I've also been taking some time to enjoy writing again. I've been devouring all the decent Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys fic I can get my hands on, trying to feed the muses. I've written up to chapter three in my own story...before stalling out. I've got a few snippets I'll be able to weave in, scenes from later in the story, but I'm at the point where I really need to let the boys detail the mystery to Nan and George. Trying to sort all the ins and outs makes my brain hurt! On Tuesday, I started something of a background story -- one that takes place a couple of years before the current one, and loosely ties in. It's fluff, but it serves as a distraction while I percolate a bit on the mystery in the other.

The other plot!bunny currently dashing across my brain -- shiny! -- is based off Zorro...the 1990s, Family Channel version. Total cheese, I know, but it was one of my favorite brainless shows in college. In 2006, I started writing a fic for the series where Don Diego and Don Alejandro head to Santa Barbara and stumble on a mystery of their own involving the de la Vega lawyer. I managed to write five chapters, three of which made it to fanfiction.net. The other two were on my hard drive, still being edited, when my hard drive crashed. For a time, I think it killed the story. I picked up the threads last night and started tinkering with the characters again.

I don't know why I keep coming back to this story, to this series. Strangely, I think it's because, in my mind, Duncan Regehr makes a better Zorro than Antonio Banderas. Part of that is the story line -- I prefer the idea that Don Diego is the blood-born son of Don Alejandro, and that Don Diego is Zorro, not Don Alejandro. Because the movie diverged quite a bit from that story, I found I didn't like it as much. And then there's the UST between Diego and his love interest in the show, Victoria Escalante. Despite the cheesiness of the series, Patrice Camhi as Victoria and Regehr as Zorro had some really brilliant chemistry, something I never really got watching Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The show ended in the middle of the 4th season, with Diego about to tell his father of Zorro; I was waiting anxiously to see what happened to he and Victoria. It was a story that was never resolved. Maybe that's why I keep coming back -- to try and write a happy ending, or at least a happy continuation, for Diego and Victoria.

Regardless of my reasoning, it's certainly nice to be writing again. I'm hoping that my trip home this weekend will provide more fodder... or at least opportunity. On the other hand, I'll be shopping. Who can think of writing when there's good shopping to be had? =)

Protestarán en Roma ante las Tiendas Armani. Anuncia PETA que mañana realizarán la manifestación. Al parecer las tiendas han utilizado en su última colección pieles de animales. El vicepresidente de la organización de protección de animales PETA, Dan Mathews, anunció hoy que mañana protestarán públicamente ante las tiendas del diseñador italiano Giorgio Armani en Milán (norte de Italia) por haber utilizado prendas con pieles de animales en su última colección.
Mathews, que se encontraba en Roma para la presentación de su autobiografía ‘Committed', afirmó que Armani "no ha cumplido su palabra", ya que había asegurado que no usaría nunca más pieles en sus colecciones.
La colección de Armani para otoño-invierno presenta "chaquetas y faldas decoradas con pieles de conejo y zorro e incluso trajes de nieve para niños forrados con piel de animales", lamentó el vicepresidente de Personas por la Ética en el Trato de los Animales (PETA).
Para protestar contra este cambio de idea, los activistas de PETA se reunirán mañana ante la tienda Emporio Armani, la firma de moda joven de la casa, con carteles en los que se ve al diseñador vestido como el muñeco Pinocho.
También en Milán, el colectivo de defensa de los animales presentará un documental presentado por la actriz Gillian Anderson, conocida por su papel en la serie de televisión X Files (Expediente X), sobre los criaderos de conejos en Francia y China, "donde Armani se provee de las pieles".

Proceedings today ended at about 4pm after Chandra informed the court that he would need some time to prepare for further cross-examination of Harme on the technical aspects of this witness's testimony relating to the workings of the internet.

Judge was displeased with the prosecution's late disclosure of documents to the defence and secured the confirmation of the prosecution that all documents intended for use at the trial have been disclosed.

Upon inquiry by the court, the prosecution confirmed that they would be marshalling up 6 witnesses.

The hearing resumes tomorrow at 9am.

What? Government (it's not really people, is it??) vs Raja Petra Kamaruddin... Sedition trial.

Where? PJ Sessions court, 9am, 06Oct08.... it is scheduled for 3-4 days... unless there's a posponent (likely)or withdrawal (unlikely)

It was a !!!PEOPLE POWER!!! morning.... delCapo counted more than 100 people showed up... mostly in "FREE RPK" Tshirts....

