A favorite summer destination for tourists from all over the world, Cadaqués is home to some famous artists, such as Salvador Dali. Cadaqués is a fishing village, in the province of Girona, in the Autonomous Region of Catalonia of Spain.

I would like to see the chapel at Cadaqués besides smelling the natural sea. My childhood days were spent playing and swimming at the beaches.  I love the sea. At the seaside, starfishes and horseshoe crabs used to be a common scene. My family, together with other relatives and my parents' friends would join us for a gathering.  Those were such happy and fun days.  I love the smell of the sea, and the cool breeze.  I have not been to the sea for a long time.  It would be great to book for Costa Brava Hotels or Costa Del Sol Hotels which are conveniently located near the beach.  Imagine staying in the hotel, you can walk to the beach anytime you want and you can retire to your room anytime you are tired. 

Of course beaches is not all the time I would spend at Costa Brava.  I want to walk around the fishing village, to see each and every corners of all the houses, with growth of figs and various plants around it like this picture above.  This is so beautiful.

Mass tourism has been a mixed blessing to Spain, filling her coffers but ruining much of her coastline.  Fishing villages have been degraded into jerry-built Manhattans, virgin beaches raped by developers with an eye for the fast buck.  Luckily, there are exceptions and, as long as places like Calella de Palafrugell are spared the worst outrages, the Costa Brava, will not entirely belie its name.   Compare it to Benidorm, further south on the Costa Blanca.  Stay at Benidorm Hotels or book for Alicante Hotels and enjoy beach fun at Eastern Spain.  It is a wonderful place for a getaway!

Getting off the plane was a surprisingly blissful experience. No luggage falling out of the overhead lockers, no sharp elbows fighting for their cheap tax-free liquor, and no competition for who gets to leave the plane 20 seconds before everyone else. This enduring patience, is what good karma is made of.

Well of the plane, I was ready to encounter this new strange country.

 The first people I meet, was the human shepherds. All over the airport, there was uniformed pantomime-people who guided you in the right direction. There was no going wrong. No possibilities to stray away from the flock or standing in lines incorrectly.

 This was all very comforting, and relaxing experience.  But on the filp side, when people treat you like a sheep, you become one. Upon leaving the airport, I already felt I had lost some of my independence. I did not care....independence is totaly overateded anyway!   

The research also discusses whether having migraines is what causes the neurological changes, rather than the other way round.

I have been thinking lately about what comes first in FM - the pain or the neurological changes? Could CMP (Chronic Myofascial Pain) for example, cause the neurological changes of FMS because of the pain it causes? It is well documented that other, more widely diagnosed, conditions, such as Rheumatoid Arthritis and Systemic Lupus, often lead to Fibromyalgia and many experts have hypothesised that this is because of the pain and other stresses (bodily as well as mental) that the primary conditions cause. Could it be possible that everyone with Fibro actually had another condition first, even if they didn't know it (the most likely candidate in that case seemingly being CMP)?

 The dopamine theory (as proposed by Patrick Wood and supported by Andrew Holman) is that physical and mental stresses cause an abnormal reaction in the brains of people with FM, leading to a lack of available dopamine, which then causes the hypersensitivity, fatigue and cognitive fog (among other symptoms). The changes in the brain associated with this theory have been documented and trials of dopamine agonists for FM are extremely promising. Could it be that the dopamine theory and the neurological changes are FM, but that people with FM have a primary condition (e.g. CMP) that leads to the changes? I know that even when my FM is under control with the dopamine drugs, I still have CMP and need to get that treated or the FM symptoms come back or get worse. I also know that, even without the drugs, getting the CMP treated makes a big difference.

And in my experience most, if not all Fibromites with "primary" Fibromyalgia (i.e. they do not have a separate "primary" condition like RA or SLE) have CMP, although many do not realise it. Could CMP be the primary condition?

Some people say that CMP is FM, but experts in the field (Travell, Simon, Starlanyl) all talk about the differences between CMP and FM.

