I don't know much about The Tellers, except that they're Belgian and apparently no one else has heard of them either. I haven't heard anything but this song, which is off their album "Hands Full of Ink," but if you're looking for something sunny and upbeat without being saccharine, with some charmingly androgynous lead vocals (my favorite!), that just makes you want to get up and do the twist like a clumsy white kid, or strum air guitar while sitting in front of your iMac like a clumsy white kid (which I'm doing right now), or, hell, just listen to music that makes you feel like a clumsy white kid again (which, face it, you still are), download that jount.

Zita Swoon en Rob De Nijs bovenaan affiche Maanrock

De organisatoren hebben vrijdag de nagenoeg volledige affiche van Maanrock voorgeteld. Het gratis Mechelse stadsfestival vindt dit jaar op zaterdag 23 en zondag 24 augustus plaats. De bekendste namen zijn Zita Swoon en Rob De Nijs.
Zaterdag staan naast Zita Swoon ook The Arquettes, Mud Flow, The Tellers, Baloji, Tim Vanhamel, Arid en Glimmers op het hoofdpodium. Op de zijpodia staan Frituur Paula, Les Truttes, Luna Twist, Selah Sue, Trixie Whitley, The Partchesz, Roland, Cheature with the Atom Brain, Dead Souls, The Germans en Senser.
Op de meer op families gerichte zondag treden op het hoofdpodium Ellen, Trust, X!nk, Stan Van Samang, The Sublimo's, De Kreuners en Rob De Nijs op. Op de zijpodia zorgen dan The Hickey Underworld, Paranoiacs, De Heideroosjes, Thou, Eva De Roovere, Filip Kowlier, Andes, Missmoses, Zeker Weten en Lady Linn voor ambiance.
Het is dit jaar de dertiende keer dat Maanrock wordt georganiseerd. Volgens de organisatoren waren er op de recordeditie van 2007 liefst 140.000 bezoekers.

Lekkere zomerse Engelse sing&song met folky accenten en BELGISCH (gedaan met dat Britpopaccentje), of beter gezegd W.A.A.L.S. Hun website is gewoon een 'player' waar je van de ene plaat naar de andere skipt. Soo cute die stemmen en deuntjes.

Ze bestaan al even, niks nieuws maar wel erg in trek want een fashionable publiek kan hen aanhoren tijdens de modeshow van 'Comptoir des Cotonniers' (heb hiervan een fantastisch bohojurkje! Dankjewel mijn Beertje).

Een voorsmaakje? Niet meteen volledig eigen werk maar iets getemperde cover mét mooie clip.

The Tellers sind ein Tipp von Nils' bekanntschaft aus Berlin, davor kannte ich sie auch noch nicht. Das Debut Album des Duos erschien zwar schon im August des letzten Jahres, trotzdem will ich hier ein paar Worte darüber verlieren.
The Tellers sind Ben Baillieux-Beynon und Charles Blistin, sie sind um die zwanzig Jahre alt und kommen aus Belgien. Bekannt wurden sie mit dem Song "Second Category", welcher auch in einem Werbespot von Canon zu hören war. Es folgte eine EP und schließlich das Album "Hands Full Of Ink".
Ich finde mit ihren charmant verspielten und ruhigen Lieder hören sie sich etwas nach The View und Girls In Hawaii an, wer die also mag, dem könnte auch The Tellers gefallen.
Das Musikvideo von Second Category gefällt mir nicht so gut. Bei diesem Video gefällt mir so gut wie der Sänger das "Cat-eee-gory" betont...

Trends & Muziek in 2007 / Vooruitblik 2008

Trends in 2007... we hadden als grote Trends het opkomen en al even snel terug afgaan van de jump (De 'Bass moet je voelen, niet horen' guys) en de op de jaren 80 geinspireerde Newrave (Gebakken lucht in de vorm van Skinny pants en Fluo Tshirts) en dan had je ook Emo (Tegenwoordig ook een soort scheldwoord). Bands als Joy Division stonden opeens weer enorm in de kijker (mede door Control, de film van Anton corbijn) en als opkomend talent hadden we 'The Wombats' en de belgische band 'The Tellers'

Wat brengt 2008? Zeker uitkijken naar 'The Good Shoes' en 'The Teenagers'. En in 2008 komt naar alle waarsschijnlijkheid de nieuwe Plaat van Franz Ferdinand uit! Yes.

Compil Summer '07

Here's my playlist for this Summer. Didn't have so much time to post it before so here it is. I know it's already autumn but that's for the record. Maybe it can inspire some people, give ideas about what to buy or listen to.

As usual this compilation is a mix between pearls from the past and new tunes. And as John Peel said, it's all about finding a balance between what you know people wil like and what you think they will like. So you'll find new stuff like the 1990s, Wolfmother, Digitalism, The Tellers, Voxtrot, Slaraffenland...seems to be the new rock scene featuring a slice of electro to sound more modern. Then you have also the older tracks like Desmond Dekker, Carly Simon and Frankie Valli. I also borrowed Born to be wild, an interesting cover, surfing on the Balkan wave. The remix from Amerie is not really new but sounds very sunny, heavy track. Also some French artist on this compilation: Soko, Constance Verluca and H-Burns, they are relatively new, almost unknown in France and you better check them out. junior Murvin closes this compilation by a nice ballad with his typical voice, how can he go so high?
