For me, the answer is pretty simple - I make alts when I'm frustrated with something on one of my main characters or when I need something relatively mindless and easy that ISN'T farming.  *laughs*  Most of the time, I even hop to a new server just to check it out.  Since I've leveled at least one of each of the class/race combinations to at least Level 10, I know the starting zones and quests very well.

And I do have rules for Alt creation - I don't send Gold to an alt until that alt has dinged Level 20, I don't send mats or do enchants until Level 35 and finally, I delete the alt if it's been more than four months since I've played him/her unless the alt was created for a specific purpose (to play with a specific friend or serves as a name holder for a future character).

But.

I also find that when I hit the late teens or early twenties of leveling, I get bored and go back to whichever main I was originally frustrated with.    Currently, I've been unable to raid on my raiding main, a Level 70 Gnome Mage due to having multiple raiding players in the same house and a lack of care for both the elderly and the young during the nightly raids.  So creating alts that I can leave at anytime for any reason (if my daughter wakes up with a nightmare or my grandmother is wandering about), is a way for me to deal with that frustration.

Now, as far as server hopping goes, I enjoy checking out each server, their economies and the general progression on the server.  For example - Kilrogg-A is fairly end-game oriented with few to no pieces of low-level gear on the auction house and what little is there is insanely expensive.  Kilrogg-H isn't quite as bad - more low-level gear but the prices fluctuate more.  All this while Azuremyst-A is nicely progressed, not quite as end-game oriented and is fairly inundated with low-level gear but when you reach the mid-late forties and above, the price of gear jumps almost exponentially.

Must say my own experiences with PVE servers have been somewhat similar, I found the only realistic time to pop the PVP flag was in defense of someone else (heals and the like because I couldn't just stand there and watch) … and I found that you could expect very little backup from a lot of the same faction toons around you (oh we are too low a level to help etc etc.)

Which when I tried to go back to PVE servers retrospectively was very strange for me because some of my best memories of world PVP are incidences like the time my level 60 hunter and about seven baby hunters flushed a level 70 NE rogue who had been ganking baby toons in xroads (it was like flare city overload), or that one time some griever up at Tarren mill was literally swarmed by horde lowbies and actually died from it.

On PVE servers I have found if you are fool enough to flag … well no one will aid you… because "well son you were fool enough to flag". The solution is always "drop your flag you idiot" or "don’t attack him/her in the first place". (You can often spot a new 'usually-PVEer' in the starting areas of a PVP realm because they will say things like this over general without realizing what areas the rule actually applies to.)

Heck - I know of cases on a PVE realm where when the rumor gets out that someone is flagged (some lowbie will pipe up over defense or general about an enemy in the area) well the opposing faction literally swoops in all a-dragon-back and on mass … heh to discover some hordie simply fishing unflaged.

And I think that’s part of the key to the difference in attitude about world PVP – on a PVP server if you wander around you are flagged automatically and there is nothing to indicate whether you are trying to cause trouble or not, you're just going about your business. Now on a PVE server a flagged person can be considered trouble or at least potential trouble … like seeing some stealthed alliance druid sitting on the horde zeppelin, or a group of mounted alliance outside the gates of Orgimmar. A flagged person will also attract unto himself every gank starved griever from the opposing faction in the local area who has gotten wind of the situation – and no one will do a damn thing to help because people who flag on PVE servers are considered trouble looking for trouble, and a lot of the toons who don't flag are playing on a PVE server because they are uncomfortable with that sort of thing in the first place.

It becomes a bit of a case of "oh you got mugged? Well why were you walking down that dark alley in the first place? It's your own fault really"

Which is why I rather prefer PVP servers – aye you still lose a lot if you do get in a fight, aye its bloody annoying to have your questing interrupted by an asshat – but suddenly you are that guy who has been down the dark alley at the wrong time. You're more likely to help others in the same situation and less likely to blame them for getting into trouble and you can commiserate about being upset by it. Also everyone is involved, if there is a griever in the area it actually affects all the lowbies playing in that area, toons will communicate the danger, they pull together, sometimes guilds are contacted or 70's in the area party-up and create a kinda old west law-man posse to help out the lowbies … because we have all been there in that alley. It does add some definition to the two fractions – every alliance player you see is potential 'trouble'.

But hey that can be positive too, I mean any good interaction with the opposing faction takes a lot more trust and means a hell of a lot more to the parties involved. Like the other day I gave a little human an escort through the wetlands on my shaman alt and boy was the little human chuffed – it was cute. And yes I did get killed by some jerk of a lvl 70 paladin once I got closer to the alliance port, but I led him a damn merry chase though the swamps before he got me … and I came away with some interesting ideas about how I could have fled better. Also I have this feeling he missed the guys no emote (or thought it was at me not his shiny pally self) and thought I was harassing the baby lol. So it is hard to be too cut by it all, although I would have liked to deliver the human to the doorstep so to say … I hope the paladin took responsibility.