Perhaps all Fibromyalgia is what is now called secondary Fibromyalgia?

Having traveled this beautiful and majestic country by motor and thumb, I have seen many sites of splendor. However, by far the most picturesque and alluring of them all, is Lake Placid New York. Nestled between the towering and imposing Adirondacks Mountains, its beauty and tranquility is awe-inspiring. Most think of it as just a winter resort, however a summertime visit brings out its true magnificence.One reason for its splendor being preserved is its relative isolation. Even though it was the host for the 1932 and 1980 Olympics it has still maintained its virginity as a place of rest and recreation. As you leave the heavily traveled and state police lined New York State Thruway, you begin your thirty-mile drive to the village of Lake Placid. This winding, curving road is very narrow and laden with many car thumping frost heaves. The splendor of the plush green vegetation and the colorful mountain flowers, gives one a sense of serenity and a hint that this is a very unique, untamed wilderness. Sheer rock cliffs, rising from the roadway, border the route and fast moving snow fed rivers cascade down the mountain passes. The roar of the river can be heard thru a closed car window, giving one a sense that you’re at one with nature. The aroma of pine inundates your vehicle as if you had a back seat full of cheap, but robust air fresheners. Many vigorous and enthusiastic outdoorsmen line the banks of the river, trying for that elusive record trout that can be obtained from this dangerous, intimidating, but inviting river.

ಅಸಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಖುಷಿ ಕೊಡುವುದು ಹಗಲಿನ ಪ್ರಯಾಣವೇ ಆಗಿದ್ದರೂ, ಸುಮಾರು 400 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರ ಕ್ರಮಿಸುವಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ನಾನಾ ರೀತಿಯ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳು ಎದುರಾಗುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ಬಸ್ ಹೊರಟು ಹತ್ತು ನಿಮಿಷಕ್ಕೆ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ ತೊಳೆಸಲು ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಅಡಿಕೆಯೊ, ಶುಂಠಿಯೊ, ಪೆಪ್ಪರಮಿಂಟೊ ಬಾಯಿಗೆ ಬಿದ್ದು, ಹೊಟ್ಟೆ ಕೊಂಚ ಸ್ಥಿಮಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಬರುವಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲೇ ಬಾತ್ ರೂಂ ನೆನಪಾಗಿ, ಮುಂದಿನ ಸ್ಟಾಪ್ ಯಾವಾಗ ಎಂದು ಚಟಪಡಿಸಲು ಆರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆ. ಮುಂದಿನ ಊರಲ್ಲಿ 'ಎರಡೇ ನಿಮ್ಷ ನಿಲ್ಸೋದು' ಎಂದೇನಾದರೂ ಕಂಡಕ್ಟರ್ ಮೂತಿ ತಿರುವಿದರೆ ಅದಕ್ಕೂ ಸಂಚಕಾರ! ಈ ತೊಂದರೆಗಳೆಲ್ಲಾ ಮುಗಿದರೆ ಹಸಿವೊ, ನೀರಡಿಕೆಯೊ ಶುರುವಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಹಾಗೆಂದೇ ಹಗಲಿನ ಬಸ್ಸಿಗೂ ನನಗೂ ಎಂದಿಗೂ ಆಗಿಬರದ ನಂಟು.

ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ರಾತ್ರಿಯಿಡೀ ಒಂದೇ ನಿದ್ದೆ ಮಾಡುವ ನನಗೆ, ಈ ಸಾಮರ್ಥ್ಯವನ್ನು ರಾತ್ರಿಯ ಬಸ್ ಪ್ರಯಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ ತೋರುವ ಕೌಶಲ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ರಾತ್ರಿ ಬಸ್ಸು ನಿಂತಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲಾ ಆಯಾ ಊರು/ಬಸ್ ಸ್ಟ್ಯಾಂಡು ನೋಡುವ ಭಾಗ್ಯ(?). ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ ಹೊರಟ ಕೆಂಪು ಬಸ್ಸು ಜೋಲಾಡುತ್ತಾ ಅರಸೀಕೆರೆ ತಲುಪುವಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ನಿದ್ದೆ ಆಗಿರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಒಂದೊಮ್ಮೆ ಎಚ್ಚರವಾಗದಿದ್ದರೆ 'ಎಳ್ನೀರ್ ಎಳ್ನೀರ್' ಎಂಬ ಕೂಗು ಎಬ್ಬಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ನೆಪ ಮಾತ್ರಕ್ಕೆ ಸೀಟಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಳಿತು ಭಾರವನ್ನೆಲ್ಲಾ ಬಹುತೇಕ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೇಲೆ ಹೇರಿರುವ ಪಕ್ಕದ ಪ್ರಯಾಣಿಕರನ್ನು ತಿವಿದೆಬ್ಬಿಸಿ ಕೂರಿಸುವಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಸೀಟಿನ ಯಾವುದೊ ಮಗು ಕಿಟಾರನೆ ಕಿರುಚಿ ಎಂಥಾ ನಿದ್ದೆಬಡುಕರನ್ನೂ ಎಬ್ಬಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಮಾತ್ರವಲ್ಲ, ಬಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಉಳಿದ ಕಂದಮ್ಮಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಳಲು ಸ್ಫೂರ್ತಿ ನೀಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು.

ಅರಸೀಕೆರೆ ನಂತರ ಕಡೂರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಐದು ನಿಮಿಷಗಳ ಸ್ಟಾಪು. ರಸ್ತೆಯಂಚಿನ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ, ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿನ ಸಣ್ಣ ಹೊಟೆಲ್ಲು, ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ತೇಲಿ ಬರುವ ಕಾಫಿ ಪರಿಮಳ, ಬೆನ್ನಿಗೇ ಅದೆಷ್ಟೋ ದಿನಗಳಿಂದ ಬೋಂಡಾ ಕರಿಯುತ್ತಲೇ ಇರುವ ಎಣ್ಣೆಯ ಕಮಟು ವಾಸನೆ, ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಕೇಳಿ ಬರುವ ಮಾಧುರಿ ದೀಕ್ಷಿತಳ 'ಕೋಯಲ್ ಸಿ ತೇರಿ ಬೋಲಿ... ಕುಕುಕುಕು' ಎಂದೇನೊ ಹಾಡು. ಮಂಪರಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಗಡಿಯಾರವನ್ನೊಮ್ಮೆ ನೋಡಿ, 'ಇವತ್ತೇನು ಇಷ್ಟು ಲೇಟು' ಎಂದು ಗೊಣಗಿ ಕಣ್ಣುಮುಚ್ಚಿದರೆ ಮತ್ತೆ ಎಚ್ಚರವಾಗುವುದು ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗ ಬಂದಾಗಲೇ. ಮಹಿಳೆಯರಿಗೆ ಶೌಚಾಲಯ ಸೌಲಭ್ಯ ಇರುವುದು ಇದೇ ಊರಲ್ಲಾದ್ದರಿಂದ ಶಿವಮೊಗ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಏಳಲೇಬೇಕಿತ್ತು. ತೂಕಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಬಸ್ಸಿಳಿಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದವರಿಗೆ 'ಹತ್ನಿಮ್ಷ ಮಾತ್ರ ನಿಲ್ಸೋದು' ಎಂದು ಕಂಡಕ್ಟರ್ ತಾಕೀತು ಮಾಡುತ್ತಿದ್ದ. ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದ ಯಾವ ಮೂಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶೌಚಾಲಯವಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಲು ವಿಶೇಷ ತ್ರಾಸಾಗುತ್ತಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ. ದೀಪವಿಲ್ಲದ ಮೂಲೆ ಯಾವುದೆಂದು ನೋಡಿ, ಈ ಪೈಕಿ ಯಾವ ಮೂಲೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ದುರ್ನಾತ ಬೀರುತ್ತಿದೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಪತ್ತೆ ಮಾಡಿದರೆ ಶೌಚಾಲಯವೂ ಪತ್ತೆಯಾಗುತ್ತಿತ್ತು! ಮರಳಿ ಬರುವಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಬಸ್ಸಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದಿಷ್ಟು ಹೊಸ ಮುಖಗಳಿರುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. 

