On your desktop you can highlight some text and send it to evernote.  In a web page or email you can do the same.  You can take a screen grab and send the image to evernote.  OK - not bad but the best is yet to come.

You can do the same on your mobile and the 'notes' are synchronised.  OK -Cool- but wait

All the notes are searchable (as you might expect) BUT - images are scanned for text so you can take a photo of a product in a shop for example, send the image to evernote and the text in the image is searchable.  OR Kids could photograph the whiteboard and search their notes collection for just the right one. Now that's nice.

Oh yes ... it's free.

Lately, I've spending a lot of time browsing on the web and I just discovered this really cool website. The website is: http://improveverywhere.com. I'm pretty sure a lot of you guys heard about this crew, but I still feel like sharing my joy of discovering what they do to make this world a bit more fun and awkward. Here's a description of what they do (taken from their About Us Page)

Je kan nog tot 20u16  vanavond firefox downloaden om het record te zetten. Ze zitten nu al over de 7 miljoen exemplaren. In België hebben een kleine 50000 mensen firefox 3 gedownload.  Ik heb het ook al geïnstalleerd maar ik merk tot nu toe weinig veranderingen. Ik ben bezig geweest aan mijn thesis dus had ik niet echt tijd om ermee te prullen. De nieuwigheden vind je hier.

Edit: Mijn gegevens waren volledig fout. Mijn broer heeft betere cijfers gevonden voor het internetverkeer.Petabyte aan gegevens verstuurd over het internet over de hele wereld. Of zo'n 220 PB per dag, een factor 4000 verschil met mijn berekeningen van 50 TB per dag. Blijkbaar was er in 2007 per maand 6577

Ik vraag mij af of de downloaddag invloed gaat hebben op de snelheid van het internet. Ik dacht gisterenavond dat het extreem traag en instabiel was. Aangezien het in sommige landen reeds 17 juni was dacht ik dat download day misschien de oorzaak was. Maar omdat het start in GMT-8 zou dat normaal niet mogen. Maar als je de 17e overdag problemen hebt zou het misschien wel door firefox 3 kunnen komen. Ze mikken op minstens 3 miljoen downloads. Er hebben reeds 1,3 miljoen mensen toegezegd dat ze firefox ook effectief zullen downloaden. Firefox 2 is 5,5 MB groot, als Firefox 3 even groot is wordt dat 3 miljoen * 5 MB -> 15 miljoen MB of zo'n 15000 GigaByte als ik goed gerekend heb. De enige cijfers van het verkeer op internet die ik vond zijn deze. In 2002 was er in de verenigde staten tussen de 80000 en 140000 Terabyte verkeer in de maand december. Of minstens 2,5 TB per dag. Verwacht wordt dat dit elk jaar verdubbeld. Dan zouden we nu aan 50 TB per dag zitten voor Amerika. De 15 TB die firefox 3 zou teweeg brengen zou dus misschien wel een lichte impact kunnen hebben, het is toch zo'n 1/3e extra. (Ik vond wel geen recentere cijfers dan van 2002 en ik ken niet zoveel van de structuur van het internet. Je moet dus alles met een vaatje zout nemen, en verbeteren mag indien je betere info hebt.)

Home is a Holy Place

The Roman Catholic Church has just published Home is a Holy Place - a resource pack to help families, schools and parishes think through what it means for home to be holy. A DVD offers interviews with a wide range of families (though very none of the children are asked what they think) and reflections on how God's love can be seen and lived in everyday life.

What Dads Add

Coinciding with Fathers' Day this Sunday, the Mothers' Union, Church of England and FLAME have combined to produce a simple, credit-card sized leaflet to give to dads at baptisms. It recognises the importance of a father's role in their child's life, and offers a simple prayer that dads could pray for their children and themselves. Copies of What Dads Add are available from The Mothers' Union at £1 for 20.

CORE Skills Conference

There are still some places available for the CORE Skills Conference 5 - 7th September. Held at Nottingham University, it will be an excellent weekend with opportunities to explore some of the new CORE Skills modules on Transitions, Special Needs and Young Leaders as well as brushing up on the basic skills needed for working with children. Thanks to grants from the Westhill Trust and St Christopher's Trust, bursaries of £75 are available if finance might prove a problem.

Groen! heeft gisterenmiddag een tijdlang een braakliggend terrein in Anderlecht, in de buurt van het Brusselse Zuidstation, gekraakt en omgetoverd tot een speelruimte voor kinderen. Met de actie wil Groen! de teloorgang van de open speelruimte voor kinderen aanklagen. De partij roept lokale afdelingen op om overal in Vlaanderen braakliggende terreinen te kraken en om te vormen tot speelplekken.

Speelterrein
Rond 15 uur gisterenmiddag kraakten enkele leden van Groen!, onder wie voorzitster Mieke Vogels en senator Freya Piryns, een omheind terrein op de hoek Gheudestraat en de Brogniezstraat in Anderlecht. Met enkele eenvoudige ingrepen (bv. een volleybalnet, paaltjes om voetbaldoelen te maken) werd het terrein omgevormd tot een speelterrein dat binnen het half uur 20 tot 30 kinderen aantrok.

De kraakactie, die ondersteund werd door jeugdauteur Marc de Bel, kadert in het partijbrede project dat Groen! rond kinderen (Meer ruimte voor kinderen).

Guerilla's
Ondanks alle plannen gaat de beschikbare ruimte voor kinderen en jongeren er volgens Groen! stelselmatig op achteruit. Om die evolutie aan de kaak te stellen, roept Groen! op tot het kraken van verwaarloosde ruimten en braakliggende of leegstaande terreinen. Doel is om die terreinen dan een tijdlang om te toveren tot speelterreinen. "Als guerrilla's, om de laatste wilde plekken te behouden en meer bespeelbaar te houden", zegt partijvoorzitter Mieke Vogels.

Groen! vraagt nu dat haar lokale groepen stukjes grond kraken en als speelplek inrichten. Het kan dan bijvoorbeeld gaan om braakliggende terreinen waar al jaren niets mee gebeurt of plekken waar kinderen tot voor kort wel nog konden, maar nu niet meer kunnen spelen. Beelden van de "kraak" worden op de website www.kraakjeplek.be geplaatst.

200 meter
Lokale mandatarissen en parlementairen van Groen! zullen ook een aantal aandachtspunten voor kinderen naar voor schuiven. De partij wil onder meer dat er op 200 meter stappen voor elk kind een speelplek komt. Uit bevragingen blijkt dat in een aantal steden meer dan de helft van de bewoners meer dan 400 meter moet stappen om een plek te vinden waar hun kinderen buiten moeten spelen. De groenen dringen er op aan dat 3 procent van de ruimte in woongebieden naar speelruimte voor kinderen gaat.

Groen! wil ook dat speelplaatsen van scholen tijdens vakantiedagen opengesteld worden voor kinderen uit de buurt, maar daarvoor is nu vaak nog een probleem met verzekeringen. Straten met een zone 30 moeten geleidelijk omgevormd worden tot woonerven met auto's op buurtparkings, zoals in vakantieparken. (belga/sps)
