Economy Sony by .. Harvey Spector (NYC)
The initial setup went well, but the number of digital stations that I received initially was disappointing. However my roof antenna leads to two different splitters and it services 3 different sets located in 3 different rooms. I expected that the signal to the Sony would be on the weak side.

My solution to the problem was to purchase and install a powered indoor antenna amplifier rated at 25 db. The signal boost was terrific and I am very satisfied with the number of digital TV stations that this set picks up. I know that I shall probably not watch many of them.

The remote controls only this set, but it is easy to use and it does the job.

Overall I am very satisfied with the quality of the images that the Sony receives and I believe it was worth the $699 that I paid for it.

Best value for money and a brand name to boot by .. A. Kavalapara (USA)
Compared Sony and Vizio and went with Sony for just $70 more.

The picture quality is amazing and at 32" there is no discernable difference between 720p and 1080p. The setup is a breeze and the QAM tuner can get some extra digital channels from cable at no extra charge.

Not much pixelation during action and the backlight feature makes viewing a pleasure.

AK

Great Buy: Great picture, easy setup, 1080p(hdmi only) and good price. by .. A. Alonso (Georgia, USA)
great picture quality, stylish look, runs 1080p through hdmi(tested with PS3), has a good number of connectors, energy star approved, great bang for the buck. Highly recommend it.

Great Buy by .. Trevor T. Baxter ()
This is an absolutely fantastic HDTV for the price and quality. Once I used an HDTV calibration bluray everything looked fantastic through my PS3. The set does look great out of the box but I would highly recommend everyone fine tune any set to get the most enjoyment out of it. This is a great set for gamers especially, although I would recommend it to anybody who is in the market. The price is unbeatable for a brand new HDTV with Sony Quality. The sound is decent but my surround sound arrived a few days after.

Terrific High Def TV by .. Golfnut (Centerville, MA)
I recently purchased this Sony model for my sun room as my third and final high def set. Not only am I very satisfied with the picture and quality that Sony builds into their tvs, the set arrived before the actual date of delivery and was very easy to set up with my Direct TV system. Sony has a reputation for building quality products and this tv model is no exception. Color and texture of picture is stunning, bright and vivid. My only issues and they are minor relates to the fifteen second delay (blank screen) I get when I first turn on the set. The other issue (again a minor one) is the sound is average at best but acceptable.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to anyone who is considering 32" HDTV for a reasonable price. 720 vs. 1080, I do not see any discernible difference in the picture comparisons between the two.Hence, my suggestion is to go with the 720 with the much lower pricetag.

I know I'm WAY behind on this one....which is why I'm still going to share it. I figure there are still some of you out there who haven't seen the beauty of this commercial for Sony Bravia. They filmed this with REAL bouncy balls. Nothing was faked on the computer. It is seriously incredible and beautifully mesmerizing. Plus, the song, Heartbeats by Jose Gonzales, is spectacular. It's my new fave right now. Hope you enjoy!

WHAT THE HECK WITH HD TELEVISION? IS IT WORTH SWITCHING?

We bought our Sony Bravia HDTV last November and got the HD channels from Rogers Cable right away, including the bonus package.

HDTV is really a shock.

To compare, I don't even have to go back to the days of watching B&W television using a tube-box as thick as a beer-belly.

HDTV is as powerful for the eye as is a drop of water on a tongue that licked sandpaper all night.

HDTV REVOLUTION IN CANADA!

Back in November 'o7, when we signed for HDTV with Rogers, life was full of promises...this is just the appetizer, Rogers fliers said, the HD experience will virtually explode in the near future.

We're in the same place, stuck with the same number of channels, and the HDTV revolution eludes us. If there's any revolution at all.

I read there are huge bandwidth costs related to introducing new HD channels...

OUR HDTV EXPERIENCE

Our HDTV experience is so addictive that we changed our TV habbits.

PBS (via WNED HD) is our main station through the morning, watching toddler shows: Boobah, It's a big big world.

Once we hit the 7 AM mark during our weekdays, I switch for a few minutes on DiscoveryHD, for their Sunrise Earth show. Nature at sunrise with it's original soundtrack, in HDTV. A simple, genius idea for my morning coffee ahead of a busy day at the office.

City TV in Toronto is the only local that offers a full-HD experience. We spend a lot of time there.

CBC has some toddler programming that we watch in HD over the weekend.

Still, we miss a full-time HD channel for kids.

Hey, investors...

Then, of course, are the sports in HD. Hockey looks great! Olympics in HDTV is a feast.

And Sundays are for the 5.1 HD concerts on HD Net.

CUSTOMER SERVICE AT ROGERS CABLE and TREEHOUSE TV

I recently wrote to Rogers Cable's customer service about the lack of kids program.