ಮತ್ತೆ ಎಚ್ಚರವಾಗುವಷ್ಟರಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗರ ಬಸ್ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ ಬಂದು, ಚುಮುಚುಮು ಬೆಳಕು ಹರಿದಿರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. 'ಶಿಗನ ಹಂಗಾದ್ರೆ, ಬನ್ನಿ ಯಮ್ಮನಿಗೆ' ಎನ್ನುತ್ತಾ ಸಂಚಿ ಎಳೆದುಕೊಂಡು ದಾಪುಗಾಲಿಕ್ಕುವ ನಾಲ್ಕಾರು ಹವ್ಯಕ ಮುಖಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣುತ್ತಿದ್ದಂತೆ ನನ್ನೂರಿನ ಕಂಪು ಬರಲಾರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಅಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಮುಂದೆಲ್ಲಾ ಕೋಳಿ ನಿದ್ದೆ! ಸಿದ್ದಾಪುರದಿಂದ ಶಿರಸಿವರೆಗೆ ಯಾವುದೇ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಸ್ಟಾಪ್ ಇಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೂ, ಹತ್ತಾರು 'ರಿಕ್ವೆಸ್ಟ್ ಸ್ಟಾಪ್' ಇರುತ್ತಿದ್ದವು. ದೇಹದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಅಂಗುಲವು ನೋಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದರೂ, ಕ್ಷಣಕ್ಕೊಮ್ಮೆ ಗಡಿಯಾರ ನೋಡಿಕೊಂಡು ಚಾಲಕನ ಆಮೆಗತಿಯಿಂದಾಗಿ ತಪ್ಪಲಿರುವ ಎಂಟೂವರೆ ಬಸ್ಸನ್ನೆ ನೆನೆಯುತ್ತಾ ಮನಸ್ಸು ವ್ಯಾಕುಲಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಮುಂದಿನ ಬಸ್ಸು/ಟೆಂಪೊ ಎಷ್ಟೊತ್ತಿಗೆ ಎಂಬುದನ್ನು ಲೆಕ್ಕ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಒಂದೊಮ್ಮೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಬಸ್ಸು ನಿಗದಿತ ವೇಳೆಗೆ ಶಿರಸಿ ತಲುಪಿದರೆ, ಮುಂದಿನ ಬಸ್ಸು ತಡವಾಗಿ ಹೊರಡುತ್ತಿತ್ತು. ಅಪ್ಪಿ-ತಪ್ಪಿ ಐದು ನಿಮಿಷ ತಡವಾಗಿ ಶಿರಸಿ ತಲುಪಿದರೆ... ಯಥಾಪ್ರಕಾರ, ಮುಂದಿನ ಬಸ್ಸು ಹೋಗಿಯಾಗಿರುತ್ತಿತ್ತು!

At the first stop we all got our snorkelling gear and jumped into the water . The guide showed us some colourful inhabitants of the reef and a big moral eel. After about fifteen minutes we went on to sail to our next stop ... the sharks. As we arrived and all had their gears on ... everyone stopped ... there was a big grey shark right under our boat ... our guide said that that type of shark is quite harmless, ... but we still all waited until he got into the water first :) .
Later on we saw huge manta rays and even got the opportunity to touch some of the sharks. - Awesome -

On our way back we watched the sun go down accompanied by
nice reggae tunes and rum.

Back on solid island ground, we decided to wonder around town for a bit and than finished this great day with a juicy lobster for dinner.

The village Caulker itself, reflects a lot the lifestyle of the islanders...
The unpaved roads are perfectly suitable for the main mean of transportation ... your own bare feet.
Town government has perfectly placed road signs along every street, although there are no cars on the little island.
The most houses are made out of wood and are colourfully painted and most of the restaurants play reggae music.

On the morning of the second day we went to have some scrambled eggs with lobster for breakfast and decided to take a diving tour with one of the many tour operators along the main street. We chose the sailing trip "Raggamuffin Tours - go slow" offered, that included diving with sharks near the reef, food, drinks and rum on the way back for € 15,- per person.

The boat we got was the "Ragga Gal" and our tour guide a funny black guy that spoke half English and half Kriol (which is actually based on English, but still not understandable :) ). After about 15 minutes of sailing towards the reef the guide said something like "Aay, wiwe wata comiin..." and seemed quite stressed out about that ... we on the other hand had no clue what he was talking about and continued to listen to the tunes of Bob Marley and relaxing on the deck. Suddenly "Ragga Gal" started to sail back to Caulker, the funny black guy did not seem funny anymore and kept repeating the same sentence while he was looking at me. I however started feeling quite confused and was wondering what I have done wrong and what to hell was happening. Well, after someone of the other passengers told me that we are sinking ... I looked down and realized that our boat was half full of water.

We found a nice little "hotel" that rented rooms with a fan, a bed and free, colourful insects and went to find a place to eat. The first restaurant we saw was was "Rasta Pasta" and had a bright yellow sign saying: "No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem", what was the general rule for every place in this town. Unfortunately their kitchen was closed and we had to find another one.

Looking for food we passed by the police station with another quite interesting sign, saying: "Dear visitors, please note that the consumption of any kind of drugs is illegal in Belize. Do not believe anyone who tells you that you can consume drugs at the beaches or on the peer. Possession of illegal substances will be prosecuted by law. Thank you for your understanding, The Local Police"

Finally we found an open restaurant and I decided to have the meal of the day for breakfast - coconut, curry lobster with rice and vegetables. - - Great - -

Finally there we had to wait for a few hours till the sun came up and we could go to the harbour to catch a boat, which would then bring us to one of the islands nearby. We were told that it was not recommendable to walk around town at night, so we decided to wait.

As we were sitting in the waiting hall the guard (who by the way was a big, messy looking, black bloke in the mid forties) came up to me and started talking about his life-philosophy, god and drugs. He as well confirmed to us what we already knew, that Belize is a beautiful country, but that after dark most parts of it became quite rum (Talking to him I realized that not only the country became quite rum after dark here).

At about six we finally left the hall and started walking towards the harbour where we fond a taxi-boat, which would get us to San Pedro - a town on the Ambergris Caye, that is a meeting point for divers and tourists. As we got there we had to realize that San Pedro was indeed quite nice, but did not provide the relaxed and laid back atmosphere we were looking to find in Belize (and it was way too expensive - compared to the rest of the country). Therefore we decided to take the next boat that would get us to Caye Caulker - our final destination after 13 hours of travelling by bus and boat from Cancun.

As everyone can imagine, when going to such exotic countries you should be prepared to get misunderstood (not just because of the language), misinterpreted, mislead, lost, etc. .... and for sure frustrated from time to time!

Anyway, I certainly was and therefore I prepared myself as good as I could, to be ready to avoid any unnecessary problems and hence loss of my precious time and energy (as mentioned before :) ) ..... at least I thought I did.

Once there, all I had to realize that nothing could have really prepared me for this trip and that I could not possibly have thought of every situation I was going to be confronted with ...

... therefore I have decided to write this little blog about everything I have experienced and to make YOUR life (as far as you decide to go and visit one of these countries) a lot easier!