Heh of course it "means more" because the standard reaction in this situation would have been to bite his head off... much like the pally who hammered me to death further down the road - them be the PVP breaks.(Snort - yes… yes I was in wolf mode … the dog mentality tends to take over a little when I run around as a wolf.)

Now I am not saying there is more in the way of honorable characters or asshats on either PVE or PVP servers – just that the 'all for one attitude' that is more likely to develop on PVP servers is rather appealing to me.

There was for example this Roleplay PVE server where I once fell in with this Night Elf group that had set themselves up as the 'Guards of Astranaar'. They just hung in the area and engaged any hordies who attempted to attack that town (I hear this is common on PVE-RP servers) – of course as such it was a pretty happening area and the characters were rather RP awesome. It is what actually got me into PVP servers and Battlegrounds in the first place, before that I was strictly a PVE player.

And lastly PVP servers give the nutjobs so many targets they don't know what to do with them all - the pain my friends is shared and disbursed.

I have been thinking that I should go to other servers other than Frozen. Frozen is always full of people all there is a lot of other stuff that has been going on. The server I have been thinking is Sleet. I do not know for sure if I am going to do that so I made a poll to see what you think I should do.

If I do switch servers to Sleet I will go to Frozen sometimes. But I will make up my decision tomorrow.

I have a few thoughts and questions about the service industry. First of all I do tip, and I am not looking for excuses to stop. I just think the process has become a bit skewed and tangled from how it should be. One thing that I struggle with is tipping based purely on the total of the bill. Let’s look at the following example.

You go to an average restaurant for dinner, like say chili’s or Applebees something like that. You and your guest end up spending a total of 25 dollars for everything. Your server brings your salad, meal, and refills your drinks a total of 5 times. You tip the server 15% on the total, or about $3.75. To earn that tip the server actually worked and kept your drink full and brought everything from the kitchen personally. 15% is generally accepted to be the standard amount of tip.

Now in contrast let’s say it’s your anniversary and you go to Ruth’s Chris steakhouse for a nice once a year type dinner. You get wine and appetizers. Your server brings your wine, but someone else from the kitchen brings your salad and someone else brings your entrée. It’s actually less service performed than the other place but the bill is $100.00 and according to accepted tipping practices you should tip $15.00 on the bill. My question is why? Did the expensive place actually perform more service for you? I would say that the server in the other place did. Some people might say that expensive places share tips, and that concept does not work for me either. There are plenty of bad attitudes in the industry and someone with a bad attitude and poor work ethic gets the same as a hard working passionate worker. That seemed terribly flawed.

A tip is something that is given for service beyond what I expect. If I take a taxi ride, I know before I get in the door the pickup fee is $2.50 and then it’s like $.55 per 1/4^th mile. So if I know my destination is 20 miles away I can pretty much estimate how much the fare will be. There is a set price for a set service. Why should there be a tip involved. Most cab rides I have gone on are not pleasant experiences. The cabs smell, the drivers are rude, and they drive like crazy lunatics, then at the end of the trip I am supposed to give a tip. I don’t think so.

I blame the business owners for changing how the system works. Tips should not be an expectation under any circumstances. A good attitude, a pleasant smile and actually exceeding basic standards of the service you are performing and I will give you a little extra or a tip. If you don’t like having to rely on tips to survive because your job doesn’t pay enough on its own then don’t blame me. There are other jobs available where you can make a wage free and clear of tips. I didn’t take a job like that, and I do not bear the burden of it. So you can earn your tip or find a new job, bottom line.

First when you log in all remembered penguins are gone so you have to fill in your username and password (and click on remember my penguin & password, I you want to).

After that you'll see the servers with your and your buddies favorite servers.

But if you want to see all the servers click the yellow sign on the right.

Note: The flags are gone so you can't choose a country anymore, also all the servers are ordered alphabetically. Abominable looks like it's gonna be one of the most popular servers.

Now that you're logged in we'll talk about Penguin Mail. Click the envelope next to the newspaper icon to see your mail desk. You will also get a postcard from Club Penguin where you can receive a Blue Mail Bag. Just click on Get Item to get the item.

Saving Postcards will go automatically. Also there are some new postcards. Ánd you are able to get cards from your Puffles when they're hungry! Buddy requests will have the postcard icon. That can be confusing.

Your Spy Phone will now be in the bottom left of your screen. On top of the map.

Then there is a big update to your Player Card. All your clothes will be in categories and you'll find your clothes easier (but maybe not quicker). Also when you're not wearing a background, your background will be the same blue as the rest of the player card. Also when I click on my player card all the items first had to load :( and for some reason I was wearing member glasses (although that changed later).

