que pudiera estar "de verdad".  Es un nene, y no por su edad. 

Me parece que simplemente me sentí culpable de vivir mi sexualidad como se me plazca, sin necesidad de estar enamorada de la persona para pasarla bien.  No pude bancarme mi propio placer sin el respaldo de un enamoramiento o un compromiso.  No pude mantenerme como objeto de deseo.  No pude salir del lugar de "resto" donde él me ubicó al mencionar su preferencia por otra mujer.

Es todo muy hipócrita de mi parte porque yo fui la primera en dejar muy claro que tenía novio y que no quería ningún tipo de compromiso.  Yo misma me contradije y lo dejé a él en un lugar de privilegio, mientras yo misma salgo de la "relación" desde un lugar patético.

Realmente no me importa no verlo más, pero sí me importa mucho que fue por motivos de mi propia imposibilidad.

PostGIS does not support raster data as yet. Hopefully there should be raster support soon. Raster layers can be visualised from a local or remote server using geoserver. However having raster layers integrated into a PostGIS data base would be extremely useful for tasks such as overlaying herbarium records with continuous extrapolated climate data or elevation.

I have previously experimented with importing the points of a raster layer. This works quite well. It can be used for simple spatial overlays using proximity operations. However the visual impression produced by the points is not very satisfactory and a query using the contains operator would be more efficient.

QGIS has a plugin for graticule generation. This forms a grid of individual polygons. So if a grid is produced using the graticule plugin of QGIS and then imported into PostGIS using SPIT it is possible to partially mimic a raster layer, although with some computational overhead.

The document mnp-workshop3.pdf showed how worldclim data (http://www.worldclim.org/) can be imported into GRASS and R.

If R is run from GRASS the following lines can be used to import the appropriate raster layers at a chosen resolution into R.

Most of the lines of the script are concerned with calculations on the basic worldclim data. The dataset consists of 36 grids of monthly mean minimum temperature, maximum temperature and precipitation. Some mean annual values may be derived for simplicity.

Debut de la semaine: grosse chaleur et j'ai oublie d'apporter une bouteille d'eau avec moi. Du coup, je creve de soif, je transpire, et la en plein TP, c'est le drame. Je marche comme le Bossu de Notre-Dame qui serait entre dans le costume de Robocop. Du coup, chaque geste devient une veritable torture. Lever la tete, on oublie. Tendre le bras: idem. Se gratter la tete: ah jpeux encore. Choper un rouleau de PQ dans la reserve de Bob (deja inaccessible en temps normal): heureusement qu'il y a des magazines par terre. Je plaisante... j'ai du appeler mon amoureux pour ca. M'habiller: pas encore fait, mais je renonce deja. Journee pyjama. Aller en stage lundi: ahaha si c'est comme aujourd'hui, la bonne blague.

A part ca, on recherche toujours un appart. Je dois normalement avoir une reponse aujoud'hui, mais une fois de plus, je sens que ca ne sera pas la bonne.

It works, but as of now it ain't pretty. I also am not seeing faster model runs than when I use a virtual machine in Parallels, so I may need to test this further.

The main problem is that it's WinBUGS, not OSXinBUGS or LinBUGS, so natively I'm out of luck. All is not lost however, for some people much more clever than I have provided instructions to get WinBUGS up and running on OS X using DarWine, which is the Darwin version of Wine which is in rough terms a compatibility layer for running Windows programs on *nix.

The easiest way to get all of this up and running is to follow the excellent tutorial at http://idiom.ucsd.edu/~rlevy/winbugsonmacosx.pdf, which is how I got up and running

The next step is to get this layered version recognized by R so that I can call WinBUGS directly from R.