2/3 of our TV time is spent watching kids programming with our 2.5 year old son. We would be thankful for a couple of kids channels in HD. We would easily give up some other channels that we never watch (they are good, of course, but just out of our radar).

Rogers Cable answered by saying "thanks for the feedback, it's important for us." And that was it.

** ** **
I then emailed Treehouse TV asking when is their channel going to be available in HD?

They don't even bother replying to your email.
They send an automated response instead, with their "useful" FAQs link etc.

** ** **
Bell Canada is also an HDTV provider in Canada.

I looked at their HDTV channels lineup: nothing there to trigger my decision to change the provider.

Of course, as any sane Canadian knows, writing to Bell's customer service is like writing poems on the beach in between the waves that erase them.

CONCLUSION

Am I excited by HDTV? Yes! I strongly recommend it.

Finally: how does your HDTV experience look like?

Why'd I wait? by .. L. Shuler (North Carolina, United States)
Bought this at WalMart for two reasons, picture quality and inputs. Picture quality was outstanding considering it side-by-side with everything else they had at the store. That wasn't enough for me. I wanted connectivity options. This "TV" has 3 HDMI inputs (not 2 as the description says). One of the HDMI inputs is on the side of the TV so you can plug in anything you want, any time. It also has 2 VGA ports - one on the side. If that's not enough, there are two HD component inputs and optical and RCA audio outputs. But wait, there's an S-Video input too. Did I mention it also has an HD15 video monitor (from your PC) input? How about a 3.5mm audio input? WOWIE! Oops, it's got a coax input as well so you can use it as a regular old TV.

Pitcure's great, blah, blah, blah... but did I mention the connectors? This TV doubles as an admirable PC monitor at full 1080P (assuming your video card supports it). Was able to play FPS games at full resolution. Wow again.

Cons: Well, there are some. The first one is the minimalist remote control. Everything is menu driven, it seems, and it wasn't intuitive for me. I'd like more of it to be in shorter menus you can access from the remote. How about a universal remote? I have a Sony DVPCX995V 400-Disc DVD Mega Changer/Player that does HDMI 1080i upconverting (outstaning btw), a Sony home theater sound system as well. I have to have THREE different remotes for three Sony products. Arg. Then I have a satelite controller too.

The other beef I have is the highly limited PIP. It's got that many inputs, but you can only use one at a time. The only PIP functionality is when you're in PC mode with the HD15 input. Of course, if you're using the HDMI for PC input it's gone. This function is highly limited being a small box you can't change positions of. It's also poorly described in the instructions.

Seems like a fine TV at a decent price by .. William Mahoney ()
This is our first "big flat screen monster" and, while we are "Sony People" we were put off by their prices until these new models came out. The picture looks great, 1080 in particular of course. I have not noticed any of the not-quite-black issues others have talked about. The contrast is fine for me. I like the "piano black" much better than Sony's fancy glass models, and it costs less as well. If there is one and only one issue with the whole thing it is that the documentation seems skimpy; it's all about connecting the cables and not much technical detail about the TV. I already know how to hook it up... But if you're looking at a 40 inch this is a nice one.

Great TV. by .. Richard Adams ()
This TV show HD picture wonderfully, for its price among its peers. It is a good choice. It is good for the game also. Perfect, and the sound effect .... A+

Remarkable TV for the money by .. digerati (San Francisco, CA United States)
This is a remarkable TV for the money, with a great picure and resolution up to 1080p (P for progressive scan -- 1080 lines of resolution with no interlace), and also support for 24 frames-per-second movie playback with Blu-ray high definition DVDs.

Setting up is straightfoward -- you set up the stand where you want it, lift the TV onto it, and tighten 4 screws. It can also be wall mounted. On the back are the large range of inputs: three HDMI, two component, one S-Video, two standard video (RCA jacks) and one VGA port. You can guarantee that whatever you have, you'll be able to connect it to this TV.

The best quality of output and convenience comes from HDMI connections (order some low cost HDMI cables from Amazon; my local stores wanted $50-$179!) A Blu-ray DVD player connected to the TV via HDMI delivers outstanding picture quality at 1080p, with amazing detail. It's so good, in fact, that I found myself noticing film grain more often -- you can practically count the grains!

This TV supports 24 frames-per-second ("24p" in the jargon), which matches the screen refresh rate to that used in movies. The visible difference shows up in shots where the camera pans (moves parallel to the scene). With regular TV playback, panning makes the scene blurry and you can't see much detail because extra "interpolated" frames are inserted to match the TV frame rate. Panning shots in "Casino Royale" blu-ray DVD were clear at 24p, revealing some visual jokes I missed before (e.g. the Richard Branson cameo at airport security). For movies like The Bourne Ultimatum with lots of camera movement, 24p makes the whole movie clearer.

Screen contrast of the TV is also very good. Blacks appear black, color is not overdone (though there is a "vivid" setting if you want to boost saturation). Lower resolution sources at 480i look pretty good -- they are upscaled nicely by the TV. Connecting a Wii with the standard video cables worked fine and produced a good picture.