Then when you visit your Igloo you'll see a part of Mother Nature, that's right, trees and snow and other stuff: Igloo Backgrounds!

Also when you click on the map, and then on Member Igloos. You'll see a new map with lots of igloos. It's cooler but not convenient.

Also there is a rumor about that you can have 300 buddies! Wwe Adam even says it. And he has a image, but on that image it says: 106/100 Buddies. So is this true or not?

There is also a bug, you can dance with the Newspaper. All you have to do is dance and then click on the newspaper :lol: This will be gone soon!

Well, these are all the new features and things. Of course there are some small stuff (like some fonts have been changed). I hope you enjoy the new features ;)

The first new feature you'll notice is the new login and server selection. If you had penguins or passwords saved onto your computer, I'm afraid you'll have to resave them. A pain, I know, but easily tolerable! Anyway, here's what it looks like:

The green is a little putrid, if you ask me; and that is the only thing I have found wrong with this feature. If they'd've kept the old 'faces' thing, I would have preferred it: the green lines are just ugly! If you click 'more servers,' it shows you all the servers in alphabetical order. So it looks like there is no longer servers for different countries.

This could make a lot of the front page servers more popular, and maybe diminish the popularity of ones low down in the alphabet such as Mammoth. We'll have to wait and see!

Probably the second one you'll notice once you're logged on is the new Penguin Mail system, which is a lot different to the old postcard system.

The first bit of mail you get will be an introductory message, from which you can recieve your free blue mailbag:

Now, of course, for one of the most anticipated of all the new features: the new clothes selection! It is much the same as the mods said it would be like:

When you open up your player card, the clothes will fade in.

Now for a small, but reasonably noticable one: the spyphone above the map (only for agents). The mods probably realised no-one used the spyphone when it was stuck in their player card- the map was easier- so they moved it! And I have to say- it looks good where it is:

Now for the new igloo setting- it's much easier to see from a non-member's igloo (ignore the puffles- they're mine and it's some sort of glitch):

If you open up the 'Member's Igloos' section on the map, it doesn't just show you a list anymore:

If you hover your mouse over a picture of an igloo, it will tell you who's it is.

There is a tiny little change wit hteh fund button on a friend's player card- it is now a question mark:

Finally, there have been various changes to the igloo edit options on the right side of your igloo screen.

One is very small: as a post to 'open' and 'close' igloo when you click the padlock, it now says 'lock' and 'unlock.'

Another is also small, but more noticable:

They've replaced the 'stop edit' button with a 'save' button!

They've changed the background while you're editing to a weird grid thing:

They've scrapped the old 'organised' storage (thank goodness) and adopted something similar to the new clothes selection:

And they've scrapped the entire old design of the storage, to be replaced with a 'cleaner' (uglier) design:

Well, I think that's finally it! Wow- that's a lot of new features (other than a few small changes to text size and font here and there)- looks like Disney's trying to change a lot! Sorry this post is so long- but if you think reading it took a long time, imagine what it would be like for me writing it! Well, I'm worn out after writing this post, but I'm glad all the new features came at last! Does this mean CPIP is over?

The Player Card is update. I think this is abit more confusing, But What do you guys think?

The Servers have been update and to see where your buddies are online! Here is what it looks like:

New Igloo Update (For Everybody + Its Free!) and a New Secert Agent Button!

Instead of opening your player card to get to the HQ, you can now click your little spy phone on the screen. Also the new igloo has came out and its free! Its for Non-Members and Members so enjoy it!

The IIS 7.0 CoreWebEngine and W3SVC features must be installed to use this product.

It could mean that you tried to install the wrong architecture (x86 vs. x64). Noob.

(Of course, I haven't just spent the last 5 minutes working that out.)

This flaw within Domain Name System is really critical and the specifics of which is not disclosed until the vendors update their DNS servers. CNET News have quoted it as

The flaw that Kaminsky discovered could allow criminal hackers to guess the transaction ID of any request to a DNS server for a particular domain, such as one used for a bank or an e-commerce site, and then re-direct that request to another site, a phishing site. It would do so silently, evading most anti-phishing technology because the change would be made not at the desktop level but at the DNS server itself. - CNET

Perhaps due to the deadliness of the exploit, the security researcher, Dan Kaminsky who discovered this DNS flaw hasn’t mentioned much about the nature of this flaw yet; however with some really remarkable manner he made some convincing meetings with the vendors such as Microsoft, Cisco, and others making them to release their simultaneous patches to address this flaw.

Yes, the desktops cant do a thing but your DNS servers might betray you if you are to lag behind. Just follow your Microsoft, Cisco, and other vendor's patches.