 BlogBros were there in force.... Zorro & Haris (of coz) + Queenie, Shanghai Fish, CrankShaft, Nat, Fisherman Gus, CikguBard, the Whisperer, Nanda, Angela, Tengku Vic... & a few delCapo has yet to recognise (excuse my ignorance... pls let me know who i missed out)....

PR leaders were spotted too! - YB Lim Kit Siang, YB Ronnie Liu, "should have been" YB CikguBard...

Local & Foreign press (from Australia's ABC & France)....

As the trial got on the way.... the proscecution, who was scheduled to have 3 witnesses, only brought 1... a "Harme Mohamed, the deputy director, international affairs, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission"... to be their expert witness on IT & website...... just as well.... the proceedings were slow & fucken boring.... whether on purpose by the proscecution ot just their modus operandi... i dunno.

The moment we sar RPK emerged from the van, the first thoughts were "damn... he has lost so much weight & looks tired"... a few even shed tears at the sight of our hero! Can u imagine how Marina & their children felt????..... goddamit!!!!

10.15 am... Awaken #1, phone call.... BlogBro Fisherman Gus on the blower.... we are on d road now (from Sungei Perak R&R).... see u soon.

10.40 am... Awaken #2, Jeff Buckley remixed with sudden increase in traffic..... the Penangites have arrived.... delCapo counted at least 30 cars in the convoy... some waving Malaysian flags.... delCapo waved back his own flag.... Penangnites convoy moved off soon after...

10.51 am... Awaken #3, loud knock on the car door !... dammit! 3 smiling abang Polis.... relay of questions: "Encik dari mana"....  "Nak pi mana?"  "buat apa" "tunggu siapa??" (I tot the "I'm with RPK" T-shirt + "I walk with MT" Sticker + a camera on the passenger seat made it quite obvious)... the real reason why they knocked was..... i'd better not give details on here, sori folks =]

11.08am... Wide Awake.... BlogBros convoy have arrived.... off we went to Kamunting!!

11.25am... Arrivi del "TEMPAT TAHANAN PERLINDUNGAN TAIPING".... A sizable crowd has gathered in front with banners & DAP flags.... many "Anti ISA" & "Free RPK" t-shirts spotted.... more abang polis around in various uniform types.... directing traffic or just on relaxed standby.... It is Taiping after all....

We were told the Polis had allowed the crowd 30 minutes to do our thing..... however no one in the crowd could visit RPK, nor can ANY raya food be given to him. NONE!!.....  Some of the poor well wishers brought homemade kuih kuih & stuffs..... sigh!

Good to see madam Marina & 2 daughters among the crowd..... all 3 looked strained (a couple of tears spotted every now & then) but put up brave faces to receive the well-wishers' gifts, flowers, cards, kisses & hand shakes.... taking photos with them.... delCapo cannot bear to watch them for long..... they miss RPK! Goddam ISA is breaking their hearts!! fucken shit...

 On a lighter side of things....  guess who has a strong fan base from Penang?? Celebrity Zorro !! Other than madam Marina & daughters.... he had the most handshakes/ greetings/ photo requests from the crowd.

Well done, sir!! and yes... delCapo promises to behave =]

Manggagaling naman si Mark sa magtatapos sa susunod na linggo na romantic-comedy series na Ako si Kim Samsoon ka-partner si Regine Velasquez.

Ang Luna Mystica ang papalit sa Codename: Asero kapag nagtapos ito.

Si Richard naman, nagsisimula nang mag-aral ng fencing dahil ang kanyang susunod na primetime series sa GMA-7 ay Zorro, ang fictional Mexican character na isinulat ni Johnston McCulley noong 1919.

I should mention I have a collection of supposedly haunted objects from my days of actively investigating paranormal activity, which I retired from doing long before I met Cheryl. I used to keep them in a storage unit several miles from our home. Now, with gas prices being what they are, I keep them in another storage unit closer to home - our basement. Thank goodness Cheryl is so understanding - and patient! That's one of the reasons I love her so much. 

I'm bringing this up for a reason I'll tell you in a moment. But, in case your wondering, most of the activity in our home began before I moved those things in. 

Last night Cheryl was cooking dinner (she's an awesome cook, another reason I love her so much) and I was thinking about one of the objects I have, a skull. The skull has a skull has a supposedly rich history to it. It suddenly hit me last night that one of the apparitions we've been seeing, "Zorro," may be due to the skull. I asked Cheryl to describe what she saw the night she saw this particular apparition (I wrote about this incident in a previous post)  and she took a moment to draw a picture of it. This, coupled with what I  saw a few nights later (I also wrote about this) convinced me I was right about my hunch. 

Almost as if to confirm it, a few minutes later we both heard a sound. I was in the family room and she was in the kitchen. Keep in mind (if you've read earlier posts describing our home) that one of the things we love about our home is that it's not chopped up, but open. So I could see her, and she could see me, and I could see the dining room and the formal living room. 

I was trying to think about how to describe the sound, so I just asked Cheryl what she thought, and we both agreed to refer to it as a cry. A distressed cry. A single distressed cry. 

I was reading a book when it happened. We had the television on. Cheryl was still in the kitchen. When I heard it, I looked over toward the dining room and living room. Since at one point Cheryl was causing a lot of smoke to happen, we had many of the windows open and the front door open as well. Since Cheryl didn't say anything, I decided not to say anything. After all, we have a lot of wild animals in the area where we live, and I thought it was a coyote, or a fox, crying out. I'm kind of a city boy, and Cheryl grew up hearing these sounds, so if she thought nothing of it….

Then I heard the same sound a second time. Cheryl was bent down reaching for something to cook with when she heard it for the second time as well. She turned and looked at me. My first thought was that it might be our cat, Albert, crying. I looked over at where she usually sleeps, and there she was still sleeping.

"Did you hear that?" I asked her, getting up and walking to the front door. 

"Yes, what was it?" Cheryl asked following me. By the time she caught up with me, I was already at the front door looking outside to see if anyone was hurt. Then I went to the window next to our dining table, looked out, and still didn't see or hear anything anything. 

"I thought it sounded like a baby crying," I told her. 

"I heard crying, but it didn't sound like a baby to me," Cheryl said looking worried. I don't know if her worry was due to the sound we heard, or that I jumped up and was rushing around the way I was. "I thought it came from the television." Okay, she was freaked at me rushing around. 

"No, it wasn't the tv, the sound came from out here, both times," I told her. "Could it have been a coyote? Or a fox?" I asked my resident expert on wildlife sounds. 

"No, it wasn't a wild animal. Like I said, I thought it was something on the show you're watching." 

I had "Most Haunted" on, a television show originating in Britain. If you've every watched that show you know that they women, and even the men, on the show scream a lot. That was not what I heard. Cheryl also agreed it was not screams, but two cries we heard. 

A few minutes later I heard what sound like boxes being tossed around the in the walk in closet. The same sounds I hear when Cheryl is looking for something on the shelves that hold her perfumes, and whatever the hell else she keeps in there. Cheryl wasn't in the closet at the time though; she was in the kitchen looking over at the wall that separates the closet from the family room. It was that loud. This is such a usual occurrence though, that even though I thought about checking it out, I stayed right where I was on the sofa. Especially, after hearing the two cries. 

After dinner Cheryl and I were eating the key lime pie she made for dessert and talking about the cries we heard. "It's the same sounds I heard a few nights ago (three to be exact) when we were in bed, and I asked you if you heard them too. You said, 'no,' you couldn't hear them."*

"That reminds me," she continued, "I don't know what you were doing, but you weren't here (in the family room) so I couldn't tell you about it when it happened. I was standing at the oven when I saw a movement out of the corner of my eye. I looked over at the door (our sliding glass door) and I could see the "shadow" of a man."

"Was he standing in front of the door?" I asked, pointing at the glass door. 

"Yes," she said. Cheryl got up and walked over to the stove. "I was standing here, and I saw something so I looked over like this." Cheryl looked over to her right. I saw this shadow standing there." Suddenly her eyes got wide. "Something just hit me. I just realized where he was standing." 

Cheryl moved over to the pantry door three feet away from where she was originally standing. "His shadow was blocking out the pantry door. He was standing here, like this, in front of this door. He wasn't standing next to the slider, he was standing next to me!"  

*Actually, I had heard the same cry before. When I had a psychic do a reading on the skull. I was recording the reading, and when I was listening to the recording later, I heard several distressed cries. It was the same sound we heard last night. I didn't tell Cheryl this, and I didn't have the heart to tell Cheryl I believe that "Zorro" is connected to the skull. If you're a friend of ours and you're reading this, I really would appreciate it if you don't mention it either!
