First comes heavy breathing, staring at the ceiling, what will happen next I don't want to know

What do I have to offer a man? I can barely take care of myself. When he asks how I spent my summer, I can't reply with, "I packed my little Jeep Grand Cherokee, Stefano, as much as I could fit, and moved to the ass crack of New Jersey for reasons still unbeknownst to me. I didn't work for 3 months, didn't go to school, and lived on numerous couches in insect infested apartments. Sat in front of the T.V., computer, and book after book. Oh and I went to the beach once."

Of course, most girl thinks this way. At least the one's with low self-esteem, and then one day, their Edward Cullen comes. Obviously it's not Edward Cullen for all. For some it's Heathcliffe or Collin Firth or Kurt Cobain or Romeo (although Romeo was always a bit whiney and dramatic for my taste).

Which leads me to my first theory of many. Human beings can be attracted to two types of mate: 

1) The Mirror Image - We identify with other people.
In The Sweetest Thing, quiet Jane (Selma Blair) fell in love with the quiet guy in the corner of the club. My friend, Renee (who is shy and intelligent and awkard and a bit of a pushover) is in love with Ron from Harry Potter. "Why Ron?" I ask. Of all people! He's pessimistic, mostly cowardly, and a little dopey. But he's also shy and intelligent and awkard and a bit of a pushover!!!! Coincidence? I think not.

2) The Yin-Yang - The exact opposite of the mirror image.
We see what we lack in ourselves and search in others for those qualities. Those are the couples no one can figure out why are together. I'm shy at first and can't fathom making the physical first move, so I like guys that are outgoing (usually to the extent of being cocky and arrogant). I need to know they're interested before I make the move. I may have only had one long-term relationship (4 months isn't exactly long-term, but my longest-term) but I'm inexperienced enough for two people and need a guy who's a little daring.

Theory Two: Ok, last week when I was at the library, I picked up a book telling you exactly what men want and how women (more specifically, YOU) scare them off. Half way through the first chapter - The Agenda Girl - I took the book back. I picked it up as a stupid hopeful answer to the minds of men. It game me that insight, but why would I want it? I want to make my own mistakes. And if you get a marriage proposal from every guy you date, how are you supposed to find Mr. Right? It would be like a baseball team hitting a home run off every player, but never knowing who your Mark McGwire was.

This book was nothing but relationship propaganda, giving you step by step insight to a falsely happy you. Make your own mistakes and learn from them. Whether you're twenty or sixty, you'll find your match; someone who wants to talk about marriage and children on the first date too!

And finally, on to my third and last theory. I fall in love with fictional characters (that's not the theory part). But why? I know they're fake, but if we're setting standards why not raise the bar? Someone out there is bound to hold these exact same qualities. If we don't meet them, the truth is that none of us in love with someone they dreamed up anyways! She may have 3 or 4 of the 5 qualities you want, but she still doesn't pick up her dirty clothes or clean her hairs out of the shower when she's done. The truth is, we all sacrifice some things off our lists for the idea that this person could be The One. And then another The One comes along.

And ok, I know my soulmate isn't a transluscent skinned vampire who saves my life a million and one times, but he does have to be a tad dangerous but make me feel safe at the same time, and talk to me about secrets he has, and tease me in a way that says he adores my flaws, and me electricity go through my entire body when we touch. And it would be wicked awesome if his eyes changed colors according to his moods and how hungry he was...hey, a girl can dream can't she?

The point is, if you aim for the stars, you have a good chance of catching one, even if you over-shoot it.

 And so the Lion fell in love with the Lamb...

Though Pineapple Express was a bit of a dud, Franco shone as unwashed but adorably loyal drug dealer Saul Silver. And if we can love him through the greasy hair, and the pajama pants then he must be something special so we decided to investigate further.

And we were bursting with excitement to also discover that this handsome boy was once a fellow wallflower. While studying English at UCLA, Franco signed up for acting lessons to help overcome his shyness. Within a year, he dropped out of school to study at Carnegie's Playhouse West. And not long after that, he landed his break-out role in the cult-hit Freaks and Geeks (which I am dying to see).

Franco has stolen our hearts with his talent and charisma, playing everything from heartthrob James Dean to a Green Goblin-in-training, Harry Osbourne in the Spiderman movies. Not to mention that irresistibly goofy grin. To sum it up: yum!

So, join us in our celebration of James Franco by renting the entire first (and only) season of Freaks and Geeks. The tagline sums up the show's hilarity perfectly: " Everything you remember from high school... that you choose to forget."

This month we will also begin to celebrate all the female celebs that rock our world. So, in honour of Annie's rockin' new haircut, wallflower's inaugural female crush of the month is the always elegant Selma Blair!

To start with, I love a girl who can pull off such an edgy pixie cut. It takes a certain something (great bone structure, beautiful features and a ton of confidence) to pull of off hair this short. Her style is this great Gap ad (left) and her badass new cut for Hellyboy 2 are the bold, edgy styles we can only dream of having. But she pulls them both (and everything) off with such elegance and glamour. It is an enviable combination.

Our love affair with Blair began with her role as the hopelessly clueless Cecile Caldwell in Cruel Intentions. And it has being going strong ever since. Sure, she has had some misses: we cringed at all of Jane's misfortunes in The Sweetest Thing and don't even want to know about the enormous breasts in A Dirty Shame. But there have also been some hits too, Vivian Kensington in Legally Blonde and hidden TV gem Zoe, Duncan, Jack and Jane. And her amazing personal style cemented her status as a fashion icon and muse.

We, here at wallflower, absolutely love her and just know that you will too. So celebrate by checking out one of Blair's indie films, like Purple Violets which was directed by Ed Burns or the high school/college dramedy Storytelling.

Een fragment uit "The Sweetest Thing". U herkent zeker en vast: Cameron Diaz, Christina Applegate (aka Kelly Bundy) en Selma Blair.

El concepto es bien sencillo. Os propongo grupo, pongo mi canción favorita del mismo, os pido que en un comentario me digáis cuál es la vuestra, y voy subiendo los vídeos de las que me digáis a la entrada, hasta tener un recopilatorio de todas nuestras canciones favoritas del grupo en cuestión.

La vez anterior le tocó el turno a Queen, y la acogida de la idea fue bastante buena pues os implicasteis un montón y la entrada quedó genial.

Esta vez os propongo a U2. Mi canción favorita (tras muchas dudas porque tienen un buen puñado de temas míticos) es la de "Pride (In the Name of Love)", de su álbum "The Unforgettable Fire" (1984). ¿Por qué escojo esta canción? Probablemente porque se encuadra en su estilo más clásico, ese sonido U2 inconfundible, marca de la casa con la guitarra de The Edge y el empleo de los sintetizadores. Y, ¡qué leches! Porque es un pedazo de canción. Una curiosidad: es uno de los dos temas de ese disco (junto con "MLK") dedicados a Martin Luther King.

Qué jovenzuelos, ¿eh? Menuda cara de pimpollos...