For HDTV sources, this TV does excellent noise reduction and yet still delivers crisp detail and good color. This is where other LCD TVs fall down, and Sony really has done a great job with the Bravia engine.

Sound from the internal speakers is very good indeed, with dialogue particularly clear. Home theater speakers are better, but then that's true for any TV.

I am very happy with my purchase -- the TV has a stellar set of features at a great price versus more expensive versions with more bells and whistles... which I don't need. It is not the cheapest LCD TV in the 40" size, but the picture quality and number of source inputs sets it apart.

Amazing for the price! by .. Cisneros (Nuevo Leon, México)
Beautiful HD TV, it has excellent resolution, so quiet and I was surprised to find out the sound aint that disapointing either (in case you ran out of money to buy a Home theather haha!) Im sure paired with a good Home theather, its like I am at the movies! I really recommend this TV.

I am back again to give you my two cents on what I think are the most happening gadgets in the tech part of the world. Here I go...
Iphone 3G
Rs 24,000 onwards

Browse games and applications. And then, download and install them directly onto your iPhone. Like the original iPhone, it combines three products in one — a revolutionary phone, a widescreen iPod, and a breakthrough Internet device with rich HTML email and a desktop-class web browser. This nifty gadget has GPS maps that will help you find your location, get directions, and track progress along your route. You can search your contacts, manage your emails better and view more attachments. So what are you waiting for? Surf the web and download email over fast 3G cellular networks. Airtel and Vodafone are bringing it to India.

Orb speakers
Rs 10,000-Rs 1 lakh

They are small, round, and quite beautiful. But turn them on, and everything about them is big: a big, beautiful sound usually reserved for much larger speakers. A big change aesthetically over those clunky old behemoths of sound. Meet Orb, the recently launched line of handmade, highly affordable and décor-friendly speakers. The spherical Mod1 satellite speaker is made from high carbon steel uses rare earth magnets to produce big, full sound from the smallest possible package. The speakers are round and measure only about 4 3/16 inches in diameter, so they fit anywhere. Best of all, they are modular and upgradable. To buy, visit www.orbaudio.com.

Suunto Lumi
Rs 15,400-Rs 18,500

Get your hands on Finland based Suunto’s new Lumi, a sports watch designed for women who enjoy an active lifestyle. The first outdoor watch of its kind, Suunto Lumi combines advanced ABC (altimeter, barometer, and compass) functions with new benefits including sunrise and sunset times, personal day counter, an intuitive user interface, and a menu in four languages. The best part of it is that it is a high-quality outdoor watch that combines fashion with functionality. Plus, it can be customised with accessories like different-coloured and patterned straps. With the carabiner jacket, the watch is protected against rough handling and can be attached anywhere. Visit www.suunto.com.

Nikon D700
Rs 1.25 lakh

The latest from Nikon’s stable is a digital SLR camera loaded with a 12.1 megapixel FX-format sensor that measures 23.9 x 36mm. This is nearly identical to the size of 35mm film. It is best suited for advanced and professional photographers as it offers stunning image quality, accurate colour reproduction and revolutionary low-light performance. It has 51-point auto focus system with 3D Focus Tracking and two Live View shooting modes that allow you to frame a shot using the camera's three-inch high-resolution LCD monitor. Another highlight is the new active dust reduction system. A must-have for any photographer working on FX-format.

Sony Bravia LCD TV
Rs 25,900-Rs 2.99 lakh

Vibrant, crisp and true-to-life. We are talking about the next-generation LCD TVs (40 to 52-inch) from Sony that deliver spectacular images that are sharp and vibrant every single time. The latest W, V and S series in the Bravia range are a lot more than just these. They are equipped with MPEG noise reduction to give a true-to-life picture quality. The range also allows one to pack in sports, movies and games with an amazing backlit picture, amplified and enhanced surround sound, and the convenience of sleep timer and picture freeze. This is truly a screen with higher resolution aimed at the future. And it is stylish to boot.

This is for Mar, who is moving to San Francisco, and reminded me of one of my favorite commercials for the Sony Bravia. The commercial takes place in SF and has music by Jose Gonzalez's cover of Heartbeats, which is a great song. I also love the double meaning of the commercial. The bouncy balls were meant to show both that the Sony Bravia could handle colors well, but it also showed that the streets of San Francisco has people as diverse as the colorful bouncy balls. Here is to Mar becoming a bouncy ball.
Well there is no doubt about the quality and features of their phones, because they have given us various models which have smoothened our life a lot and also entertained us to the fullest. They have recently launched another model called Sony Ericsson C902.

