Younha starts off a little shakily with her notes, but she ends on a perfect note. Tablo and Mithra were perfect as always. I did find it a little boring to watch actually. I have another performance of it which I prefer even though they just stand there and the full song isn't performed. Enjoy!

I wasn't this passionate about blogging (measured by the fact that usually, when I'm not singing in the shower, I'm thinking about TV or food or..."stuff") a while ago, how come so into it now? Well, it was mainly because Dani started to blog frequently and I thought, I should too. After finding Vania's and then having Carmaine start her blog, the "pressure" to keep posting just kept on mounting. I am a posting maniac now!

But that just all led me to the belief that I am a sheep, not a shepherd. I do things because other people do things. Okay, to clear the air, that doesn't mean if everyone starts taking drugs and having unprotected sex, I would too, because they're both the most idiotic thing you can do. But it does make me realize how much of a drone I am.

Would that define me in the future? Would I be another faceless office worker? No I shudder to think that. Even though I was confused as to what I really want to do for a career, I was pretty damn sure I wanted to work for myself. Whether that means freelance work or not - tough profession but summun's gotta do it - I don't know. But I love the thought of my own den, and just working away in an environment I am comfortable in. That's why I can imagine - or would rather imagine - myself living with Dani or Carmaine or any other friend, because they wouldn't be oppressive like my parents.

I'd hate to be a leader though. People have told me that I have leadership qualities. Probably do if I put my mind to it but honestly I am too lazy a person (and frankly, too indifferent to other people) to be a good leader. So no. In a tough spot, I may be able to be relied on to think up ways to salvation/safety/freedom/whatever, but otherwise, no.

Hmm, I was going to include some funny links, which was why the title was 2 irrelevant things but I just thought of another point I want to put out there.

I wrote that in a tough spot I can be relied on, but I meant in things like a large group, say like in Lost how people got...ahem...lost. I can probably keep a level head in those situations. But I am going to be talking about something else.

I want to think that I matter to someone. Not like "you matter, you're my friend" kind of thing. But that I really matter. That someone just can't live without me, and there is no substitute for me. Even if the feeling is temporary, I want it. I guess maybe that's why I want a partner so much. Because they would totally rely on me to be there, just like And- and Dani. I was reading his comments to her on her blog, and I want someone to rely on me and need me the same way Dani needs him.

But okay "melo" moment over.

Second - I traded my Honda for the mother-in-law-in-a-rowboat's SUV to make tonight's "clear out the old house" project more efficient. I start it up today and the gas light chimes on. Wonderful. It's starting to rain and I'm already out of gas. The mother-in-law just commented about putting $90 into it the other day, so I was thrilled with the idea of 1) having to spend $90 of my own cash and 2) driving such a ridiculously inefficient vehicle.

I pull off into a covered gas station. The rain was starting to blow sideways and slantways and slideways and cantways, so I was instantly getting crapped on. Started the pump and jumped back in the truck. Click. What? Can't be full. I spring back into the gale and start the pump again. Click. Hmmm. I spend a few more minutes trying to articulate the nozzle in a way that doesn't trigger the auto shut off...to no avail. When the gas is slurping back up into the gas cap cavity and running onto the ground, I believe it is full. Three dollars of fullness. And a broken gas gauge.

I finally get into the office only to suffer multiple people saying, "Hey Michael, it's called an umbrella." Next person to say that will be punched in the neck.

Wednesday retread: This was written in 2005, back when I lived in Jersey. Today's gas story reminded me of it.

8.25.2005 - It's with a frightening regularity that my wife accuses me of being evil: being able to boil holy water, angering god, no heart, etc. It has caused me to be more cognizant of situations where I might be fitting this accusation all too well.
This morning, at the Mobil on the Parkway (have to fill up today, prices change on Fridays), I'm parked next to a passenger van. The driver is wearing a yarmulke. So is the passenger. So are all the passengers. A few in the window were reading what I can only assume to be the Torah, since I don't read hebrew up close, let alone from fifteen feet. They might have been reading erotic bondage stories written in hebrew for all I know; I'm just the goyem. Regardless, it was something solemn.
Where does this involve me? Seeing these people using their commute time to read, pray, and reflect made me take a look at myself. After all, the driver and a few others were looking at me. I had the windows open, eating my frosted strawberry pop-tarts (now with more heathen), sunglasses on, shirt wrinkled and untucked, and the stereo pumping out Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" at 7:45 in the morning. I'm a grade-A cultural ambassador. Does anyone know the hebrew word for godless sinner? Hey, if the cloven hoof fits...

*I have never tried cocaine, nor do I endorse the psychotic lifestyle that goes with it.

前幾天在聽豆子所主持的「midnight you and me」，他播放了一個很民歌鄉村味的女生唱歌，後來聽聽發現，這不就是我們的小雨傘嗎，後來在網路上瀏覽一下，發現原來是一位叫做MarieDigby的女歌手，他因為在youtube上面靠著一把木吉他翻唱了umbrella而一夕成名，唱片公司也幫他發了唱片，還真是厲害阿。

不過當然兩個人的風味不同，Rihanna的就很適合大場合來放，帶動氣氛到最高點，讓全身搖擺起來，而MarieDigby的就是那種可以在街頭聽到她的音樂，大家可以輕輕的、慵懶的聽，有那種在躺在草地上的感覺，不知道會比較喜歡哪種?

The rain wasn’t the only reason why some people had to use umbrellas yesterday.

STOMPer Christina was on a bus yesterday (24 Aug) when she came across something rather amusing.

In an email to STOMP, the STOMPer says:

“Air con is leaking badly in bus so these passengers have to open their umbrellas.”

Very amusing?? These probably FT PDMM aunties think they very clever right. Finding themselves seated in leaking first world transport bus, decided to utilise their umbrella as "shields".

Genius you say? Silent protest you say? Freaking selfish rather. So if the water does NOT drip onto their heads, but onto their umbrella... Where does the water go next?

Onto the other passengers in the seats in front / behind. F.R.E.A.K.I.N.G selfish, brainless auntie. So you don't get wet, but you don't care if others get wet? Golden ass, can't change seats? Not to mention the, oh so small, umbrella blocking the view of the bus route.

Brillant.

When I was putting together this video for Newsong, I saw how powerful this group was. A small group of taggers wanting to feed the homeless turned into a movement that spread throughout the world. There is no leader, members are anonymous, and there isn't a central group. Each location has there own style, organization, identity, myspace page, etc... but they all sit under the same "Umbrella". (Yes, the Rihanna song is playing in my head)

This "Umbrella" is The Burrito Project's Cause: To feed the homeless. Art United's "Umbrella" right now is Human Trafficking.

I really feel that UA has to be like the Burrito Project. UA has to be the Starfish, rather than the Spider. There is power in a leaderless organization. I'm hoping my brother in Washington, D.C can start a group. Maybe he'll follow the model I'm using or maybe he has a different model that works better on the East Coast. Each group will naturally have it's own unique flavor based on the region it is located.

One reason why I use Word Press, Facebook, Basecamp and other free software is that UA needs to be easily replicated. That's what is going to keep it sustainable. I urge those of you, who have this tugging inside, to really take the first step and take action. It will change your life.

It's a good thing I entertain myself because the Chinese don't get me.

It was pouring rain this morning when I left to go to the gym.  I was too lazy to hike back upstairs for an umbrella. (Ironic since I was going to the gym to run in place.)

 So, I asked the concierge if I could borrow an umbrella.  

"Of course," he replied.  "How long will you need it?"

"Um, I'll need it as long as it keeps raining." 

We were sympatico until this point.  And then he says, "how long do you think that might be?"

I'm a lot of things but Nostradamus is not one of them.

As I pondered what to say next, I noticed the concierge had taken out his umbrella borrowing/ weather guessing book. Clearly I was on the record with whatever answer I gave next.

"I think I'll need it for 47 minutes."

Okay, he said as he scribbled my name and rain protection needs.

"Actually," I said glancing out the window, "make that 10 hours."  

The concierge scratched out 47 minutes, replaced it with 10 hours, handed me an umbrella and told me to stay dry.

It's now 13 hours later.  The rain stopped hours ago.  And, I have yet to return the umbrella. I'm sure the concierge will find something to write about me in his book.

Shall carry on with the great mapping exercise for the graduate attributes... fiddly task involving spreadsheets and four different colours and patterns (for those viewing in black and white, just like the snooker in the early '80s). Meeting with a colleague later to chat more about our input into the PGCHET course. We were supposed to have half an hour each but as usual I've totally over-written and crammed my bit so it could last about 45 minutes.