The Sony Ericsson C902 is a Cyber Shot phones which has some mind blowing characteristics in it. The new features embedded in this phone are dust and splash resistant, snap shots quickly in any position your are in and others. Whenever Sony comes up with a model they take care that their new mend of features should be useful to users. Thats why you will always find that no matter how complicated it may seem to operate a Sony Phone, it can be even easily operated by a lay man. The same is with the 3G smart phone called Sony Ericsson C902i.

The phone has been recently released in February 2008 and is much awaited for the array of features it has and the looks its provide. The quad band phone supports GSM network of GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900, and the 3G network of HSDPA 2100. The dimensions of the phone are also quite handy - 108 x 49 x 10.5 mm only and it weighs 107 g.

I just came back from speaking at and sitting through the IAB engage conference in Manchester.

Microsoft IE gaff

Highlights included a senior guy from Microsoft Advertising failing to understand the meaning of 'IE8', apparently 'that's a different department'....fair enough (not)

IAB online effectiveness

There was a great presentation from the IAB about the effectiveness of online and TV working in tandem. Not ground breaking as it mirrors the findings of the old Unilever Dove case study - but great to have some UK data to show my clients. My only scepticism about this, is that whilst being great research - it's a million miles away from making it into traditional offline media planning models, and the monthly TV vs Digital debate I seem to have. The challenge of forcing the reappraisal of planning models it appears still needs to be fought by the digital agencies.

Online PR

At swamp we're about to launch our formalised online PR offer together with our colleagues in Brahm PR. It's going to be good harnessing the power of a well established and excellent PR team with our knowledge and experience in digital... but it is weird - we've being doing online PR in digital for years we just never called it that before :)

Anyway, there was a great presentation from Immediate Future about the online PR campaign they did for Sony Bravia. It was very niche focusing on the management of the release of the 3rd Bravia ad (the one with all the bunnies. Basically they manage to head off the advertising blogerati from giving it a panning and suppress an underground revolt from fans of the fantastic Kozyndan. Job well done, but did it sell any more TV's?

Still it's made me appreciate the Kozyndan bunny poster I have hanging in my studio even more :)

Are you out looking for the best buy on HDTV? There are various brands which are offering HDTVs at affordable prices with the latest features and technology. The first thing to find the best HDTV is to know the basic facts about it. HDTV can come with LCD or plasma monitors. Here are a few popular models and their specifications for the new HDTV buyers.

Samsung offers you many versions of HDTV screens. Samsung's HL-T5087S DLP HDTV is one of the best products from Samsung. This product is well-built and slim. Its rear projection DLP user manual is good and extensive, and the remote is intuitive. The energy-efficient 50" screen features a powerful, long-lasting LED light engine that turns on almost instantly. Full HD 1080p resolution and Samsung Cinema Smooth technology deliver a wide range of brilliant colors, with bright images and a crisp definition. The blackest of blacks, brightest of whites and nuanced tones are yours with a 10000:1 dynamic contrast ratio. The sound is great, but if you have the resources to add a 600W 5.1 surround system, you will hear the difference.

The Panasonic TH-50PZ77U is the 50" class 1080p plasma HDTV with anti-glare filter, EZ sync HDAVI control and built-in GalleryPlayer-capable SD card memory slot. Panasonic believes to provide the latest in HDTV technology in its models. This television has the most beautiful picture display with deep, rich colors, very good viewing angles, and detailing in the blacks that an LCD can't touch. The TV is a bit heavy and this prevents it from accidentally falling. Overall, this is a remarkable TV.

The S Series is the latest offering from the Sony Bravia line of high-performance and sleek styling LCD TVs. Sony BRAVIA KDL-32S2000 32" LCD panel features the latest in Sony's unique S-PVA technology, which delivers vivid and accurate colors along with wide viewing angles and a blazing 8ms response time. Other features such as PC input allow the user to connect a PC for viewing content in a 16:9 high resolution environment. And with integrated HDTV capabilities, you can enjoy digital programming with enhanced audio and video reproduction. While the KDL-32S2000 is value priced, it also offers an elegant flat panel design that can be placed anywhere at home.

Toshiba is another favorite in the market with a screen size ranging till 47 inches and embedded with Cinespeed LCD panel and Pixel pure technology for good picture and sound. It builds upon its heritage by delivering the industry's most innovative, high-quality solutions. The Toshiba 57HM167 has great picture, amazing sound quality and an attractive design. It looks great in 720p and just think, if EA sports would have made the game in 1080p for ps3. If you want a "Full HD" at a very reasonable price, then this is it. Very easy to use TV with great options.

... is the one of simply beautiful commercials. Where you really couldn't make out the concept to seem much with words. It'll all just be "You know, it's about the music. It has to have great music... and the graphics. It has to have great graphics. And we'll just put all that together and... well, there's your add."

Sure, there's more to it, but here's the most recent thing i found that a brilliant team can make out of that:

And... another example would be the Sony classics we all know:
